    Guthrie Govan is like Paganini. Not many knew who he was until he was well into his career. Now he is gaining the widespread attention he always deserved and is obviously one of the finest players alive. A level above the previous iteration of megavirtuoso talent

    Having the Aristocrats as your jam band can only be a great thing. Each of the guitarists who remained on the stage are supremely gifted in their own right. Mike and Tosin are mutants, Guthrie is in another league all together and Joe, is Joe. It started looking like a free for all, once Joe bailed though.

    Guthrie is the best technical player to ever live, seriously. I had no idea he's the 2nd best slide player too after Trucks. Wth, this guy is just on another level of talent. Endless practice and playing isn't enough to allow one to master literally every technique known to guitar. Guthrie is the only player I've ever heard of who apparently has mastered them all

    @James that's your opinion man, cmon don't go stating that as it it's fact. I think Guthrie's songs are far better than Satch's. There's no right or wrong answer here, you can only objectively discuss technical ability. Ask another person and they'll tell you neither Guthrie or Satch compare to One Direction in terms of songwriting.

    It's never a good conversation to say someone is better than the other one. But I do find guthrie more appealing and I think he is better than most legendary guitarists both in song righting and technical aspect. But obviously satriani is a legend too. But still listen more guthrie solos , both his own band and with others like Hans Zimmer and Steven wilson etc.

    Guthrie is definitely in a class of his own. In my opinion his strongest characteristic that sets him apart from others is his incredible fluidity with improvising. But he does have a great deal of techniques at his disposal as well. There's certainly techniques that others may surpass him in a sense, but overall he is an incredibly versatile player. In otherwords, there are definitely players who are ahead of him with a particular technique, but the when considering the sheer versatility of his playing it's not often matched. Btw, Sonny Landreth is an incredibly skilled slide player. I find his playing better than that of Trucks. But that's just me an my opinion. Check him out if you haven't heard of him. ✌️

    Just to take a look at two guitarists on stage (Marco on drums and Bryan on bass, fantastic as always): Satriani is good, but his playing mostly follows well-known paths. Guthrie always finds a way to combine classic blues playing with appropriate innovative ideas. And come on, listen to his slide solo again (7:15)!

  • @robinwatson4282

    @robinwatson4282

    Yeah, Satriani is completely outclassed here. Guthrie is untouchable - he just feels everything going on around him and taps into it like a champ. Meanwhile, JS hides behind his shades. Yeah, nice one, Joe; like, you're really connecting with everyone - not! Just doing your own 'cool' thing. You've heard of Joe Pass? Well, here we have Joe Fail.

Definitely wouldn’t be apt to play bebop and confirms most new players can’t swing instead go for the dissonant patterns that do sound amazing percussively but not musical in a melodic sense! The guy he gave it too was awful. Tosin is out of his element. Mike sounds like that dude struggling at local blues jams. Again, Guthrie is on a different frequency than all these guys.
