@@vikramshetty271 This is just a blatant falsity. Not only could Guthrie play anything Buckethead has ever written, but so could Paul Gilbert. Paul taught buckethead and if you REALLY listen, Buckethead's shreds are just a mashup of the same ole Gilbert lick moved around the fretboard. When I was a teenager and first learning guitar, I was a Buckethead superfan as well. That was up until I had my horizons expanded.

JP for me is the best composer, for my taste. But Govan is the best performer and have the biggest pallette of sounds. Is immense the quantity of sounds he can produce. But in studio JP has a composer is the ultimate machine, but nowadays he is just a remixer of himselve. In the old times with Ibanez petrucci was more out of the box and more complex in the creation process. I believe that the instrument is always a limitation. That music man must be supreme but the sound is always the same, with Ibanez petrucci had more bite and with that comes other ways of producing sound that fits the personality of the instrument too. The supreme quality of petrucci sound comes to a place where it is over processed (not that is over processed, but is the type of sound that my ears recognize has processed/studio quality). Seeking perfection isn't always the place where you want to be, the limitations is what gives the guitar the sound of a guitar, if you know what i mean. Anyways, just my opinion, not the truth, there is no thing like "the truth". If you read this John, this is not a bad critic just me recognizing your process of evolution and of seeking your dream sound, that's what makes you and the epic sounds you have produced your whole live. It is what makes your constructions has an artist.

An interesting take indeed. However, when it comes to production and playing, Petrucci is much better now (seems like he polished his upward picking since the Six Dregrees days). I agree that DT sounds similar nowadays, and I wish it was more different, but that's expected considering they have +15 albums. Liquid Tension Experiment and JP's solo project, though, are completely unique and shows how versatile John truly is. Highly recommend those two last albums. Govan is an inspiration. No way to put it. Although he's not as strong as a composer/songwriter, his energy on improv is pretty cool. If he worked his structure and licks even more, he would be unstoppable!

A shout out to the amazing drummer who really enhances where the lead player is at and where he's going. Everyone here is such a talented and tasty player. Guthrie's improvisation skills are clearly way ahead of everyone elses. I wish he was able to compose more metal band type songs as a side project. I wonder if he could generalize his lead skills to hard rock or metal type songs with a singer?
