YZF R125 VS CBR 125 - WHICH IS QUICKER?

Now, before anyone starts getting touchy, I know full well that I was sat up and not tucked in. But neither was the guy on the CBR, so I thought I'd look like a complete fruit if I was tucked in and he wasn't. Plus, it just goes to show that the CBR is quicker because I was using the bikes full power, whereas the CBR guy was riding one handed, without a care in the world. Lets face it, the CBR is quicker than my Yamaha, but in all honesty I would take the better looking and slightly slower 125 machine any day! :)

the CBR 125r has come a long way from its jc34 days. those things had carbs (07 onward fuel injection) and back then the yzf was the faster bike in stock conditions. its nice to see the tide has shifted with the jc50. i love riding my friends 2014 one. its so smooth and on a windy day with slight uphill it can manage 120kmh easy on a highway, where as my 2006 strugles to keep 100. the only bad thing i think is that the sound aint nearly as sweet if u only throw a slipon on it vs my bolton which sounds like a full exhaust. the slipon of the jc50 sounds pretty stock and heats a ton. I didn't catch what year the cbr was, you will find some pre 07 carb model bikes are not as restricted as the fuel injected bikes, ive got an 02 Honda varadero 125 with a twin carb, just a few mods to make it a bit more responsive, I up jetted it put a leo vince exhaust system on it, made the air intake a bit bigger to compensate for the exhaust so it breaths better and some iridium plugs, its made a little difference, the varadero is most probably the heaviest 125 out there, its 169 kg wet which is only 15kg lighter than an mt-750, so even with the extra torque you get from the v-twin engine it's sluggish on acceleration but from 45-70 it will reel in most 125,s because that's where all the torque is and it tops out at 76mph, so your bike will out accelerate it but mine will start fighting back at around 45 til it tops out, but other bikes like the ybr 125 it will just eat them like yours will lol,

I'm just gonna chip in and say this. If you're looking for something that you want to for speed go for the "faster" 125s (CBR, YZF, MT125. Basically ones that are the full 11kw) or if you're like me and commute on one go for the CBF 125 or the YBF 125 as they're very efficient on fuel. I can't tell you from me using a cbf that I can get 250 miles on £6, £7 (depending on how fast you're going)

Could also be the weather that affected the bikes performance on that day! When I'm on my Varadero 125 (V-twin) I can be riding it and pin it in 5th and it won't go anywhere! However when I ride at night it seems to feel like a 250/300 in comparison to torque! Also depends how the bike has been run in and maintained which can have an effect on performance :/

Might just be how the engine was manufactured. You will probably find your bike runs better in colder weather when the air is thicker so the air/fuel is near perfect. Good riding checking ya observations for a learner got to say that's first thing I noticed. I had full licence a while now but borrowed 06 cbr 125 last year when my bandit was in for service. And got to say cbr is cracking people say it's to small and yzf looks bigger. When you think about it.... it's a 125 surely u want a smaller object to travel on it will shift faster. My littke bandit 400 I own as my little toy jeeze it flys only 60bhp but cause of its size. It just bolts. Doesn't make much difference when you move onto 600cc+ but yeah 125cc bikes tye smaller the better less wind on ya. Personally.... I'm a suzuki man always will be but..... cbr or yzf...... cbr 4tw. Sorry yamaha bikers. Much more value for money.

I can tell you first hand that the yzf is definitely faster than the cbr me and my mate both weigh roughly the same he had a cbr and i had a yzf and every time we were out he would be tucked down in 6th gear going as fast as the bike would and i would cruise past him sitting up only in 5th gear so you are right it might have something to do with your size but good vid mate big fan of the yzf myself iv just brought a new 1:)

Go get yourself a proper 125 could get so much more for the money if you had a clue about bikes you would go two stroke my mint condition Honda nsr 125 cost £1600 and will pull off quicker and then keep going up to 90mph. That's probably the worst race I've ever seen.

  • @ryansliferiding

Well I can happily say that my Yamaha has done almost 16,000 miles, had no problems, still using the same chain that came with the bike when I bought it brand new, and most of all, it's reliable. Let's have a race to somewhere 1,000 miles away, and I bet you I win. P.S, It's not all about speed. Have a wonderful day :)
