I'm at Hatfield/McCoy right now with a '21 yxz. Same issue. Throttle hung at 8k rpm. It pushed through the brakes and I had to kill the ignition to stop it. Scared the shit out of me. Started it back up, still hung at 8k, killed the ignition. Flicked the throttle pedal a couple times with my foot, started back up and it idled. The rest of the day it hung around 2-3k, which gave me that "Cruise control" you mentioned. If I flicked the pedal it would go back to idle. FRUSTRATING. I just tripped 700 miles on the unit, never had an issue till today. I would take it back to the dealer to warranty the issue but who knows when I'll get my yxz back. Impressive as always. I would be screwed as I wouldn’t attempt that. Some large all terrain vehicle company needs to hire you to sort their shit out. This continues to remind me how much betteR Honda is With the stuff the average consumer can’t and won’t see, compared to the rest of the pack. And I own a Rubicon and a Viking. Just changing engine oil and diff fluids between the two machines you can quickly see how better thought out Honda’s are.

One of the very first mods you should do is the six spring pressure plate. It's amazing how much it helps with the extra clamping force. Both alba and Barnett offer this part.

This is probably the reason motorcycle throttles always came with closing cable also. Sticking throttle with motorcycle power is just deadly.

Throttle cables this day in age is stupid. My viking got stuck wide open at 60 mph because the 90 elbow by the pedal broke and pinched the cable in it.

Nice video! About how long did it take you to do all of that? My 23 with 150hrs just started doing this shit. And debating on having the dealer do it. But also don't want to wait weeks to a month for it to be done by them

Damn, and I thought yamaha like Honda was among the most reputable. But I suppose u can't blame that on the components themselves but the incompetent dipshit that assembled it. Massive props for undertaking all that, I myself would have attempted that but I wouldn't have gone as far as you did. Kick ass on the fix!

The yxz is a low production quantity vehicle they don't really give a shit about it I'm surprised they even still make it. They're focused on selling the user friendly beer cruisers like everyone else

That would stand to reason since there marine outboards and jetskis are phenomenal compared to there competitors. Im curious to your direction with it, whether this has built up any apathy for this project or if your gonna put more bald eagles into that motor or lift it and slap bigger wheels n tires. 🤔 I'll be watching and good luck.

mikuni makes those throttle bodies so thats possibly a mikuni factory issue rather than yamaha

Good work man! why is it everything for sale is such a pile of crap anymore? at least your smart enough to figure stuff out. otherwise youd be going back and forth to a yamaha dealer likely multiple times.

Calling people idiots on the forums is that unwarranted and unrealistic. The way you beat your machine it's not uncommon to have challenges. Some folks on the forums have good technical answers others just have opinions, just like yourself you have to take better care of the equipment to be less critical of your brothers
