Good morning. 48 years cancer survivor of my 69 years. I am planning my exit by the end of 2024. Looking forward to living in my 70's and beyond in joy and peace.

Sorry you had to live through that experience. Stories like yours is part of what steered me away from pursuing a MFA program. BUT! I hope you find your way back to the page. Nothing like it.

The kidneys can regenerate. I do shiatsu and I have a client whose #'s of kidney function improved when she received shiatsu (acupuncture points done in massage, regularly.) Acupuncture can also help based on same principals. Some residencies also are for whatever work you are doing...they don't all need you to do work or present....Usually the major difference is taht residences- require you to BE in a certain place- often a retreat type setting, that is the difference between grants n residences.

Love this conversation and love the work Stephanie does to share a diversity of stories of Black women living free. One small, but vital perspective to share on the spiritual pieces of the convo. Black women, please be careful about how you open yourself to various spiritual practices- Do your own proper research on what is appropriate for YOU. As a Nigerian American woman, I have seen a lot of people (in the Americas especially) engage with some practices that are presented as our heritage without enough experiential, critical, and empirical insights to discern when things are actually healing or providing a portal for spiritual dis-ease that you are not properly equipped to handle. Demonic possession is a real thing, and often, things that present themselves as healing are robbing you of more than what they claim to offer. Stephanie Ike Okafor has a fantastic series on the modernization of witchcraft that helps explain these things in context. She is a pastor, but you need not be Christian to see the wisdom in the research...

I appreciate this video, and can relate to health issues. You can't heal if things are tainted. The cost of the deathcare is our lives. I can no longer let fear of being alone, family, finances, or a plantation mentality keep me stuck. I've pondered the places, made the vision board, have a burning desire in my heart! It's time to make it happen!

Good morning Stephanie! First, I feel so fed from your channel. As I was listening to the show, I started feeling like Yvonne had cracked my head open and took a look inside at all of my thoughts. I know of Yoruba, but not familiar with the practices. A number of years ago, someone told me I reminded them of Ohshun, so I am familiar with that name. I was raised in the church and not exactly sure what I'm comfortable with. I wish I knew about this retreat before now, but I'm going to try to work it out. I am next door neighbors with Yvonne in Ohio and only a couple hours away and I am a big Pittsburgh Steelers fan. We have flown out of the Pittsburgh Airport a number of times. I visited Puerto Rico for the first time last year and I told my family I could live there. It is also a place I could live and still be in compliance with my telework agreement! I have been asking around and looking for a retreat since last year and I feel like this would be exactly what I want and need in this transformation phase of my life. Would love to meet Yvonne because I feel our future plans are in alignment with each other.

I didn't learn the lesson of doing less until I was losing my ability to walk and diagnosed with arthritis and degenerative disc disease.

I got a kick in the pants. I had already applied to the Miami Book Fellowship but I just stopped. I applied for a writer's workshop next month.

I loved this conversation! I’m watching the replay and soaking up the writing information and Yvonne’s writing life. That was helpful. And then, to hear about the healing retreat and incorporation of the orixás. Love it. ❤️ I’m hoping there will be a future one.
