Lil D Prior to this performance, no short programme has ever scored more than 100. And Hanyu did it in 2014, becoming the first man to do so.

he broke the 100 barrier in an official ISU competition at the games. he actually broke 100 a little while back before this but bc the competition wasn't sanctioned by the ISU, it couldn't count towards any world records.

watching this in 2024 while missing yuzuru's competitive days and anybody notice a difference in speed of skating and entries/landings of jumps these days? aside from artistry and musicality which yuzuru dominates in, his form from entry to landing is gorgeous and the actual speed of yuzuru's skating is insane... watch the backboards blur while he's preparing to enter a jump, his spinning torque, the distance he travels in midair when he jumps, and footwork across the ice. he is a legend.

@@cherrycheol3266 it's basically the program that happens before the free skate segment. It's usually about 2 minutes and 50 seconds long. Less than the length of an MV. Perhaps the length of an Mcountdown stage. Hence called short program

I think in the short program its is way more critical to skate clean and land all the required elements for scoring and 3A is a bigger risk since its harder.

Japanese rescued Polish orphans in 1920 and 1922.Yuzuru Hanyu's ancestors rescued Polish orphans. Yuzuru Hanyu's ancestors also donated a lot of money to save Polish orphans. I am European and know this story. In 1920, the Japanese saved 765 orphans in Siberia in response to a request for assistance from Poland. The Japanese continued to save the orphans without interruption. Almost all Japanese are said to have donated money to save Polish orphans. They sent the orphans to Japan and treated them. Later, Japan safely sent 765 Polish orphans to Poland.

I’m sorry but the way people shouted Russia just before his performance was about to start was really disrespectful. And the crowd did it after Yuna Kim’s performance too. Yuzuru may not be fazed by those things but for a skater with any less stale nerves that would’ve been very distracting.

This is so sweet! His first program I watched was the free for the Sochi Olympics but I saw it one year later, randomly searching on youtube because I remembered I loved watching skating as a kid on national tv. Even with some mistakes he had made, I was so captivated by his elegance and being clueless about figure skating I started watching the sport in general. I've been hooked ever since. At worlds 2017, I had only watched the short program and at the free I was at my first job, second day, working on Easter eve. My sister called me excited on the way home on the bus, not a figure skating fan, so I should have realised this was important. I was ready to tell her about the job, tired and sad beacuse I had missed the game and I thought he stood no chance after the sp and she goes "Yeah, yeah all right..Do you know who got it? Hanyu :p " I don't think I will ever forget this moment.

Of course he doesn't look that different. He's 26 not 40. People generally don't age that much between 19-26. However, it'd be amazing if he still look the same when he reach his 40s or 50s tho.

What I really really like about him the most besides his crazy passion, is how thankful he is. He just broke another record there and he’s not like I’m the coolest guy in the world ( he is tho let’s be real he’s a legend) but you can see him constantly bowing instead and saying thank you so much. Yuzuru has an extremely good home education and he did his home work properly! Other side he is a wild child and full of life. It's an amazing combination! He is someone you only have to love. His 101,45 score was a record breaking one, making him the first ever male skater who surpassed the 100-points mark for the short program. Almost 3 years have passed since the Sochi Olympics, but since then, he already surpassed this score FIVE times, out of which two were another world record scores (2015 NHK Trophy and 2015 Grand Prix Final, 110,95 is the current world record score). He holds the first five places on the highest ever short program scores - in order: 1. GPF 2015, 2. World Championships 2016, 3. GPF 2016 4. NHK Trophy 2015 and 5. NHK Trophy 2016. I don't think there are enough superlatives to describe Yuzuru Hanyu's skating and achievements!
