I'm sorry, I'm American and I love Nathan Chen for his hard work and determination. He may take home a basket of gold metals, but he could never skate like this. Yuzuru is the world's best. He has it all. He is a superior performing skater. No one touches his God given gift of music interpretation and grace in dance along with jumps. I'm so glad to be alive during this time to have been given the gift of watching him skate.

Totaly agree. Nathan is powerful technically with his jumps but Yuzuru he moves heart, full of emotions, what a great artist 🤩 he’s like a fluid flowing harmoniously on ice. ❤️ i just love him 🥰

Hanyu speaks to and connects with the souls of those who watch him, and when he’s finished, he thanks the ice and so beautifully appreciates his audience. No other skater can do that.

“notte stellata”, italian for “the starry night”, is an incredibly special program for yuzuru. as many probably know, yuzuru and his family were affected by the tohoku earthquake that devastated the eastern parts of japan on march 11 2011, which forced them to temporarily reside at a makeshift evacuation center located in a school gym. a power outage occured that very night, and when he, along with the many others that stayed in the gym, looked up into the sky, they saw one that was filled with bright and beautiful stars which yuzuru described as little lights of hope. the emotions conveyed in this dazzling program were the very emotions he felt when he, a 16 year old that had just lost everything, looked up into that beautiful sky. the hope felt under that starry sky seven years ago, wishing that the disaster-stricken areas will be able to recover and become brighter. your message has reached us, yuzuru. thank you for being our own star of hope. 🌟

Inevitably Yuzu will stop competing one day. There may come a time where all his records are broken and a time will come where he is no longer ranked 1st in world standing. I've said this a million times before, and I'll say it again. His understanding of music is exceptional. He can do so much with simply his musicality, no need for quads. Yuzuru displays the art of figure skating at it's purest form.

Imo, this is what figure skating is supposed to be about. I have yet to see someone in the men's singles skate with so much emotion like he does. I find that nowadays, a lot of figure skaters turn their programs into jump fests. They focus so much on the technical aspects that they forget about why they chose the music they are skating to, why they're skating in the first place. Performances like this one is why I love watching figure skating so much, and why I'm learning how to skate myself. Never stop, Hanyu!

Watching Yuzuru Hanyu skate will always makes me enter a world full of emotions that I never knew existed. I did not even know that I had emtered a new world until I reached the end of his performance. It's amazing how he can send message through his skating. I can still remember when I first saw him skate, the first program I first saw him performed was the "Hana ni Nare" and this is the program that actually saved my life. Hanyu Yuzuru is a wonder, a one of a kind existence in this world. It is amazing to be born under the same generation as him as he continue to make history over and over again.

I don't know anything about figure skating but Yuzuru's performances are just beautiful and it got to the point that I ditch Kpop videos to watch every Yuzuru videos now 😂

It seems as though the sport is leaning more and more to the technical side of the scoring system, and the fact that Yuzuru doesn't rely solely on that is why I love him so much. Why I don't like Nathan Chen's skating despite the fact that I am American. Yuzuru is the best skater in the world not only because he can jump, but because he can preform.

The recent competitions have higlighted to me, that Yuzuru truly is special and the best figure skater ever. Even though there are amazing competitive skaters, none of them feel as complete and perfect as Yuzuru. I'm so happy we can still see him skate in ice shows💕

Ive never given the Olympic figure skating much thought, because i never really took interest in it. However, when i saw this performance, i went down a rabbit hole. Yuzuru sparked an emotion in me, that i never knew i had. This performance in particular, really brought me to tears. He's movements, everything. Just spectacular and wonderful. I know, he no longer competes but i thank you Yuzuru for bringing joy into my heart 💜

He's grown into a professional skater & executive producer of "a new form of entertainment" as he describes. He's doing is first tour with the last show the weekend of February 17 and a second show on the 19th. It's called Re_Pray, which is based on the ethics and morals from the world of video gaming. He is mounting another ice show, Notte Stellatta in March in his home Tohoku region that suffered from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. It was the costliest natural disaster in history, according to the World Bank. Yuzuru and the Hanyu family were affected where they had to stay in a make-shift evacuation centre for 3 days after the quake. Notte Stellatta 2.0 seems like it might become a regular show as Yuzu has vowed and donated his Olympic winnings and many other times to the reconstruction of the area.

Remembering 3.11 on this day. "It was sheer darkness. And it was intensely silent, because there were no cars.. It was the true night sky that we hardly ever see, the sky filled with stars. Everyone who saw it talks about that sky" - an excerpt from Ghost of the Tsunami. Knowing this makes me appreciate notte stellata more. The message and the memory behind this performance is heartmoving, inspirational and it gives us a glimpse of what's inside yuzu's heart, who he is not only as a skater but as a person, a survivor, a fighter.

What an incredible talent this guy has. So gracefull. He makes the triple axels look so easy. Legs of rubber. He walks off the rink after a brilliant performance and just chills like it was nothing special.. Superb!!!

Artist, athlete, sublime figure skater. Thank you Yuzuru Hanyu for sharing your talent with the world.

Again and again and again...I never get tired of watching Yuzuru Hanyu on ice. He has a magical heart for skating. He takes my breath away. Although 27 is so young, it is not so young for the body on ice. My heart wishes He could win every World Chamipionship, two more Olympic Golds, and Grand Prix's for years and years to come. There is no one on the ice, male or female, like the superior Yuzuru Hanyu. His complete engagement with his spirit and the music is gloriously performed. My appreciation for the gift he gives with each performance grows and grows. When he does the single axel, he looks like grace floating thru the air. Jumps are a technical muscle strength trick...and beautifully impressive, but when you combine them with a pounding presentation of more muscle strength, no grace, elegance , rhythm and expression, it's totally awkward and unimpressive. Yuzuru gives us all of it no matter what the beat of the music. He is a great entertainer and gifted athlete. There is no one I'd rather watch.

This was purely an art... Yuzuru Hanyu is a kind of Skater thar makes you wonder how much emotion and a beauty a performance could hold

3:50 to conclude his masterpiece, Yuzu folds his human form into a swan, its angel wings on full display, gliding across the icy lake, untouchable.

Back again! Now he's a pro skater, and recently skated this at Tokyo Dome in front of 35,000 twinkling crowd lights. That show will be on Disney+ worldwide soon, so keep an eye out ;)

If there were a figure skating conpetition that never focused on jumps, or limited the number each skater could do per routine, yuzuru hanyu would definitely win every single time

it's 2023 and this is still the most beautiful gala performance ever. Long live the GOAT, OverLord and King of Figure Skating, Yuzuru Hanyu, The Swan 🦢

When you take out the jumps, that's when you see who's really worth watching. Yuzuru doesn't need big jumps to make our eyes shine, just his ethereal, beautiful skating...

Standing in the darkened ice rink, waiting for the music to start, with thousands of eyes fixed on him. Yuzu is no longer the teenage boy who was sitting in that absolute darkness staring helplessly at the sky full of stars after the earthquake. Now he has become the star, for his resilience, courage, and kindness. He has brought hope to people all over the world who are suffering through darkness, including myself. After watching the 2022 Winter Olympics, I found myself here. I'm not trying to belittle anyone; I will never be able to understand the hardships and hard work every single skater pours on their programs. However, I will say that while watching this, I cried so much for two things. First, I cried over the emotions Yuzuru delivered with his spectacular moves, music control, facial expressions, and fluidity. Second, I remembered what I've watched at the 2022 Winter Olympics, lot's of skaters trying to prove that they are landing their jumps perfectly, collecting the technical points. The second reason why I've cried is the fact that I got angry. I felt so many emotions with this performance that I haven't felt in lots of performances from the 2022 Winter Olympics. Now, what is actually figure skating? Is it a showdown for getting the perfect jumps, or is it the perfect combination of art and sport, flying on the ice and being one with the music? Thank you, Yuzuru, and other figure skaters, who make me feel like I'm feeling each every emotion while watching their performances.

what makes it worse is that the top scorers (at least in the women's category) can't even take off or land from their jumps with proper technique...the ISU as a whole is just so corrupted.

I agree. This was the very first thing I ever watched him skate. I cried for an hour and I've been totally devoted to him since.

Incomparable, stunning, breath-taking, awe inspiring, mesmerizing, It is like I fell in love and the rest of the world stands still, every time I watch this.

his delayed single axel will always be the most divinely beautiful of all jumps. More difficult jumps are athletically impressive but that one looks just like flying. I wonder could one hypothetically put a single rotation jump in the choreography portion of a competetive program?

There are rules about the limit number of jumps a skater is allowed to perform in one competitive program. Since the single axel has very low bv 1.10, it will lower bv of the whole program. Also that “delayed” effect isn’t as easy as it looks. I don’t think we’ll see delayed single axel again after Yuzuru retires

well, he did ...look up Otonal SP , in the step seq he does a hydroblade immediately followed by a sort of one footed axel jump...it looks very impressive.... I recommend from Helsinki 2018, Cup of Russia 2018 or Skate Canada 2019

But his quads are sublime too. He is capable of making his quads part of his programs and equally mesmerizing with or without quads. The problem is not with the quads; it lies with the skaters who perform quads.

Sooo beautiful..he is skating like a ballet dancer on ice.It's so calming that I often come to watch it❤

It's difficult & somewhat dangerous skating with theatrical lighting. That's why it's so nice to watch a skater who has so much more than just physicality

As Belind Noonan said, Yuzuru Hanyu just gave a masterclass on what figure skating actually is. This is figure skating.

He always performs to tell the world his thoughts through his performances, and I always love it

This kind of performance is truly divine. I've watched the whole Gala performance including other skaters' performance. Theirs were brilliant but Yuzuru Hanyu's was on another whole new level. Others used loud music and tried to hype the crowd to attract attention. But Yuzuru Hanyu was able to use a very quiet and calm music to attract everyone into his world of skating. It was as if he's not skating in an ice rink. He was the swan skating on an ice lake under a night sky full of stars. The atmosphere changed as he started skating and the air was cleansed after he ended. And you're back in reality and realised you've experienced a truly magical moment. I envy those who watched him live. It must have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

That delayed axel was absolutely breathtaking.. he looked like he was floating. Yuzuru Hanyu truly is a masterful skater and performer. Every single movement is art.

He's the "superhero who can fly". And I'll bet this exact same delayed axel is what helped make that possible.
