Little things I really love about this track: - the melody Ren "heard" to play on the guitar (solo, but also in the intro and elsewhere), and just in general the melodic/rhythmic twist they put on this song. I always want Sting to see this video because I'd hope he'd love what they did (I owned this album when it came out when I was a young teenager, and played THE SHIT out of it for a decade & it's still a beloved favourite I revisit) - Ren out-Stings Sting (imo) with that POWERUL delivery of "Takes more than combat gear to make a man/Takes more than a license to a gun" - Ren's gestures as they sing "be yourself no matter what they say" over and over near the end. He does it in Swan Song, too. Things I don't like about TBP's version (both things are MINOR QUIBBLES no matter what words I use to describe them - I *always* love seeing this one when it comes up on a reaction channel... it's just... idk... JOYOUS): - I don't completely adore the way they wrote the vocal harmonies; it's DAMN GOOD, don't get me wrong, but they use a different 3-part harmony structure than my ear craves to hear (I was immersed in the formal study of music as a kid/young person, I can't remove that stick outta my ass, all I can do is be open about it when it's impacting my personal experience of music) - I'm a little grumpy about Ren's choice to change up the lyrics near the end and I don't think Sting would approve ;) Edit: I think you need to do Ren & Sam Tompkins' busking video titled "Improvising around Stevie Wonder."

If you ever need to take a day or more off I would like to think we here understand 🌻💕 You work very hard (the hardest working reactor I'm personally aware of actually). So if you need a day take a day. We'll all be here when you get back 😊 Also: Watching this live performance it is very obvious (to me anyway) that Ren loves the music. He's doing what he is doing for the love of music. I am not all that familiar with him as an artist and even I can see that two minutes in watching this performance. He is also obviously talented. Harmonizing is NOT easy. (I know. I had music family members who tried to teach me how to sing. Can I sing? HECK NO.) And anyone who says learning how to play guitar is easy, it ain't. It wasn't for me anyway. I had to take guitar in music class. (Acoustic guitar). You think I remember anything beyond the A chord? No. I had a hard time with it. Guitar looks easy. But it isn't. I taught myself how to play "Silent Night" on my keyboard. Back in the day before YT. I taught myself by ear. THAT was easy. Trying to learn finger placement on a guitar fret and then switching from different chords while trying to remember the chord progression? Nope. Not easy. I struggled hard. I had the nicest, kindest music teacher in the world so I had to tell her, "I appreciate your faith in me but I have to be honest... I suck at playing guitar. We both know it and that's okay." I should clarify here: I am not musical. Not in the least. But my love for music will always be in my blood. The guitar may be easy for some to learn. But it was absolutely not easy for me. So I really appreciate musical people that put in the work to learn how to play an instrument (or two). I had no idea that Ren got hate. No idea. I won't ask why. Jealousy maybe? I always just chalk it up to that. And maybe Ray you should too. If people are telling you you're doing it wrong, then by all means, please they should start their own reaction channels so that we all can see "the right way" to being a music reactor. Thank you so much for sharing 💐 Yeah in grade school we started out on the recorder (a wind instrument that is kinda like the piccolo or flute). Pretty easy instrument. The xylophone came next. That wasn't so hard to learn either. But the acoustic guitar was the one that I really struggled with learning. It takes fine motor skills and dexterity and an ability to memorize the chord progression (because you can't watch your fingers and look at the music sheet at the same time lol). It was more difficult for me. Yes. The joy on Ren's face in this video is undeniable. He loves music. It's obvious. Too his talent is also becoming more & more apparent to me. He really is a talent music artist. How anyone can hate on that I don't know & I don't want to know. I wish Ren all the success in the world. The haters out there make it all the easier to wish him every success 😄 (That's the truly ironic part about hate. Indifference is actually the worst thing in the world. Hate keeps the hated relevant.) @@sammy_the_uncool2702 i just watched the interview with that hater. And it was quite telling. The poor man was so messed up, and revealed all his cards. (I don't know if he realized doing so). And no, it wasn't a winning hand. But what was maybe even sadder was that he seemed to be quite unaware of that It wasn't the cards per se, but the fact that he had shitted on them, which made his life miserable. Instead of realizing that, he insisted to keep up the shitting - as that at least gave him the little moments of attention he so desperately craved for... So, instead of trying to fix his behaviour that had led him there, he bitterly moaned of others being more talented and good looking than him. Which (despite being a fact) wasn't The Reason for his misery. And, albeit it being a sad story, I wish no one will try to rescue him from there out of pity. As he will probably eventually destroy everyone that tries to. Because they cannot do it. Save him from himself. (And he will eventually hate them for that, as it becomes obvious). As it is solely for himself to do. No one else can do it for him. If he wakes up, finds a mirror and starts that painful journey, people can help him to get on with that path. But not without himself being willing to face himself and the concequences of his own actions/behaviour. It is a raw deal, but, quite frankly, that's what it is. Life. For us all.

Ren has more talent in one finger than most have in their entire body.

I think the drummer Glenn got married and moved to Korea or some other Asian country and Gorran wanted to work more on his folk music stuff. That's what I heard, at least. Musically, the three are going in different directions. Which could have been a factor for the band's hiatus in addition to Ren having to go to Canada for treatment. But that's just me speculating.

It wasn't musical directions really that distanced them as they always genre-hopped. But they all were travelling to different countries. Ren going to Canada, Gorran went to Europe, Glenn and his fiancee went round India/Sri Lanka/(poss Australia too), and Romain was in Brighton. So they didn't know if/when they would be in the same place again for a year or two.
