A little surprised how long it took for this archetype to get more support. It was pretty iconic and little bummed we never got additional Guardian Pieces. Like a Fire piece, Earth, Dark, etc.

Similar to how Novelles and recipe cards are combined into one archtype, we beee more Lab support. Like a card that allows one to special summon lab wall from the hand or deck, as well as use it as a defensive tank Like it gives it protection effects from card effects so you can only beat it with brute force

Fun fact: in some of yugioh video games gate Guardian is treated as a Ritual monster

1. I'm genuinely suprised to this day that this and the Yubel archetype weren't a thing like 15 years ago! 2. Credit where its due to the design team to be honest. They took full advantage of how much the game has evolved over the years and took one of the worst boss monsters in its history and turned it into a cohesive, fun strategy with an actual win condition that also doesn't sacrifice the unique flavor of the original monster/s that helped make them so iconic to begin with. Them remastering the Labyrinth/Paradox Brothers cards to also give the deck consistency is *much appreciated*

I really like that Konami decided to retrain old bad, but iconic archetypes into new form, keeping original flaw but better suited for nowadays meta. Looking forward for new Yugi deck review!

I haven’t played yugioh in YEARS. This might be what brings me back. I love the gate guardian cards, and I’ve always wanted to use them. They were just SO BAD!! The new support looks awesome!

The Gate Guardian archetype definitely deserved the upgrade it got and it makes the archetype a bit better than before. I like how the Fusions are made up of two pieces and the attack is half of the combined attack of the two pieces they’re made up of. It’s really unique in my opinion

I wish the fusions got one type from one monster, and the attribute from the other to emphasize the fusion was a mix of the two pieces. The way it is now is like one part is completely dominate over the other rather than a collaboration. So close to perfection in my eyes.

Fun fact: the best combination monster (in my opinion) functions very similarly to Anime Gate Guardian: the boss monster of the White Aura fish archetype, White Aura Bihamut. It’s a giant fish with a WICKED high attack, and its card art has two heads. This is represented with this part of its effect: During your turn, when this card is Synchro Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Divine Dragon Token" (Fish/WATER/Level 10/ATK 3300/DEF 3000) in Defense Position. Also, it’s got a Hydra-type effect: Once per opponent's turn, while you control no Tokens (Quick Effect): You can Special Summon 1 "Divine Dragon Token". If this card you control is destroyed by an opponent's card effect and sent to your GY, while you control a "Divine Dragon Token": You can Special Summon this card in Defense Position. Seriously, if you are making a WATER deck, try Bihamut out. Even if you don’t use the whole (or any other members) archetype, Bihamut is a BEAST, and since they’ve been getting more support, maybe we can get a whole deck?

It is good to see gate guardian finally able to be good and anime accurate.

I know Bandit Keith got his modern retrains with Barrel Dragon, but I still want an update for Machine King ( or at least tie it with Nezbitt)

I was so happy to see the support from Maze of Memories, it only made sense to make a monster that's made from other monsters to be a Fusion monster, and the amount of special summons you can make with them can get ridiculous - and the support just making it super easy to summon them was the icing on the cake (unfortunately no Monster Tamer and Dungeon Worm retrains yet.)

Ikr with 2 burial from another dimension’s I got all three copies of combined XD, then thunder and windy search riryoku guardian for an otk 😂💯 when the deck gets shut down it gets shut down but when it pops off it goes brrrrr 🤣

So a very small detail that I find interesting is these new fusions seem to have Kazejin with its limbs intact. Original Gate Guardian Kazejin was just the middle section as just a ball even after it was destroyed in the anime it still remained JUST that ball with a mouth and cheeks , but each of the new fusions you can see his hands or arms still there. I thought it was a cool little detail.

I love how Suijin gets completely Screw over in terms of design😂

I wish they made a game outta the actual concept of Labyrinth Wall turning a game into like a table top game. That concept always intrigued me.

there already exists a game where you can move your monsters on the field, which is in some ways similar. it´s yu-gi-oh duelist of the roses. has some nice mechanics. I can definitely recomend it.

Great ideas for retrains. Only thing I'd add for consideration is by having "Gate Guardian" in their names, that makes cards like the new Riryoku and Double Attack significantly more powerful. I imagine Konami intended for those cards to only work with the combined variants given that, particularly in Riryoku's case, can end a game by itself.

I assume that Gate Guardian Combined can summon out normal Gate Guardian when it gets destroyed, hence why it said ignoring special conditions.

If there were ever to be a crossover between Yugioh and Pokemon I would love for the Regis to be merged with this archetype. The resulting aesthetic would be awesome.

3:35 By the way, the same is true for Blue-eyes Ultimate Dragon also (although the DEF is supposed to be 3750, not 3800) and it *might* be a common theme for fusions back in the early era of Yu-Gi-Oh. I need to fact-check this though.

Hopefully Greiger's "Reactor" deck is the next archetype to get this kind of love as assembling the three pieces to summon Skyfire is just as annoying as trying to summon Gate Guardian used to be.

In my opinion, I think these are some good retrains and support for Gate Guardian the Labyrinth cards. They did an especially good job retraining Gate Guardian itself and the composite fusion forms its three pieces can create, including ones we never got to see.

10 Points for updating the labyrinth series of cards for a second time but -3 points for not doing the entire video in rhyme

I really love their upgraded form! Anime accurated Gate Guardian!

Both Dark Guardian and Dark element were recently confirmed to be released in the ocg

10:17 additional clever thing to note here. The trap monster's ATK matches the English anime's Jirai Gumo rather than the real one because of the 400 damage Joey took for it killing Axe Raider, however it still has the real world one's DEF because the Japanese dub never had a stat to compare for that while the English dub did. Side note, fun personal fact, Jirai Gumo was my first ever card given to me by a total stranger that thought me how to play with his cards when I was a kid.

That tag duel and this archetype are a favorite of mine as a kid. I remember me and a few of my friends who love playing actually handmade the labyrinth wall field so we can play it at one of our places. Eventually making rules and conditions to make playing it. Have to see if any of them still have the pieces to that old collection.

Honestly I like the idea of updating old archetypes that got a lot of support recently like Dark Magician

i like that the two-piece fusions arent just "backups" in case your combined guardian fails,as all 3 of them have very useful effects that,in some situations actually makes them better that GG combined. wind-water in particular is very useful...if you manage to have it as well as GG combined out thats a pretty good desruption wall... a little protip...Magicians souls,fusion deployment and keeper of dragon magic fair well in this deck as they can help get your fusions out turn 1

The duel of Yugi & Joey vs. The Paradox Bros will always be a favorite duel from the series. And I think a large part of that is due to the cards the Brothers played in that duel.

I love these cards! Been dying to get them in master duel to really give them a go. Now the helilos cards and the guardian cards needs new cards to make them not garbage

Looking at the Jurai Gumo makes me think about what kind of horror materials the illustrators had back then to draw those monsters because some of them sure are nightmare fuel.

Also hoping maybe Kaiju gets some more support would love cards inspired by Kong, Destroyah, Rodan, and maybe Jet Jaguar

With these Duelist Kingdom cards getting retrained, I wanna see Rex get his cards retrained as well as Bonz having Pumpking getting a new form where he doesn't need Castle of Dark Illusioins and instead gets power from other zombies and Castle of Dark Illusioins becoming a field spell that powers Dark monsters as well as shielding them from an attack. Also a new Harpy Sisters card and Harpie Lady 1-3. Harpie Lady Sisters can attack 3 times and is a fusion monster that can be Contact Fusion. Harpie Lady 1-3 dont suffer from the early Harpie Lady Curse of being always a copy of Harpie Lady. And a Orichalchos version of Harpie Lady, Dark Magician, Guardian Eatos, monsters that were under the effects of the Orichalchos to fill up the Orichalchos archetype and a new seal of Orichalchos that if a Orichalchos monster is destroyed or destroyed a monster, it gains a counter and with enough counters allows you to summon Orichalchos Dragon, Leviathan.

Man, Suijin was the best. It was the first holo from the very first pack I I ever got. Always got a special place in my heart.

An old revamped archtypes that actually considered the possibilities of what happens on the field? Amazing Most of those older card collections that sought to work with each other were often to situational and inconsistent. This archetype actually retains that consistency with synergy in-game. I really hope that we get some labyrinth traps that trigger like Jiri Jumo with the column effects. They could also have references to other cards the paradox brothers used like Magical Labyrinth, Beast Tamer, or Tribute Doll, judgement of Anubis, dungeon worms, worm beast, guardian of the labyrinth. Magical labyrinth could summons “labyrinth wall” as long as you have labyrinth wall shadow in the field zone. Tribute doll could be a continuous trap that prevents Gate Gaurdian and his materials from destruction while also allowing you to summon those materials from the hand or grave. Monster tamer could be a trap that equips to an opponents monster in the same column and allows you to take control of it until the card leaves the field. Worms of the labyrinth (dungeon worms and worm beast) could be a trap card that negates the effects of cards in that column for as long as this continuous trap is on the field, also summoning a worm token to your side of the field each turn. A lot of creativity with this, excited to see where it goes.

I am so happy that one of the OG archetypes finally got some sort of support. I don't know why it took so goddamn long for Konami to do so but FINALLY it happened. Now I don't know how good it is when it comes to tournaments but honestly I don't care about that gate guardian is one of the coolest boss monsters I've ever seen

Thanks for the video. I do want to point out two things you were off on: The first is Sanga of the Thunder can get a quick tribute off of Kaiser Sea Horse. Second is Metal Raiders was released between 2002-2003. I know because I actually did a near-impossible, pulling a random pack of Metal Raiders, and I pulled Gate Guardian. Needless to say...I had to run out the store, because people were chasing me.

Really inconvenient that new support came right after your first video. But I'm glad for you that you at least could check this off of your to-do list now. Thanks for the video Sam :)

It would be nice if they did similar things with some of the cool but terrible in the IRL game archetypes, there are a lot that they've tried, and mostly failed with, like Red-eyes, Toon, Union, and one of my personal favorites Possessed/Charmers, but I just want some of my favorite underappreciated archetypes and cards to be more usable and hopefully, popular.

The Charmers Links are pretty useful. If you're playing mostly or entirely one attribute, there's room to splash them in. It was never going to function as an archetype on it's own anyway

The fact you can’t get Combined by Fusing the smaller Fusions is odd.

This takes me back to original Yugioh back then everything goes crazy I remember seeing this so many time On kids w b it's burned into my memory.

This was so cool. I can't wait for your next archtype or what if this person won video, In the dub of the anime the paradox brothers always annoyed me with their rhyming so always called them the Rhyming Rejects, but seeing all this support is very cool and maybe i might make a deck based around them on master duel.

12:11 this is why on duelingbook I've already made both for the other 2 piece fusions and a triple attack for the combined one

I came up with alternate versions of these monsters for fun, but focusing more on the elemental side Sanga of roaring thunder- does shock effects and effect damage kazejin of bellowing gales- returns spell and trap cards to the hand and forces a reload effect Suijin of storming floods- force changing of battle positions the three becomes tempest gate guardian combining effects even the labyrinth monsters are based off elements terra trapdoor gumo- earth- now based off a trapdoor spider for the extra earth and trap effect firewall labyrinth tank- fire- for defenses that weaken monsters of a certain element labyrinth casting wallshadow- dark- can attack over specific elemental monsters and are unaffected by card effects so long as a labyrinth wall exists on the field elemental wall labyrinth- labyrinth wall- but can boost the abilities of monsters/ stats of a declared element once per turn

AH BABY THIS IS WHAT WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR

Oh I just realized why Labyrinth Wall Shadow stops you from attacking on the turn a monster is summoned unless it’s level 5 or higher. In the anime, monsters could only move spaces up to their level. So, if you treat each zone on the field as 1 space, a monster in your hand moves across the monster zone, EMZ, monster zone, and spell/trap zone, in order to reach your opponent’s space.

I really hate the wording on it though. I assume it doesnt do anything to monsters that don't have levels, but everything that doesn't have a level technically does not have a level of 5 or above.

I missed it when the box first came out, but I know something I’m putting on my Christmas list this year

I was hoping for an updated version of the Gate Guardian Archetype, due to the number of new monsters and cards added to the set.

Fun fact: Dark Guardian's OCG artwork is the first time where they use the English Version of Yu-Gi-Oh as inspiration since the Sub didn't showcase it for some reason in the episode it debuted in, and the second time they reference the Dub.

Gonna be really honest, I thought the middle picture of the thumbnail was a dakimakura spread of the Gate Guardian, and I clicked out of interest for it. Still, I love watching you cover all of these archetypes, so I might as well come out and say thanks for doing these, even going so far as to show updates on old archetypes like this one!

I loved these episodes and I love these cards!

first booster box i bought had these guys in it and while i may never use them i do like that legacy cards are getting upgrades. i like the art and how they seem to be trying to make these cards fun to use, if not in a comp setting so much.

Anyone else hoping for new red eyes black and skull dragon cards? That was how Joey and Yugi were able to pull out the win at the end
