Paramedic story. I got called to a partial finger amputation. Dude says "I don't get why it cut so bad, it wasn't even my sharp knife." 1. Sharp knives don't roll off the food. 2. If a sharp knife cuts you, it's a clean cut. Less tissue destruction, less bleeding, less pain. 3. Partial amputations are, psychologically, WORSE than total amps because the brain doesn't acknowledge the missing part of a total amp. The bloody stub, however, is quite noticable.

@@TheMouseAvenger That’s why it’s important to practice safe cutting, so you’re not likely to cut yourself even if you slip. But a cut from a very sharp knife is also less damaging than with a dull knife. It’s a cleaner cut, so easier to clean and heal, less likely to get infected.

Sharper knives actually _are_ safer though, because they cut things more cleanly with less force. You don't have to struggle to cut things, which makes you _less_ prone to accidentally cutting yourself.
