Ystrap Adjustment | Yes or No?

In this video, Dr. Todd discusses the “y-strap neck adjustment” and his thoughts about this device, it’s safety, and whether or not he recommends it to others.
There’s a variety of KZread classic chiropractors that get lots of views on their videos for these sensational maneuvers. You may have seen Dr. Gregory Johnson, The Houston Chiropractor, Dr. Joseph Cipriano, and others...
But most importantly, what does this neck strap adjustment do, and is this technique safe? Is this simply a form of spine decompression or something else?
Check out this video to get more than just an opinion, but understand some of the anatomy of the cervical spine and also what exactly this move is doing to a person.

I agree with your view on the Y Strap. After receiving Gonstead adjustments over the last five years, I would never want or trust any other type of adjustment.

Great information on explaining the WHY behind your reasoning for not doing the Y strap technique. I also remember you explaining this to Trey and I during our first GoNstead adjustments!

I've never had the Y-strap before, but I will tell you that I have had a chiropractor put a towel around my neck before and pull. I felt better than I ever have with that certain adjustment. The other adjustments of manipulation of a single joint also works if you go to a good chiropractor. But how many good chiropractors are actually out there ?? Hmmm, I would guess, Not many. I do understand your way of doing things and maybe , hopefully I can get someone like you to help my situation out with my spine. I have had problems for years now and the only thing that ever seemed to help was the towel pull. But I am open to any and all adjustments if possible. Thank You for your explanations on the Y-strap.

Excellent explanation. It's important to know what to do, and equally important to know what not to do.

I love the Gonstead approach on Chiro. I watch both Dr. Joseph's Vids, and also Dr. Ian from Australia, also Dr. Rahim(Gonstead). I somehow learn a lot watching gonstead. I notice that those who are not in Gonstead, tend to just adjust. But, Drs. Rahim and Ian educate their patient really well. And I'm fine with that.

Gonstead didn't work for me. All my joints in my neck subluxate anterior and not posterior. Seen a ton of chiropractors and they messed me up even more with the posterior adjustments. The only methodod that works for me and my family is Blair teqnique. They adjust from front to back which they explain that how most subluxations occur. But everybody is different so not all one thing works for everybody I guess. Good video thank you for explaining about Y-starp.

glad you found something that helped!! Let's clear some things up through =-) Segments in the spine DO NOT subluxate anterior, they can compensate anterior, sure... but they will not subluxate anterior (meaning, you cannot adjust a segment from anterior to posterior, unless you contact on the anterior vertebral body). Many will incorrectly state that they do "anterior" adjustments, when they are simply blocked a segments and then pushing the body from anterior to posterior, which effectively is pushing the blocked vertebrae in question from posterior to anterior. If one truly wants to improve global alignment, Chiropractic Biophysics (curve and posture correction) is the way to go! see some of our other videos where we cover posture correction.

what's the difference between y-strap and cervical traction? in both you'll move all vertebrae and most will move those hypermobile
