YouTube Channels are Dropping like Flies. Here's how we're adapting.

Спорт

KZread has been switching things up more often, leaving many creators exasperated. Every time KZread makes a big change, there are winners and losers. Some channels shut down, while others find themselves perfectly positioned for the future. I'll give you my perspective on that today, and explain how Berm Peak is adapting.

I didn't include much context about my shoulder, but it's just jacked up a little and will heal on its own. I reached for something moderately heavy at a weird angle, and then couldn't reach as high as a shelf or microwave oven for about a week. I'll be back on the mountain bike by later this week!

Seth, part of the reason people watch your videos is your ability to communicate to your audience. You're very well-spoken and articulate your thoughts in a way that keeps the viewer engaged. Most MTB KZreadrs don't keep my attention like you do.. allowing me to actually enjoy a 12 minute video of the KZread industry without having to always review a product or something like that. Don't ever lose that aspect of your channel.. Hope your shoulder heals quick!

Your description of neuroplasticity and dopamine is spot on. As behavioral neuroscientist, I'll second this and add that in addition to known concerns about addiction to social media and rapidly shrinking attention spans, consuming short term videos may be related to increased risk of depression and anxiety. The causal relationships are not clear, it could be bidirectional, but I'm pleasantly shocked that youtube is going this direction. Really shocked. Maybe they realized the increasingly shorter content was too unpredictable? Surely it was not done for mental health reasons.....

Same - I feel like I'm the last of a dying breed of viewers who basically opens their sub page, watches any new videos from creators I'm subbed to that interest me, then stop watching. I'm never going to stop watching that way or watching Seth whilst his content keeps being uploaded and keeping his style/vibe - but I also appreciate that I'm in the minority here and most views come from non-subbed people who just watch whatever the algorithm feeds them

Your videos are something that I have been watching over the last year and have helped me stay into mountain biking. Another really amazing commentary video from you! I love the way you presented this. It's well-paced, not so fast you can't follow but not so slow that everything's repeated. Your words are very thought-out, coherent and well-articulated. The changes in location, the different camera angles and general movement strike a great, attention-retaining balance between boring talking head video and too much movement. The cinematography is immaculate. Tons of very well-composed shots, all in a coherent aesthetic. And that's just all the good stuff your opinion is accompanied by. Your thoughts on this are also great, they're balanced, take multiple perspectives into account and generally, they're like a healthy, nutritious meal for the brain. Huge praise to you and your entire team!

I can’t tell you how much I love seeing videos filmed in places I ride. Airstrip is a weird artifact. Thanks for explaining why some of my favorite creators are suddenly doing hour-long videos I’m not going to watch. I can understand why engagement isn’t as highly valued. As everybody adapts to the incentive structure, it gets gamed. And so much of that interaction is just…garbage that’s of no value to advertisers. Thanks for doing what you do. I’ll check out your substack, but I’ll admit to having a lot of subscription fatigue. I’m actually cutting back on them. Hopefully that’s not a trend that works too strongly against you.

Yes, it's sad to see engagement take sort of a back seat these days. I subscribe to channels I want to see, and one by one they disappear from my subscription feed, and I need to seek them out again. Just because I will watch something longer and different if it's served to me doesn't mean that's what I would prefer. I choose to subscribe to someone because, "that's something I want to continue filling my brain with!"

I agree with @owensnicholas and will add that I pay for KZread Premium because otherwise I wouldn't watch YT with all the ads and I've been doing that for years now. Many of these types of videos about people leaving or not leaving YT refers to posting videos on YT for free and how we watch these for free... you may not get compensated the way you would like from paying people like me but I also don't consider myself as someone who is getting YT videos for free.

Although it's frustrating to continually adapt to changes at a higher rate than ever, I think KZread is doing its best. Right now in terms of numbers the platform is very healthy. I just hope they try to hold on to what made them a great place in the first place.

You've done a great job of keeping your videos relevant throughout the changes. I stumbled onto your channel last year and bought my first bike a few months ago, weighing a lot of my choices based on your videos. As a consumer of KZread content since before the Google acquisition, I struggle to see marked improvements other than giving content creators that financial means of being themselves. I worry the changes in the last couple of years take away from that. Either way, I plan to keep watching your videos as they are always wholesome, informative, a better part of what I get to watch each week. Thanks for being you. @@SethsBikeHacks

Way to roll with the punches and stay consistent over time. As a newer MTB channel it can be hard to put time into content when the average attention span is so low. I try and remind myself that a “view” on KZread is worth way more than a “view” on Instagram reels, shorts, or Tiktok. KZread is such a good place relative to other social media/creative platforms and I value and appreciate those who can see when people put time into their videos. I’ve been watching you for years and I plan on watching for the years to come. Keep it up, your hard work is motivating to me when it comes to staying consistent and reminding myself that I do this whole KZread thing because it’s fun. ❤🎉
