    I don't get why you're losing subscribers over this. When I clicked that Red button THIS is precisely what I signed up for. This average guy who is so passionate about making a difference in regards to climate change that his KZread channel is wholly dedicated to it. Sure it's not as entertaining as watching you zip yourself into a box but it's just as important, informational and LOUD as any other video you've made. Thank you for acknowledging your privileges and THANK YOU for standing against climate change!

    I am relieved to know that you are up in these trees! It is a noble thing that you are doing! More people will rally to this cause as more press coverage is generated... Thank you for being there and using your voice. What I wonder through: so far, it's just you, the camp, and the trees (and the trains and the traffic). No sign of any workers or policemen, at least in your reporting. Are they approaching? Are they waiting for something? Do you know how long until they are going to try to get you out of the trees? Are you already delaying the plans, or could they wait for another week, get police to remove you from the tree, and build as if you were never protesting? I'm curious if you know anything more about this. Also, part of me wants you to have a Dragon Ball Z - style outro. "Will Kurtis and his posessions remain high and dry? Will he succesfully stop the pipeline, or will police get him out of there? Find out, in the next episode of, Kurtis In A Tree!'

    Question, what due you mean by ideological white noise?

  • @byter75

    @byter75

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@tvk380mtg9 Hmm.... There's a lot to unpack with that phrase, I'll try to be brief with an analogy. Imagine there's an engineer and their job is to set up a properly working central heating system. The engineer could address the problem by considering a great many ideological or philosophical points. Who are they making this system for? How will it be used? What doing this job says about them as a person, etc etc. Whist these are all interesting questions they don't necessarily get the engineer any closer to actually solving the problem. As I hope you can recognize, a good engineer or scientist focuses on building a grounded understanding of reality and on things they can have an effect on. As far as combating climate change or designing a properly working central heating system goes, we should never loose sight of the scientific reality behind these thermal systems and the solutions available to us, the further we stray from science and into the philosophical weeds of 'what is just? what is moral?' the more we shroud the science with ideological white noise.

    Siro Stehrenberger The main issues with nuclear are cost and time. Nuclear power plants are very expensive to construct and often take around a decade before they become operational, so in a climate crisis where time is of the essence, it’s a lot easier (and cheaper) to rely on other options including solar and wind. Solar especially is becoming a lot cheaper and requires a lot less time to set up.

    @@aerbonds2166 The cost and time thing is what got us in this mess in the first place, so it's quite short-sighted to dismiss nuclear based on these criteria. And there's simply no way to sustain daily power load with solar and wind alone.

    Hebl von Heblowitz Don’t get me wrong, I like nuclear, and I think it will play an important role in decarbonizing electricity, but my comment on time is absolutely a valid concern. It can take decades for a nuclear power plant to get from proposal to operational, and during those decades we should be pursuing all other renewable options as well.

    It's very noble to be okay with losing subscribers and not monetizing from the videos, but that also means KZread won't advertise your videos or suggest them nearly as much which unfortunately means fewer viewers. It's a difficult line to balance on. I wonder if monetizing and getting KZread to suggest your videos could be a way to get more viewers and therefore more people to see what you're sharing and educate. Hard to say what's more important: integrity or reality. Integrity that you don't want to make money off ads and companies that are bad for the earth. Reality that without the monetization, fewer people will hear what you have to say

    I think what this video is trying to say is that it is important to recognize our privileges. (For example, settlers living in Canada have a lot of advantages over indigenous folks.) But, even Kurtis says in the video that guilt isn't the best way to handle this privilege . Instead of feeling guilt, we should each take action to use our privileges, powers, and advantages to make the world better for everyone.

    Thank you for sharing your emotions! The guilt part is real and its very personal, but the problems are systemic. Nevertheless I still could not decide if I ever will fly again or do anything else that costs a big carbon budget, that is above a sustainable level. But with all this systemic carbon footprint weight as north european I never will only be near that sustainable level of 2-3 tonnes per year and person. I feel sick seeing every day our highly industrialized economy, that only produces a shitload of products and offers services, that most really don't need. The incentives our society gives (like cheap gasoline, vacation offers oversea by plane and boat with subsidized fossil fuels and subsidized industries, like the warfts building those big ships). And at least to me it seems like that not enough people are aware of the math, that our carbon budget is running out fast and even faster with net growth. Just want to thank you for your efforts, by showing that one can do effective things, even just one person! I really hope this plays out! Go for it!

But deeply needed. - Biggest problems are cement, steel, quicklime, glas industries. - Cars don't belong into city centers, bikes and pedestrians do. - Flying and shipping, that we can't afford just for fun. - Going 100% non fossil fuels, like electric or green gas is a must. - Fossil fuels have to go (Coal, Gas, Petroleum and Peat). - Burning food for energy is a bad idea. - Don't pollute the environment we depent on (toxines, plastics). - Don't take more than is naturally renewing or can actually be engieered (water, wood, food). - Feeding the population with meet, like we do, is inefficent and morally questionable.
