Summary for the Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives PDF (linked to above): "This report concludes that the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project (TMX) is not needed to meet forecasted Canadian capacity needs. The author, J. David Hughes, also demonstrates that contrary to claims that bringing heavy oil to tidewater for export to Asia will fetch a higher price, it will likely instead sell at a loss of $4-$6 per barrel. "Arguments for TMX look even worse in the context of Canada’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 as TMX will exacerbate Canada’s emissions reduction problem by incentivizing additional oil production growth Hughes says, adding that as it stands Canada has no viable plan to even meet the Paris Agreement, let alone the federal government’s promise of net-zero emissions by 2050. "Hughes says the government’s claim that building TMX is necessary to provide funds to reduce emissions is not credible and that what Canada urgently needs instead is a viable energy strategy to meet both the future energy security needs of Canadians and its emissions reduction commitments."
I was in a Treehouse in germany a few weeks ago until the police took me out and cut the 300 year old oak in the Dannenröder Forest.

Using slowness, time, and care to fight back is just a wonderful answer to everything that perpetuates climate change.
I just want there to be trees older than me when i'm old enough to show my kids the forests I gained my sense of wonder from.
*Somebody give this man a medal* I really respect you brother
You're making an impact and for that-- I thank you. There is still hope for a brighter tomorrow.
An oil pipeline is soo much last century. Hope you succeed!
I'm happy you managed to at least finish the treehouse, hoping that it will continue to slow the pipeline further!
This treehouse wouldn’t be built by Kurtis, if it wasn’t made from salvageable materials. You’re a legend man.
Get someone up into that treehouse ASAP! Use the slingshot to get a line up into another tree, then work your way over to the treehouse.
Absolute heroes, so thankful for people like you!
Thank you Curtis, and all who participated in this. We appreciate you all! Thank you!! Peace and love ☮️☮️☮️💜💜💜🌿🌿🌿
You are doing an amazing work! I'm so sad YT won't let me contribute with Spanish subtitles anymore 😔 I think it is important we're all aware of what 's being done to and for nature, hence humanity. Thank you for raising awareness and dedicating your soul to this cause. 🍃💚
Please keep going 🤩 you're amazing and I admire you so much!!!

The last two days have been really hard for me (re: the treehouse), but creating this podcast has been food for my soul - I hope it can be the same for you 💚
Thank you for what you do, Kurtis. I love trees, and every time one is chopped down I feel physically sick. Keep fighting the good fight.
you ok ? What happened?
That's dedication
Looking forward to listening to the next podcast episode!

Thank you and everyone else involved for all that you guys do to stop the pipeline
Wow, you’ve grown a lot as a KZreadr since I was last on your channel! I am absolutely honoured to be featured on your channel. Keep up the awesome work, Kurtis!
I'm so sorry that your plan didn't work out. I'd have been searching the news for 'Tree house blocks TMX'. It is true you did manage to delay the project. Perhaps there is another spot along the planned route where another tree house can be built.
Thank you for participating and reporting on this action
As somebody who has been putting a lot of energy and time in my environmental activism and is starting to feel burnt out, I really appreciate you doing this and using your platform to encourage people to join and support. It really helps keeping me going! Thank you
Great work man. Proud to know you. :)
I love this tree house! It looks totally amazing and a real symbol of hope and resistance to the mad things happening in the world today. Your wish that this will be shared is happening - A friend put in on a Cambridge (UK) Extinction Rebellion chat group so I found it and now I will share it. I have friends defending woodlands from HS2 construction in the UK. Good luck with your campaign - solidarity across the Atlantic!
Make sure you are watching the workers for safety violations, WCB could really slow them down.
HES BACK AT IT AGAIN! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for what you are doing for the earth and society. Good luck slowing the construction of the pipeline and y'all are an inspiration to others. Please let us know how we can help!
I'm confused - you already said you may get arrested when you were suspended the first time - So if you were already not worried about legality - why not cut through the fence and climb up anyway?

I love everything you do ❤️
this is amazing. where can i sign up to be a part of the next treehouse project!
It seems to be quite a coincidence that the police and contractors turned up just when there was no one there. Did it not occur to anyone that they would be watching the site so they could come in when it was unoccupied. Either that or you have an informant in your midst.
Wow! Inspirational!
Thank you.
Don’t give up!! Get yourselves back up in that treehouse!!!
Keep doing what you do best!
Did he fall from the tree and die? Where are you mate

Hey I’ve been looking into making a treehouse I have some questions 1) is there pros and cons to making a treehouse on 1 tree 2 or 3 trees if so what are they 2) I want to make my treehouse higher up off the ground like 15 -25 feet, the higher off the ground I go the more the tree shakes meaning what? Are my bolts screws nails wood and what not now more likely to shake is there a way to counter that, is doing the treehouse on 1 tree safer if my higher off the ground? Is there a height limit 3) I plan on building this in New Jersey the weather is strong winds snow and stuff dose that make a difference 4) what kind of wood screws and bolts should I use to insure safety and stability and if I plan on spending extra money to increase safety how much do you estimate it will cost 800? 1000? Much less much more??? Thank you!!!
**GIANT HUGS**
Thank you so much for your service.. this Earth needs it.. If we use drones to get a person to go and occupy tree house it would be awesome.. Don't mind me I'm just fantasizing..
If you’ve had someone in the trees for months, why leave without anyone there for a night at such a crucial time?

@@ScopeofScience I see! I thought you had people on site 24/7 until this point, like when you were in the flying tent in the other video (but I do see the difficulty in accomplishing that, even more difficult the fewer people you have). I wish you good luck in the continued fight, and that wish is sadly the best I can do for you from the other side of the world.
I spent a couple of seasons as a tree trimmer. Cottonwood isn't the best species to do that. It doesn't bend before it breaks; it just snaps. Be careful!
I think the thumbnail could be even more clickbaity. The more people click this to see just a tree house the more potential support you'll get. Thank you Kurtis for all your actions against climate change!
im listening to the podcast now lol
You guys are heroes
Every day you delay ... exactly. Mazel Tov!
Now you have to move 100 yards down and make another!
Kurtis in a tree -> Kurtis in a treehouse, what's the third Pokémon form?
We're very lucky that there are people like you around. The companies involved will happily cause huge destruction because they are not expected to pay the true cost of their actions. You're all an inspiration.

Trees that big you have to cut from the top down. It would be extraordinarily dangerous to cut the tree down with the treehouse in it.

@@ScopeofScience Ah, that makes sense. Cool, I'm glad it's still helping. Although I'd use the time it's buying to set up somewhere nearby along the planned pipeline in case they do manage to cut that one down before you can get back there.

I heard the tree house is gone.
Boating oil over the ocean. What are we doing to stop that? Trans mountain isn't a good idea in my opinion but energy east is. The maritime provinces and Quebec buy a lot of their oil from Saudi Arabia. Using oil until we can be off of it is what we'll have to do, but we can stop boating oil over the ocean from Canada super easily. Just cancel trans mountain and start up energy east. Or, unrealistically, stop oil immediately (not possible).
That’s not the highest my uncle built one 90ft in the air for his 8yr old son and 7yr old daughter and me and my cousin where the only people to use it since it was built
where can I learn more about how a pipeline will cause environmental and ecological damage?
@ScopeofScience
3 жыл бұрын
Listen to the podcast. Link in the video description. The summary is that it will allow for oil production to increase, which will exacerbate climate change; it will destroy 1100km of habitat to build the pipeline in its place; and its extremely likely that there will be another spill that will poison water and ecosystems. Also it's dangerously flammable, and built in a place that experiences intense seasonal wildfires.
Rip this channel :(
Get some naruto runners to distract the police and workers. That tree isn't Area 51. With enough runners it would be possible.
so they cant just go around?
@ScopeofScience

Nope, the pipeline path is narrow in that location, and they need to clear the trees to bring in their machines. The cottonwood is in the middle of it all.

Protesting trees being cut down by building a Treehouse out of Trees that have been cut down.
This is perfect for TikTok! It's exciting and cool and has an important message.
Why don't they just cut the tree even though the treehouse is still up there?

The only safe way to cut trees of that size (especially given that its next to a highway and a public park and a railway) is to cut it from the top down.

@@ScopeofScience Good to know. I hope your treehouse will stand there some more time. Greetings and good luck from Germany
Have you thought about the possibility of someone getting seriously injured because of you and your treehouse? Do you care about the people who have to take it down because it's their job?
@ScopeofScience
3 жыл бұрын
We have taken safety very seriously - it is extremely well secured. They are building scaffolding up to the treehouse at this moment, and I think that is a very safe way to take it apart. It is also a very expensive and time consuming endeavour. I am doing this work because I care about everyone on this planet - the lives of those workers and their children. The effects of climate change due to this pipeline are way more dangerous to way more people than this treehouse.

@@ScopeofScience You've made it very clear in your video that you have taken measures to ensure it's "very hard to do safely". Even pointing out that the treehouse full of glass! So much for your care for the people who have to risk their lives because of you. Besides that, I would strongly encourage you to put your intellect and energy into helping science and industry to come up with better, smarter, more efficient and cleaner alternatives for our machines instead of this reckless, dangerous and illegal activism!
