A lot of drivers like to upsize their wheels without learning how to adjust their new tyre pressure. Maybe you could do a video to show the correct way to determine their new tyre pressure with different load rating/sizes.

I'm not a fan of plus-sizing, actually more a fan of minus-sizing, from the 18-20 inch diameter truck rims that pass for passenger car wheels nowadays! But generally, when plus-sizing, I recommend 1-2psi additional cold pressure per one inch larger diameter wheel. If minus sizing, maintain OEM door frame sticker pressure on the narrower, higher profile tires, or decrease cold pressure, at most, 1psi, if ride feels too rough.

Just set the pressure to the PSI listed on the sticker on either the inside part of the driver door or the inside door well.

How does the car know what tires you put on it? My car lists 32 psi, at this pressure the tires are not inflated and sit on a flat spot on the bottom.

That's definitely the idiot proof answer however on my SUV the door placard is the same for all three tire size options and when I first got the vehicle that's what I set it too. However after just a couple of thousand miles I could see where the tires were starting to wear in the telltale signs of under inflation, now I go about 8lbs more and that's not happening and there ride is only marginally affected

Omg!!!! This explains so much with my last set of tires. I couldn’t understand why I need new tires so soon. Very helpful video!

Good info on that one, well done. Track days and environmental conditions come to mind here, where you may want to manage tire pressure. Would be cool if you can shed some light on that. Cheers =)

I had a dealership mechanic once tell me that my tires were "choppy" I thought he was blowing smoke and trying to nickel and dime me lol good to know that's an actual thing. I still think he was trying to spend more money than i needed too.

The door on my 2015 Toyota Camry reads 35 psi. It is a hot summer and today using the hand gauge, I get that the tires are 30 - 32 psi. Is that low? Do I want them full at 35 psi all year or only for the colder winter months? I am new to North Carolina (from Florida). Thank you.

If your car is losing 3psi during summer especially if the temperatures aren't dipping below 10 degrees of the previous day temperature... You should check for leakage

What causes some tires to maintain a good air pressure over the course of a few weeks and other to lose more pressure than expected over about the same time period?

Could be a bad valve stem, a microscopic leak, etc.

SeanB: Many folks I talk to claim that the tire pressures on the B-pillar sticker of a car are "bare minimums", or even "underinflated" values. How do I reason with people who believe these things? I find the vehicle manufacturer's recommended cold pressures to be, for the most part, spot-on, as far as handling and ride are concerned, and would vary from them only by 1-2psi, especially on more recent vehicles(2012 - present), where upwards of 34psi are often recommended, compared to 30-32psi twenty years ago. 24-28psi cold pressures were fine in the bias ply tire era, because of the different internal construction of such tires, so I would never recommend such low pressures on anything built since 1980 - even an Explorer..!

@Robert XYZ Actually, since customers have likely driven their cars to your store, it's OK to inflate new or repaired tires to sticker +2 to 3psi, to account for time of day and distance driven your place of business. If you set a car to sticker at the shop, that customer could be as much as 3psi below sticker tomorrow morning. Also, different brands of tires might wear quicker at sticker pressure than might some other brands. As for me, I never go more than 1psi over sticker, cold, dawn, not yet driven pressure, unless I'm diagnosing a leaker and need some reserve pressure to get me to a garage or tire center. Car drives fine for me, even if I occasionally 'push' things.
