"Your State Of Mind Has Got You Into SO MUCH Debt" | Dragons' Den

Ойын-сауық

David Audsley was next into The Den, he's a hairdresser based in Knaresborough who thinks he has a solution to a long-established problem in his industry. He created The Daily Appliance Intelligent Organiser (DAIO). With 650,000 house fires in the UK caused by unattended hair care appliances, the DAIO’s two “childproof” heatproof silicon cups prevent such appliances coming into contact with flammable materials. Audsley said that within three months of launching the product, it was featured on ITV’s 'This Morning'. But Peter was first to question the entrepreneur... “If you’ve been on This Morning, it’s going to sell as much as it’s going to sell isn’t it?”
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Starting a business will do that for you.. That’s why most people fail, it is VERY stressful and it could take years for it to be actually profitable, not everyone is built for that.. That’s why I have the upmost respect for the dragons and anyone that started a successful business from the ground up.

Nick Jenkins is massively underrated, he sits there quite quiet and he doesn’t look at the product, nor the business, he looks at what can be done with the product and where it can go in the future, he looks outside the box and sees the potential beyond even what the owner or inventor has seen, if he can figure it will work in his mind he goes for it regardless of caveats at the current time. He’s also very polite, well spoken and courteous. Top guy.

His IP were never owned or registered by the business, which got him reported with the view of being disqualified as a director. He is still Director of his salon so it appears they didn't ban him and that he didn't become bankrupt. He didn't hear a word they said,he's just going to carry on getting more and more in debt. That should be £10 MAX then it might sell, but people just can't afford £40 ,they will just not leave them lying around for a baby to play with etc Yes it is a good product but as they said it's far to over engineered, all it does is store curling tounges after all,he's seeing a massive problem when it isn't. If it was such a big problem then there would be some sort of legislation. If he sold his stock at a loss and it did fly off the shelves proving a market then he could find a way of getting it made cheaper but at the moment he hasn't even proved a market

The thing that really worries me is who the hell gave him £170k without seeing this. £20k of a clients money, £80k of his partners money, £70k of his own money, a large proportion borrowed, its logo tattooed on his wrist, the price - it's insanity, he must have had a business plan that other people have seen. It needs to be half the price, £40 is not an impulse buy, it's is a price where most people would stop and think 'am I really spending this on a rubber cup and a plastic frame? I'll just continue to put my tongs on the side'. Despite the fancy packaging, this isn't going to give people that fuzzy feeling people get when buying a 'luxury' product. It also only comes in the one colour! The thing that's really sad though, is that it's actually a really good product, and if he where to bring production costs and the retail price down, they'd fly off the shelves, I would have thought that you could get these made for pennies, or at least cheaper than £12.95. It's probably too late and they're likely too indebted to make it happen now though.
