"We Don't Wanna Give Away Our Ideas' | Shark Tank AUS

Michael and Georgie, a husband and wife team, have a mission to inspire lightbulb moments globally. They have created handmade, customisable and unique floor and desk lamps that look like pencils with the electrical cord featuring as part of the design. The couple has come to the Tank demonstrating some good numbers to date and they are here asking for 90k for 15% of their company valuing the business at 600k. Currently, in 35 stockists across Australia, US, Europe, UK, and Scandinavia, will the Sharks have a lightbulb moment or aren't Michael and Georgie as switched on as they appear?

    When will these entrepreneurs figure out that; “I love what I do” and “I believe in this 110%” Does not mean anything about the success of your potential business. Also they won’t give away their ideas because they are super easy to copy. And if it sells, someone will, and they’ll do it cheaper.

  • @deltan6212

    @deltan6212

    4 жыл бұрын

    You can do it for cheaper, obviously. Their game plan is novelty room decoration. Toss in some cheap chinese labor, plastic, shitty paint, less material and etc and you can produce one of their lamps for under $100. Even so it's not unique. Cosplayers built big novelty items for costumers on the daily, with hundreds of people offering their skill to commission a piece. The only argument is the quality of the finished product.

    The problem is they don't understand business, if they want to sell this product for that ridiculous price they need to sell it as modern art. Selling this in a gallery or high in furniture store as interactive art wouldn't be hard they could probably even double the price. However their approach for this particular product is all wrong, they're trying to heavily commercialize and mass produce it. Once that happens it becomes "just a lamp" not art. That's fine too but if it's just another commercially available lamp it would need to be priced like 1 aka ~$300 tops. If they came in with the same product and pitched themselves a high end art deco business selling interactive pieces they may have gotten a deal.

    It's just a quirky lamp, and could probably do okay as a low cost gift, or a mid priced quirkly lamp, but those prices are insane. It's always funny when the sharks can't understand that there is a huge difference between telling a potential investor future product ideas, while sitting in an office or conference room, and revealing them on an tv program viewed worldwide.

    I went to business school before these types of shows existed and one entire year was dedicated to creating and pitching a product just like on shark tank. If your first semester business plan had zero salary for your team they would grill you hard on how you expect to function as an adult with no income. It's a cheap way of making your numbers look better since labor is so expensive but it's not realistic for most people.

    Shark Tank Australia has the most affable investors of the series! They always provide the viewer with information on how businesses work, all while being optimistic and patient with their guest. Also, speaking as someone living and raised in Los Angeles, everyone on this show is so attractive! Australia seems like one beautiful mixing pot! Best series hands down!

    The lamps are cool, as a graphic designer i like the esthetics... sure, but its very inefficient at what its meant to be used for... the desk-lamp's light mostly goes up because the lamp casts its own shadow onto the desk. So, probably not the best desklamp to get. 😝

    The big one is $2500 👀 Jesus. Even selling commercially, $500 would be high. It’s a nice novelty but it’s gotta be affordable. Make different lamps the resemble other items. It’s too expensive and makes it even more niche.

The 2 Ladies are just so bloody smart, yet kind and adorable, not to say beautifull, our male sharks are always kinda nice and humble, even when they decline a deal, they usually have something nice to say or advice to give.
