"You Didn't Bother Because You're Australian?" | Dragons' Den

Ойын-сауық

Australian entrepreneur Sarah Hilleary entered The Den pitching her gluten-free cake company 'B-Tempted', she piqued Tej Lalvani's interest but not before she annoyed The Den with her 'excuses' to why her products were dormant for four years whilst she filed for permanent residence... But who doesn't like a sweet treat? wink wink
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

She went from 30 to 20 and thought he would meet her in the middle I guess but she should have been sensible and realised that she only had one offer and countered with 25 which he most likely would have accepted. The dragons do bluff and outline the flaws quite often so I can see why you would think they exploit the visitors on the show but in the end you have to do your research and prepare yourself - which could be by bringing in a piece of paper with all the figures on it so you don't get nervous, its not an exam and I'm sure the dragons would understand not everyone has a brilliant memory or great at maths. She should have explained why her visa situation was a issue without the dragons even asking. She was unprepared it looks like.

Honestly the fact that Peter obviously didn't understand something that she stated pretty clearly, and then she got harassed for it annoys me a lot. And the fact that even the narrator took the dragons side and acted like she was being a piece of work.. As well as the title of the video! Geez, smh... Although truth be told I realize that we have no idea how that conversation actually went, it's definitely been edited. Conversations on reality shows are often strange and disjointed for that reason, and once you start noticing it's hard to stop.

They should be able to. I imagine its simply from a television shooting point of view. Guests fumbling through notes is probably not the best television. The flip side is if you have a definitive valuation surely you can have 5 profit figures ready and rhymed off along with the prepared pitch. Its also a guaranteed question. It seems evasive to me from entrepreneurs when they fumble over them. The best pitches and the successful ones have these figures at hand because they are the ace card of the pitch. The dragons will invest in dust of the profits are present and impressive.

@@paulmallon9292 appreciate the insight, def makes sense. But personally, I can see how this can be a high-pressure situation and someone can easily blank out. Doesn't mean they haven't got a good business/product, how does having notes take away from the value of their idea? Feels primitive.

@@IRISHBUTCHER Most likely the case. I commented elsewhere that it's most likely from a simple television point of view, contestants fumbling through notes isn't ideal from a shooting perspective. But if you're going to have a concrete valuation you should surely know profit figures. It's a guaranteed question. It does seem somewhat evasive when entrepreneurs fumble over them. They are more or less the entire pitch and if in order, can almost guarantee an investment if present and impressive.

I've watched many of these videos and learnt two things: no dragon is happy with 5% of a business and the fastest way to fail is to set a £million + valuation based on low or flat sales. I've also heard that half the deals made on the show never happen afterwards, so what you see is not what you get.

She said it was because she was Australian & Jenny explained she didnt know the state of her visa for those 4 years. Afterwards she mentions that she is now allowed to stay indefinitely on her visa. He was questioning her numbers for those years after she started off saying she was stocked in every upmarket shop in UK. Pretty simple unless you are looking to complain about 10 min clips on youtube channels then maybe this was a win for you?
