Kabir I don’t think it’s that. It’s the fact that art isn’t inherently about the money. If you can make money, that’s fantastic, but the bast majority of artists (of all types) don’t make money from it. Or, at least, they don’t make their living off of it. They just do it because they’re passionate about it, or they simply have fun doing it.

Sometimes big KZreadrs really seem out of touch with other people, and I feel like Rooster Teeth is the worst about this. Maybe it's because they are a company rather than like a single off group or person. It's not just Jon either, Gavin, Burnie, Gus, and Barbara have all said things that they don't realize that it's what other people have to deal with.Gus and Burnie sometimes will remind the other about the start of RT, but the others, who never really had to experience this or have forgotten, don't get it. Most of us who create KZread videos do it because we enjoy it. I used to film and edit short films me and my friends used to make, only uploaded like one though. I used to upload gaming videos and vlogs and I still upload music videos every so often, but I don't do it in search of fame or money, I do it because I love making this kind of stuff. I remember a few years ago, Gavin said something like, "If I ever uploaded a video that had less than 1000 views, I would delete it." And I know for him, a thousand views would mean it was a bad video or not getting a lot of traction, but I have 160 videos and only I have 5 that have passed 1000, and of that 160, 111 have 50 or less views. I have been uploading since 2010. Granted, it has never been super consistent and my first few videos I deleted, but I have been doing this for a long time. Not as a potential career but because it is something I take enjoyment out of. I would love to go back to gaming, too, but my Elgato is broken and don't have the money to get a new one. But, eventually I plan on buying another because I enjoy doing that. I would happily invest in KZread even if I don't think it would go anywhere. Edit: By the way, I hope none of this came off as me being mad or annoyed at what Jon said or Gavin, or anyone at RT. I'm not. I watch the RT podcast for their thoughts and opinions even when I have my own conflicting opinions. I just wrote this as kind of a big example for anyone who might share the same thoughts as Jon. I don't think he is wrong in his thoughts or opinion on the matter. They're plenty of people who do start uploading to KZread just for views and money, but I wanted to kind of share what it's like for the smaller uploaders who don't do it for monetary value. KZread is it's own melting pot. Not just in terms of race, nationality, gender, etc. but also in terms of why people upload.

I totally agree with you, and I found it honestly baffling that Jon couldn't understand why someone would do something without making money from it. It's the same for any hobby; whether it's making videos, painting, playing sports, sewing, writing, etc. People can make money from doing any of these things, but most just do them for the enjoyment. I think now that so many youtubers have gotten rich or at least are able to make a living, a lot of people forget that in the beginning, EVERYONE did youtube as nothing more than a hobby.

@@idgafiminfinite I think it's really weird from Jon too since his career is as an artist and designer. Did he always do that as potential career or did he start out doing it as a hobby? Who knows. I don't think Jon means anything bad by it. He seems like a great guy. You are probably right about how people view KZread now. I think it's kind of interesting the diversity of the company. Like Jon said this on this podcast, but then Jeremy on Off Topic talked about how he was capable of publishing a book because he started out writing fanfiction out of enjoyment then start writing his own book.

Gavin/Gus just use homebrew on the Mac. Apple doesn’t ship with a native package manager. Then you can easily... $ brew install telnet $ brew install wget

Guess I'm old, but there is still worth in having printed photos, whether wallet sized, desk or wall hanging. Must be too many apocalypse movies where without electricity you don't have them anymore. Digital is great for having in the cloud or on devices anywhere you are though . . . so great for book/magazines on the go.

Gus the thing about Netflix sending 5billion disc in the mail is because most of the new movies are NOT available on the streaming service at first you have to wait months for them to come to the streaming service so they are only on the mail disc service. Some movies NEVER come to the streaming service they are only available in the in the mail disc service.
