This is also why the choice of words we use to describe behavior is so important. If you describe an unwanted behavior as “pushy,” “dominant,” or “stubborn,” what you choose to do about it will be different than if you instead use words such as “anxious,” “frightened “ or “unsure”. Words do matter.

You are a phenomenologist, Warwick. You probably already know about the philosophical discipline of phenomenology. The lens through which you perceive the world needs to be taken into account always.

Yep This turned my intensely defensive biting 2yr rescue around .. also showing him I could listen to his concerns Recent adding that perspective to less than 6 training sessions to get him to self load .. I have to be careful now not to leave the float ramp and doors open when it isn’t safely hitch as he makes a focused B line and loads himself 😮 Who knew he was smarter than me 😂❤

Wow! That story❤❤❤❤. Sometimes people say a horse is being stubborn or naughty... and I just see a horse that is scared and confused. I am really looking forward to picking your brain about some certain cases at the Minnesota Horse Expo, this April 2024! Going to re-subscribe to your library. It's fantastic! I got too busy for a stretch, paused it. Ready to see what's new there! Thank you for sharing your insights.

This is the reason I refuse to suggest "solutions" for problems, without being personally present.

Interpreting the mouthyness?? as an attempt to engage eally made a difference in the relationship between my horse and me. Rubbing the muzzle drastically reduced that behavior, and now when it happens, it's done in a few seconds, and might not happen for two weeks. Thanks. I have passed that information to some other people, haven't heard how it worked for them.

No bad horses only bad riders. Its always our fault. When you accept this it all makes sense.

Warwick its winter time right now. Do you guys at the Journey On Ranch put blankets on your horses? If you don't why not? How do I get a Hat like yours? I'd like one. Your email address on the website doesn't work.
