@DrWilliamLi is a world-renowned physician-scientist and New York Times bestselling author known for his role as President and Medical Director of the Angiogenesis Foundation.
In our conversation today, we dive into the vocabulary surrounding health and microbiome-supporting foods, exploring how to measure the microbiome, the benefits of fermented foods, and the role of the appendix. We also look at pre, and post-biotics, strategies for supporting the microbiome after a colonoscopy prep, foods to avoid, immune function, and metabolic nuances, and discuss the differences between subcutaneous visceral fat, brown fat, and white fat, and polyphenol-rich beverages.
I know you will find today’s conversation with Dr. William Li as enlightening as I did. I eagerly anticipate inviting him back to the podcast later this year.
IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN:
• Dr. Li explains the importance of the gut microbiome
• The interrelationship between the microbiome, body fat, and the metabolism
• How to measure your gut microbiome
• Foods that promote gut health and support the microbiome
• The role of the appendix
• How a colonoscopy prep impacts the gut microbiome
• How excess body fat can fuel the me

WOW! I needed to hear this. As I age ( I turned 60 this year) I am gaining weight, cholesterol rising, blood pressure out of whack, hair loss, not handling life stresses, long term antidepressants (I mean 30+ years) , had hysterectomy at age 26 and started HRT (Premarin)....doing that for 30+ years. I think I'm a mess and perhaps should be in a study! This has opened my eyes about the rest of my life. I am going to be binge watching you. Thank you very much for all your work!!

The est time to start any health changes is now. Take heart---you can do it! There are lots of interviews of Dr Li on KZread as well as aTED Talk. Also if you need intensive help in person I can highly recommend Weimar Institute in northern California. I have been teaching community health and whole plant based nutrition for over forty years. I have seen so many amazing turn arounds to great health no matter the age of the person making good personal choices as they learn more.

Since my first a colonoscopy, I’ve had diverticulitis. I did not have any issue before. Subsequent ones bring on a bout of diver. The further away I get from the procedure, the less the attacks. I have decided not to have another one. It is causing me more illness than not having them.

Same for me--except more like 10 months. My PCP is head of colonoscopies in our community, so she kept pushing and pushing me solely because of my age (mid-50s), no symptoms, just screening. I finally gave in and it took many months for me to get my gut back in order. My digestion has been so screwed up from that. Pain after eating, nausea, slow movement of bowels, bloating....Never Again will I give in to a colonoscopy unless I have actual concerning symptoms and reasons to do it to myself. Because there is a price to pay.

Main new points PS28 bacteria for pd , fat accumulation is the cause of slow metabolism not the other way round. Loss fat first. The problem is how? It is difficult for many obese people. Many causes. This is what we have to teach , simple basic cheap principles like fasting, exercising, sleeping well, dealing with stress ( how) . This is summary up to 1:06,hours listening. This is great information I've been down all these different rabbit holes in frustrated trying to figure out how to heal this gut. I know I have leaky gut, Not to mention believe premenopausal at 48, inflammation, edema, and MS, so my body is a wreck as well, and I'm trying my best to figure out the right combination of food to heal this thing. I kind of know all the processed food is bad, but between intermittent fasting when I should cut my window, and exact things that will continue to heal my gut is mind-boggling. But I so thankful for this valuable information. I will keep pressing forward the best I can. 🙏🏽💜

It seems that pesticides etc harm your microbes. Pretty sure a graph of pesticide/herbicide use and IBS diagnosis would be pretty much parallel. Studies have shown that you are more likley to be obese if your grandparents were exposed to DDT. Which they still use in third world countries btw...
