Just because you bought the car New in 2014 doesn’t mean the tires were made and put onto the car in 2014. They were probably sitting in a warehouse for a few months in 2012 before going to the manufacture who made the car in 2013

How about spare tires, when to replace? Don't hear too much about people replacing those. Mine is almost 20 years old, in the trunk.

KJ Every tire, including spares, have a manufacture date code, such as 1715. This would be the 17th week of 2015. It's recommended that even if a tire shows all signs of being ok, you should still replace them once 6 years after the manufacture date.

I would say 10 years on a spare that is inside the car and protected from sun and dirt. But I don’t know of a specific recommendation from an OEM about it.

same with me, my 1999 5 series has a spare tyre from 1998, The tyre place said as a spare it's fine, and just treat it like having a space saver as the grip levels will be similar, and get your normal tyres back on as quickly as possible

I understand that rubber has oils that get tend to spread around when you flex it. Not sure if this applies to tires. It could be the reason why sneakers that are left in the shelf have soles that break apart while sneakers of the same age that you constantly use tend to have pliable, albeit worn, soles.

The worst is when someone is selling an older collector vehicle, maybe 30 years old, and the tires are only the second set, let’s say they’re 20 years old. But the asking price might be $20k. I’m gonna offer $400-700 less so I can put on a fresh set immediately. Not to mention a full “tune up”. Anyway, 7 years old is the industry standard for replacement, regardless of mileage. The tire carcass is compromised by then.

Hey Brian, I recently bought a 2004 Jaguar X-type with only 38,000 miles on the clock. Jaguar states that the transmission fluid does not need to be changed at all. My concern is that although it is a low mileage car, does the transmission fluid need to be replaced after 15 years? That goes to the accessory belt and other parts of the car that "mileage wise" need no change yet (according to the service book), but "time wise" should they be changed after 15 years regardless of the mileage?

  • @syedhashimraza4521

Don't be cheap on tires, it's more expensive to get towed if you get a blow out and cause an accident. Years ago I saw a mini truck of some handyman blow out a rear tire on a truck and swerve 3 lanes to the center divider taking out a motorcycle.

If you haven't worn the tyre out in 10 years is it worth the expense of keeping the car? AND you don't wait until it's Bald, virtually every car manufacturer recommends changing at 3 mm.
