The Norwegian word for the knight is "horse" (hest) or "jumper" (springer). The Bishop is "runner" (løper). Rook is tower (tårn). Pawn is farmer (bonde). The other pieces have the same sort of names as their English counterpart.

I saw that too, in the last clip, and it makes the dad in me smile. You can see he's Kasparov's wearing a reserved smile the whole time he's speaking to Magnus. He's teaching a young savant and he knows it, and he looks like he's proud to help.

They did spend about six months working together a few years later, stopping because Garry's teaching style was too rigorous for Magnus, who prefers interest/inspiration/play to focused study. It would be interesting to know how good Magnus would be if he had Garry's discipline. Would he be better, or worse?
@notagiraffe2867
Жыл бұрын
@@kimaboe I know this is an old comment but I have an answer for you, it is highly likely that Magnus would be worse, not by much but he wouldn’t have the edge he has over other super GMs, he relies on his intuition to know when to attack and defend and play passively, that cannot be taught but it can be untaught, which it likely would be under a rigorous study based learning approach

Just a thought. I know it was a few decades ago, but is there any chance the clocks were hooked up to the board? It would be super cool to see the clock times on the side, and be able to see how much each player had left after each move (like lichess shows in the analysis board after a game). Maybe an idea for future game analysis (of more modern games). And maybe a little square in the corner of the video with just the time control of the game shown, so we know that as well. Cheers Gotham, keep growing the game and helping us noobs!
