Penn sending you out a reel is awesome!

Congratulations on the reel JC! You deserve it my man! I have watched your channel for over 4 years now and seen you use reels like the Penn Pursuit. Ozark Trail, and other budget reels. You still caught truckloads of fish with them! I bought my Pursuit III 4000 after watching so many of your videos where you were using it and how much you liked it. Well that Authority is quite the bonus; well deserved! One of the main reasons I continue to watch you is that you have Ugly Stiked your way to success and always paired it with an affordable reel. I’ve been a Penn guy for over 30 years and never been disappointed. Some years ago I had a friend in a pricey trout tourney on the White River (Arkansas); format was 3 persons per boat - 2 anglers and 1 guide. Jason ended up in the money and recounted how the other very disgruntled anger stated while disembarking “ I can’t believe I lost to a guy with an Ugly Stik!” Good luck with the new reel.

I would be excited to if I was given a $500.00 reel...congrats......well deserved.

The most expensive reel I own is a Penn conflict 2 in 4000. That's my "top shelf" reel. Lol I love it, but I also have a $50 Cadence reel that keeps up just fine, so it just goes to show you don't need the expensive stuff at all. It's definitely nice to have, though. 😎👍

Amazing reel inhave the slammer 4 2500 great reel

Beautiful reel, a bit above my price range given I fish on public piers and bridges. Still have a pair of 1995 Penn 4400SS reels that I love but one has a bad drag and one has a faulty anti-reverse, hard to find a good repairman these days. Probably watch a few KZread videos and fix them myself. I did fix one once with a part I got off Ebay.

I have some penn reels including torque 1st gen. This one looks even better , there’s another mile for penn to compete hard against the best out there , shimano n daiwa , the rotor n spool badly in need for good revision design

I’m at the dura drag that’s on the slammer and authority

Even if they're free. I dont like the large door handles they are putting on some of these reels. Not even rubber but metal knobs. Hope they start making handle options to change these out.

Line choices are determined by the distance needed to cast, the surrounding structure you're fishing and the size fish you will be targeting.

I bought 4 of 2500 to compare to my Shimano Stella's. They compare favorably to the Stella's. I am curious to see how the stand up to Giant Trevally.

JC I have Penn Slammers both broken bails throwing large swim baits or Jigs. Really hard to find a good repair person in Stuart. I will now buy Diawa BG or Penn battle 3 , when break, throw away and repeat . I fish four days a week only for snook. Won’t pay 450 for a Penn . Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

So you're telling me this is better than the penn torque 2. Damn it!! I told that damn rep to give me their top of the line and I get a crappie torque 2

I use Ugly Stik rods a lot. Check out my newest one here www.uglystik.com.au/product/ugly-stik-carbon-inshore/ The GX2, Inshore Select, Elite and new Carbon Inshore models are all great fits for this reel. The longer the rod the further you'll be able to cast...Thanks for watching.

I still have that combination, but haven't used it much in the past couple of years.

Shimano Spheros is IPX8 and is $150.

It took them long enough!!!. Enjoy...

I'm going to be that guy, despite penn claiming it can be submerged underwater for "30" minutes with out water getting in. I still wouldn't trust it, most of the time its marketing. but if I want to fish under water with a reel I got my van staals for that since its actually designed for it.. I still have Penn reels but I just don't trust them as much anymore. too many broken pinon gears/bad main gears out of the box.

JC, you're a seasoned fisherman. You should know your reels and parts inside out and how to service and repair them. The main parts are the main shaft, crown wheel and pinion, main bearings. Your drag system is important.also and must be maintained as well. A good reel is only as good as the person using it. A good fisherman can use a cheap reel just as efficient. Penn has a reputation and is well made, however they are grossly overpriced. Most people who buy them, it's just a status thing and they can't fish or catch fish worth a damn. That is a nice reel you got there and I'm sure you are going to put it to good use. Although they claim it's sealed, before using it, open it up yourself, oil and grease all surfaces where water can penetrate just as a precaution. Just because they claim it can be submerged up to 9 feet for 30 mins, please don't try it. Now go forth and catch many big fish

The penn Torque is one notch up from that one bud sorry too tell ya.
