You will LOVE this Georgian town! Kutaisi medieval cathedrals, soviet mosaics & futuristic buildings

Recently I traveled to Kutaisi, it is third-most populous city in Georgia. I didn't expect that my experience in this city would be so diverse. Today we will see medieval cathedrals and futuristic buildings, take buses and some other modes of transportation, and my favorite part: delve into the local street art scene, from graffiti to USSR-era mosaics. I am so excited to share my impressions with you!

Don't worry about vlogging about Georgia as a non-local. Your audience wants to see these places through your eyes. That is more important for most viewers than watching someone local who perhaps could be more accurate or authentic in a way. Your viewers are here for you. As long as you stay true to yourself, everything will be fine. ;)

Yes, indeed, the people within countries may not see what outsiders can see. It's a bit like fish 🐠 wondering what the big hoopla about water 🌊 is. France had connections in the mid-19th century to both the U.S.A. and the Russian Empire. The French Historian, Alexis De Tocqueville, wrote the classic book called "Democracy in America" after his travels. Were he an American, he would probably have missed many of his observations. It's easier to see contrasts when one has a foreign paradigm to compare with. I, for example, was perplexed why New York vendors broke out the sales tax as a separate item on purchase receipts but where I came from, a 1-HK$ item cost exactly 1-HK$. In New York, I couldn't buy a 99¢ item with 1 US$ ! 😮

Based on all I know; Georgia is just a new Russia. They made the LGBT holiday into a hetero, so called family homophobia holiday. Screw Georgia. There is no parent as strong as an good Independent mother. Just ask any african mom of any nation. African mothers are the strongest ever. They need no man to raise a good child. Despite it be better to have 2 parents. Also Georgia imitates the same drug laws russia has banning, pain meds like cannabis and poppies. Plus their new spy law which targets ppl like natasha. You need a new better home, natasha. If I can help I will...but never intrude. I'm 2 poor 2...lol

According to the esthetics of peoples who have long-lived in disaster- or disease-prone areas, a little brokenness, a little ugliness, or a little flaw just shy of perfection helps "ward off the jealousy of the gods." When my Dad first stayed home for a prolonged period of time, I figured out his dialect and I was called 『小豬玀』or "the little pig." This called for an explanation from my Mom. She said that it was "a term of endearment" because in his waterborne disease-prone ancestral hometown, people call their beloved children with domesticated animal names in order to avoid the gods overhearing niceties, becoming jealous, and taking away the beloved children. Yeah, that explains why I had neighborhood children who were called 『阿狗』 (the dog)『阿貓』(the cat)『阿豬』 (the pig)『阿牛』(the bull), etc. The Japanese also have this kind of esthetics.

Yes , I very much agree. Tho I sensed that Natasha was not entirely happy with much of the decay and self-inflicted suffering earned by the lack of initiative of so many who she was living with back in the Yeah Russia days. I once described Yeah Russia to my therapist ending with … “but she is so Russian. Every thing has at least three levels of meaning.” Maybe she has occasionally struggled with that last level of meaning living in a foreign, authoritarian country as a refugee.

@@KA-yw7hr Georgia is south of the Caucasus so indeed, it is *technically* Asia. But nonetheless as an orthodox nation facing the black sea its cultural heritage is influenced by Greek and Bizantine culture. In that sense the country "feels" european, and in basically all the fields from lifestyle to architecture, it is a mixture of Greek and eastern europe. So ok, geographically it is Asia but can be totally considered part of European culture, history and heritage.

Hi Natasha, You really seemed to like Kutaisi a lot. Would you prefer to live in Tblisi or Kutaisi? The Mosaics and street art are beautiful. I wonder if it would be possible to take pictures of all of the artworks that you encounter during your travels and have them printed onto t-shirts that you could list on your KZread channel? This video reminded me a lot of when you would walk around your hometown in your first videos. Thanks for sharing your travel adventures and best wishes always.

Thankyou so much for this... I have been to Georgia four times and made a journey to Kutaisi last visit. It was very, very wet and I had set aside 8 days. After 3 days of very heavy rain I gave up and flew out to Cyprus for 4 days. You have restored my faith in a return for a future time. And this was an amazing blog. And the fruit on the palm tree looked like unripe dates.

I love how thoughtful, thorough, and meaningful You made this video. 💖 I moved to Tbilisi from Florida in 2022. I Love it here! I haven't explored much yet, 1) because I live on SSDI and 2) because I just turned 60... but I plan on seeing more of this Amazing country this summer. I recently moved from Didi Dighomi to Varketili, and the air is so clean here 1) because it's a higher elevation and 2) because there are so many trees. You are Loved Natasha! 💖✨ Hope to run into You on your journeys one day.

This is one of the best travel vlogs I have ever seen. Most vloggers just go to the same tourist hot spots, but I feel like you really showed us the city. You have a great eye for finding interesting things. Sad to see the state of those old mosaics

Thanks for sharing your 'off the beaten track adventures' in Kutaisi. The local food looked nice, and the public transport system appears to be efficient. Some of the street artists are very talented! I also enjoyed seeing the abandoned buildings, and interesting scenery. It's great that you are 'at one with nature'. 👍

You Georgians need to end your fascist spy laws which would stop natasha from monetizing her media, and your draconian drug laws which forbid all doctor prescribed pain killers n other important pharmacy medications. Get out of the Russian shadow of the stone ages. Natasha deserves better than your Russian look alike.

It's great to travel with you again Natasha. My goodness - you are good at this sort of video. Kutaisi looks like a very nice, though not perfect, city to visit. I enjoyed the birds (as always - loved the pigeons) and your description of how peaceful you felt while at the old church/cathedral. Well done.

When I was in Georgia in 2019, our group had split flights. Some flew directly to Tbilisi, and others flew to Kutaisi with a different airline and stayed there overnight before we rejoined on the next day. They said, it was a very pleasant experience.

Wow Kutaisi has such a quaint and peaceful vibe to it, the hills and mountains surrounding it are incredible and the city really shows its soviet past with much of the architecture. It's crazy to think it's been here for millenniums, but has remained so small. I hope the government makes more of an effort to maintain its historical landmarks in the future, the city deserves it

That was very interesting Natasha. When I first saw that huge glass building, I first thought is it a stadium, or a botanical garden, but to find out it's a redundant government structure, just wow! What a waste. All the sights are interesting. I thought of you when I saw the protests on the TV news a while back and wondered if you were going to be showing something about it. I hope it works out ok.
