You were SENT to this Russian city if you misbehaved! IRKUTSK, SIBERIA

Exploring Irkutsk, one of Siberia's most interesting and historical cities.
HISTORY LESSON!
In Saint Petersburg in December 1825, a group of nobles revolted against the Tsarist rule in Russia at the time. Well, this failed and many of these 'Decemberists' were executed and many others were banished to Siberia and told never to return to European Russia, in particular to the area that became Irkutsk. This city became an exile post these distinguished but troublesome 'revolters'.
Irkutsk's historic centre is incredibly beautiful and a great example of early Siberian architecture. It is even on the list to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We were in Irkutsk in 1998 to adopt our daughter Katrina. We had her first birthday in the ex-Intourist Hotel on the river and stayed there about 2 weeks. In December. It looks so modern now! Met some great people there, our little girl is 25 now. That part of Russia will always have a special place in our hearts. Thanks so much for the tour, and sharing it. Spasibo!

@@HamzaShams_ probably because of all the abortions in the west made it difficult to adopt a child. And Russia made it much easier at that time.

My husband and I are thinking of doing something really different from our Southern California routine by getting an apartment in Helsinki, in January, for a month and just living the winter life. We are also thinking of going up to Rovaniemi to spend a couple of days/nights. First, do you think we’re mad for trying to vacation there in winter and second, will we be as cold as you were in this video?

As life here gets bleak, you give hope that something of value will continue. May your journey continue to be blessed! We here in the west are to experience further depravity, destitution and deprivation that is the substances and legacy of communist values. I fear for our people and way of life.
