You Wanted Tire Wear… DBC with Tyler Reddick and Dale Jr.
Спорт
The crew of Door Bumper Clear is joined by bossman Dale Jr. and Tyler Reddick to break down the Bristol race. The group discusses if the different teams had similar tire problems in practice, and dissects the unpredictability of the race. Was NASCAR right to allow teams an extra set of tires? Did experience play a key part in who finished up front?
Is this the best NASCAR Cup season we’ve had in years?

Just black flag Carson instead of throwing a caution.

That is what i was saying during that whole "They should(n't) have thrown a yellow!" argument part. Black flag a driver that does something sketchy and move on, no need for a yellow.
You know that state trooper that everyone on the interstate is following right at the speed limit? That’s Dale Jr to Brett

If Hocevar was THAT egregious, NASCAR should’ve black flagged him and mandated him to the pits instead of throwing a caution. Shows him he’s gotta get his ass off the track without punishing everyone else

👍💯 It wasn't so egregious. There's enough spotters to make sure drivers avoid him.

I absolutely loved that race yesterday. That was so much fun to watch. Take that tire to Phoenix in November. Phoenix may actually be fun to watch if they did. Finally a good short track race wirh this car. It just proved what fans and everyone else has been yelling for the last couple of years

But too much caution. I’m a bad one for overall viewing. I don’t like when my driver doesn’t get a top 10. Did Blaney get Chastained after speeding penalty? I like more than 5 cars on lead lap.
The last cycle was crazy, there was so much going you could barely keep up. Watching Denny and Martin go through the field was amazing! It reminded me of an old game called Digital Derby that I had.

This tire and package on the car makes Bristol look like a good place for the clash
You can’t compare a spring race to a fall race! Also THIS IS THE FIRST SPRING RACE AT BRISTOL WITH THIS CAR!!!! Maybe the reson had something to do with it, maybe the cold track did. Proves that there isn’t enough actual on track testing in multiple environments! BTW, this was a Great race!!!!
Somebody tell these guys that this was the same tire from the Bristol race last fall.
I had to watch this episode for sure just to getta laugh & hear about yesterdays race 😂
Awesome dam race. Been watching since 94 and thought that was the best Bristol race I have ever seen. Crazy the track never took rubber. next Gen car has never been raced at Bristol in March unless it was dirt. Think outdoor temp had something to do with it as well as the resin. Also this was already the same tire compound that was run last fall Bristol, only 2 differences. Resin/temperature. Pj1 in the fall, warmer temps, resin this spring, temps in the 60s.
Best podcast in the sport. Hands down
CAN SOMEONE EDIT THIS WHOLE EPISODE INTO ONE THAT HIS VIDEO FLASHBACKS!?!? This is the best episode I ever heard ❤ Tyler Reddick is a REAL 1️⃣ blue jacket in his future. Dale Jr. is so freaking intelligent when he talks about the sport I learn so much!! & Freddie Kraft is such a badass. I listen to him every week spotting Bubba on the nascar app scanner !! Freddie’s voice in the podcast always makes me feel safe😊 but his laugh is contagious 😂😂😂😂😂 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁 definitely best Actions Detrimental for me this week! This show is poppin!! Denny better step his game up. 😅
Been waiting on this episode all day longggg 🎉
I live in Dallas Texas but I sure remember watching The Glory Days on TV and have always wanted to go to a night race at Bristol. After yesterday's race, I immediately booked a ticket to the night race this year. The way to make people come back to races is to give the racers challenges to solve. If you take away all the challenge nobody's going to care about going to the race. Since I have family in Atlanta I also have a reason to maybe go to the Atlanta race next time as well. It's not that fans don't have the disposable income. NASCAR just hasn't been given us to a reason to go. I really hope they embrace the drama that's created by annoying things for the racers to have to deal with. It's what makes being a fan fun. I'm just one guy look into add two more races to my calendar this year now. But there are hundreds of thousands of people like me that could go to more races if you give me a reason. You can generate more attendance by making the racing more entertaining and less cookie cutter. It really is that simple. The formula is simple. Give me something entertaining to watch, and all your fans will come to more races.
I love the new paint schemes/wraps. Even college football changes uniforms nearly every game.
Fall Bristol race is going to be so interesting to see what changes drivers make. Playoff drivers will especially be gearing up. Really looking forward to it.
This was one best shows guys. Great job, loved it.
We love you Dale!!!
This was a real fun episode!
Denny mentioned about the temperature of the track being less than 70 degrees to probably why the track didn't rubber up
I watched NASCAR for 15-20 years growing up until the playoff format came about and that chased my dumb, stubborn ass off for years. Don't know what it was that made me want to get back into it this year out of all the years but I couldn't have picked a better time to do it. The racing is so good and between DBC, Dale Jr Download and Denny's podcast, I've got the bug so bad I want to watch the Cup, Xfinity, Trucks and even ARCA cars as much as possible, I even had to buy myself a wheel to keep myself entertained during the week. Whatever NASCAR put in my water, please keep it coming!
This was a great episode!
Loved watching the race on Sunday where the driver made a HUGE difference behind the wheel in the way they attacked the track/saved their stuff. Best case situation, to me at least, give the drivers 750 hp w/a tire that can go 70-90 laps & go test at Bristol & Dover. Get your concrete combination semi-set & put the drivers in a great spot to decide the races & not allow the cars to dictate so much of the outcome.
my favorite podcast each week!
Spot on Brett. We stopped going because prices are high and we get too little on track product. Period
Reddick is the most relatable, likeable driver. Always love hearing from him.
Rough Sunday Brett? Pounding the water to ya!!!! Love the show folks! 🍻
To your point, today's drinking game phrase is "To your point"
First 2 races this year the drivers were saving fuel and Sunday they were in tire saving mode. Crazy season so far.

when they made multi compound tires 5 years ago and made outside of the tread tougher. Maybe they can do that to this tire.

Tyler is already preparing for life after Nascar! He will be very adept at it!
Take that tire to every short track…. That was awesome…. the track was cold ….. Bristol fall was in September that’s like 20° difference..

I was working for Goodyear racing tire (Comp Tire West) during that Indy tire fiasco. NASCAR had to throw cautions or someone was going to get hurt or die. Like Jr said, the tires literally were done after 11 (basically 40 corners) laps. This was also during the inner liner days and for some reason the inner liners were not allowing drivers to save the car once the tire went. I have never worked harder than that Sunday.

What were some of the things you had to do that made it so hard?
@philsonnenberg6092
4 ай бұрын
@@sethcarlisle7330 It was nasty hot and humid. There were 42(or 43 don't remember) cars in the field. Cars had heavy steel wheels then. So, all in one tire/wheel was nearly 80lbs. We had plans to mount/balance 10 sets for each team the entire weekend. Once it was decided to throw a caution every 10 laps, well you do the math. Most teams(that were running at the end) used 14 sets of tires just for the race. Normal races we had break between mounting and balancing since each team had normally 6-8 sets of wheels. This day it was NONE STOP the entire day.
Everyone has been saying tires for years and now NASCAR has the evidence to prove it. I would still say they need to narrow them, but this is a great start
Could watch Brett giggle forever.
It was fun watching a race with so many lead changes. A bit chaotic, ya.

I think they missed a big part of the tire wear conversation and that was the air/track temp was way down..
@claychamlee884

That was my thought.
Goodyear still says it's the same right side tire that ran last fall at Bristol. Hopefully they do thorough failure analysis on the compound to see if some of the variables were at different places within the spercification compared to last fall.
@johnhaas2523

I think the colder track conditions had a lot to do with it
I’m surprised that the weather hasn’t been a bigger piece of the conversation.. I think the only place I’ve really heard talk about the weather/temperature as a factor is Denny’s podcast. Everyone’s talking about the tire (same as fall), resin/pj1, etc, but it seems like being sub 65 degrees makes a big difference on if the concrete rubbers ups. Maybe I’m wrong, but the way I see it you could test as much as you want, but the weather is not a constant factor/fixed variable.
Freddie is completely correct with his argument about the caution. All he needed to add was that when the yellow is out, NASCAR can just penalize the hell out of the guilty party (Hocevar this time). That way, safety is prioritized while the behavior is not incentivized.
Thanks for stopping by Drew Carey 😊
These were the same tires as last Fall the difference was the track was significantly colder than last Fall.
the resin might have made the right side tires do all the work. 2 tire pit stops was not terrible. the way the corners looked with the tires dribbling is really tough on the right sides.
28:26 honestly for a 500 lap race, having to put every 50-60 laps kept the race exciting. Maybe even better than stage cautions do!🧐
The lighting is making Dale's glasses look like sunglasses. Kinda makes him look like DB Cooper lol
There are some pretty significant differences between Indy and Bristol. Key among them in this case, the extra 2 miles and 100 MPH at Indy. The Indy "bad tire" race was terrible. Yesterday at Bristol was AMAZING. Totally disagree with TJ on the Carson Hocevar caution/lack of situation. The fear that these cars running 115 hitting a car running 35 is any more dangerous that Ryan Blaney getting right reared into the wall at 195 seems a little nuts to me. They didn't need to throw a caution for Carson Hocevar. They need to park his ass for intended race manipulation.
Hey Freddie, how fast was Hocevar going? Never have to guess your thoughts. Things are so black & white for you. Love it.

great race! change nothing. they'll all learn form the 1st one and the next one will be different.
Lots of passing, It was more like I don't have any tires left so Im just going to have to coast around here and let others cars run in to me.
Better than the download
I sold my RV last year because there is no reason to go to the races anymore. Lomg ago my season tickets to Bristol were treasured. But been many years since I have gone.
Kevin & Clint is a great addition to the #FOX booth ! You can tell their friends , pretty awesome 🤘🏻🏁
If someone ran into Carson and someone got injured they'd be having a very different conversation about that
Dale Jr spinning himself out to get a caution comes to mind
They say that this was the same tire from the fall race. That being said, some though the chemical put on the inside line cause the issues. That being said, some said that there was more wear on the outside groove. Some said that there were some drivers had the actual tire from the fall race and some had a new tire that supposedly matched exactly that from the fall race. I follow Ty Gibbs in car radio, they seemed to think that as the track cooled tire wear was getting better to their great demise. I was hoping Goodyear went out and ran tests the same night. We may never know.
@Cyty54

Beyond that. Ty maintained his front position with a 2 tire stop in stage one and midway through the 2nd stage after a mistake penalty on pit road; drove from 27th to the top 10 on scuffs.

Denny Hamlin said no because of cost
they need a way to collect the marbles better like truck pulling a hot lint roller to pick em up like a hot tire does.
Larson doesn't get that pit penalty, he had something for them but i think he was a second place car. Still would have made it more interesting to see him push Denny and Martin harder
👍🏻
Freddie is 100% correct period. If NASCAR cares about safety, they should throw a caution at any dangerous point. There should be a consistent threshold and it shouldn't be thrown under that threshold and it shouldn't remain green above that threshold. Penalizing an intentional cause of a caution by parking a car for multiple laps is a good solution as a deterrent.
i gotta give credit where credit is due nascar did a damn good job and not getting caution happy with the crazy going on that race.. great race control that race. normally they suck! imo. fred needs to chill on those cautions.
During Dale Jr time in Nascar they would throw water bottles out the window for cautions, So sorry Dale you're point is mute
Was there a minimum speed for Bristol?

With tire wear back we can get rid of stage racing.
Nobody is talking about horsepower, nice move NASCAR
Cindric had a bad day because I had him in my fantasy!!! 🤔
I agree with black flagging the driver. The car should be built to where it takes driver skill to win.
