This song performed by Carole King and James Taylor is to make you cry! This letter is pure poetry and sensitivity, typical of the genius James Taylor. I think I heard this song for the first time when I was about 12 or 13 years old, I believe that the end of the 60's and even today, when I listen, I get a strong emotion! How good music was made then! This Baldwin piano crying in the background is killing ... Thank you for everything, James, Carole, you are irreplaceable ... Who never needed a friend shoulder to cry on? Paul Pecchio, from S. Paulo, Brazil.

From a woman who broke through an almost invisible glass ceiling. It is difficult to describe a woman who wrote some of the best Urban rock of the 60's and then moves into a more upper middle class public acceptance. Perhaps she was 'marketed' differently as Jews moved into the middle class. However that history does not explain her beautiful music and her brilliant musicianship and genius as a composer! She is a brilliant musician and a beautiful performer. She is ageless.

No . Back in the day , writers were given assignments and listened to a " sound " , or songs already recorded by a group . The writers task was to write the next hit . The writer was a commodity contracted by the publisher . When Carol had a big enough ' Catalog ' of different material they often took the big risk of stepping out from behind the studio . For Carol , that came when she opened for James Taylor after he took off with "You've Got A Friend " , which she wrote for him . This was a step she took before " Tapestry " was released .

Carol King was writing and singing songs since the 50's. Neil Sedaka even wrote "Oh Carol" for her in 1958 in an effort to ask her out, so she wasn't up and coming in the 70's. She was famous since she hit the stage in the 50's.
@scotswanderer

Revolver Den A few points: Her first single, 'The right girl' came out in 58. She was only 16, & it wasn't a hit. She became famous as a songwriter with her husband, Gerry Goffin, in the 60s, but not as a singer until 'Tapestry' in 71. Neil sedaka, had already dated her, in high school, when 'O Carol' came out. She married G. Goffin the next year, 59.

She's fantastic as always, in this song she's superlative. The look towards Taylor is that of a woman still attached to him and it doesn't just seem like artistic admiration given that they worked together and, at the time, also had a flirtation. He alongside her in this song, today as then, is completely overwhelmed.

What can I say but, you will really understand this song when, you really have a "friend".
One of the most beautiful songs written sung by icons in the industry....
Nothing but pure class!
My love, admiration & wholehearted respect for these two gifts from God cannot be overstated....❤️✝
This song got me through a bunch of years. And then i would play a James Taylor song and keep driving across the country knowing deep down inside that it would all work out....and now that was 50 years ago.
My favorite song . And He is a great singer.
James, Carole, what a good couple ! beautiful song ! wow !
You both make me so happy. Songs of love, peace, and passion.

I Feel the Earth Shake under My Feet!! Thank You Carol and JT for Your Music!! Your Longevity Rocks
We've all been there. Sometimes music like this is the friend you need.
To my friends, Darryl, Henry, Clifton, Freddie, Dominic, Tony , Bede and Georgie. Takes me back down memory lane to the early 70s, day dreaming these tunes, all beauties. God Bless You, James Taylor, Carole King and of course, 'No Secrets - Carly Simon'
The strangest & greatest thing about these two is that they sound the same so many moons later...Their relationship is a magical friendship... The talent is just amazing, when they collaborate it's pure beauty for the ears..

Agreed… Pure Musical Magic❤️❤️
Convincing soulmates, with an embracing bandstand. A pleasure ☺
Gorgeous, true friendship sung by 2 of the most amazing artists of the 70's. It's so good to see that they're both going strong. long may it continue.
This is my all time favorite with Carole King .
CAROL KING & JAMES TAYLOR HAVE THE BEST RENDITION OF THIS SONG
Discovering the music, the vibe, the unmistakable voice.." I've seen the biggest music (real)stars/groups, luckily. Seeing JT when I was 18/19, was unforgettable & in my Top 3, all-time favourite gigs... JT, The Eagles, Dylan. Still playing the three's timeless, masterpieces.... Simply on a different level....
Absolutely brilliant! - Two of my favourite people...
It takes a great girl to call out to a male to ensure thru winter summer or fall they remain friends. Go Carol King it's Your Song and great that James Taylor is now supporting you. Go Girl Carol your voice and your right and yeah James T is finally backing you.
It keeps me alive love it 🥰
Great full respect to this LADY..SHES THE BEST FOR ME....ITS BRING BACK MY MEMORIES SINCE 70'S...
March 15 2024 and I'm here for it.. Again ❤
Its so good to see these two performing together still. Brings back a lot of good memories.
Im Glad to have a Friend in you
I remember this song my dad playing this on weekends. When we had barbecue. Good memories😢😭
I've met this tune on 40 years ago. And I learned a lot, for my life. Thanks Carole, Thanks James. I love this tune. From Japan.
what an incredibly beautiful woman
With her power and magnetism it's difficult to think she wa ever reluctant to take the stage singing her wonderful music. Thank God she changed her mind!
Just beautiful when they sing together at the end. Just beautiful.

It went so well that they did three nights of collaborations nearly two years later that became a PBS special and live album and then a world tour.
Two great singers performing this beautiful song. Carole and James are amazing!
Love you "Carol" "Love you "James ".... You both have gotten me through life with your wonderful and inspirational music always so much I have shared im life through the years ...while your music was playing Your both the most deserving of such an amazing honor for what you have Given to us through the years ..... God Bless Both of your Beautiful Souls .... For where you lead....I will follow ...
Nothing says better than this version!
People can be so cold, they'll hurt you, and desert you, and they'll steal your soul if you let them but don't you let them😍
This song got me through law school. They tried to tell us we knew more than anyone else did about anything. Many times I listened to this and sang along--"They'll take your soul if you let them, but don't you let them."
I am almost crying hearing this song, especially when James Taylor appears
Both had a big impact on my life, like musicians hope, with their words. Got through some breakups and found others, thank you!
I cannot think of a better song in my lifetime.
her voice is still amazing
Amazing...there just isn't music and lyrics like that anymore... absolutely brilliant!!!
thank you for the beautiful songs you've composed and sang...it will eternally live in our hearts...
Que Bella. I love Carole King, no matter what this Awesome woman has been through, she is not bitter, and has so much love in her heart! God Bless!
I love this song Thank you Carol for this great song
Nothing ever touched me in my life more than the loving friendship ot these two most marvelous human beings. I just love both of them for what they contributed not only to music, but to the American lifestyle, and they just did it so easily, by just being who they are. Simply Magic.
My tears drop. I love James and Carol. I used to sing James songs. With my 🎸 guitar

Anyone who has ever needed a friend should think of this song! I was at a concert in West Hartford, CT in the early 70's where James introduced an up and coming musical star and I guess he was right ! She is a stellar star!

Carol King was writing and singing songs since the 50's. Neil Sedaka even wrote "Oh Carol" for her in 1958 in an effort to ask her out, so she wasn't up and coming in the 70's. She was famous since she hit the stage in the 50's.

Come on, tears! Great memories! Love it!

It is so brilliant 👏 ❤
She's fantastic as always, in this song she's superlative. The look towards Taylor is that of a woman still attached to him and it doesn't just seem like artistic admiration given that they worked together and, at the time, also had a flirtation. He alongside her in this song, today as then, is completely overwhelmed.
This is a song of hope and faith, it reflects all that is worthwhile. Carole King and James Taylor are great.
