James Taylor & Carole King - You've Got A Friend (BBC In Concert, 11/13/71)
Музыка
In this restored footage of "James Taylor In Concert," James performs @TheCaroleKing's classic song, "You've Got a Friend" on the popular @BBC series "In Concert" on November 13, 1971. James is joined by Carole King on piano, Leland Sklar on bass and Russ Kunkel on percussion.
In 1971, Carole released her album "Tapestry" and James released "Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon." "You've Got a Friend" appeared on both albums and James's single of the song reached #1 on the Billboard 100 and #4 on the UK Singles Chart. Both albums won Grammy Awards for the song (Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Song of the Year). Carole has said that she wrote "You've Got a Friend" in response to this lyric in James's song "Fire and Rain": "I've seen lonely times when i could not find a friend".
"In Concert" was produced by the BBC in the early '70s and featured performances from legendary acts of the time.

LYRICS
You've Got a Friend - by Carole King
When you’re down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothing
Oh, nothing is going right
Just close your eyes and think of me
Yes, and soon I will be there
To brighten up
Oh, even your darkest nights
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running
To see you again
It’s winter, spring, summer or fall
Now all you got to do is call on me
And I will be there, yeah, yes, I’ll be there
You’ve got a friend
If the sky high above you
Should grow dark and full of clouds
And that old cold north wind
Should begin to blow
Just keep your poor head together now
And call my name out loud, you know
Pretty soon
I’ll be knocking on your door
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running
To see you again
It’s winter, spring summer or fall
Really, all you got to do is call
And I’ll be there
You know I’ll be there
Oh, ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend
When people can be so cold
They’ll hurt you, yes, and desert you
Well, they’ll take your soul if you let them
But don’t you let them
You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I’ll come running like as fast as I can
To see you again
Oh, yes, don’t you know about that
Winter, spring, summer or fall
Oh, all you’ve got to do is call
And I will be there
Yeah, yes, I’ll be there
You’ve got a friend
You’ve got a friend
Ain’t it good to know that you’ve got a friend
Walking and talking and everything friend
Well, I said everybody here tonight in Pittsfield
No matter how low you may go sometimes
Ought to take some consolation in one thing, oh, yeah
Ain’t it good to know
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You’ve got a friend

How humble is Carole ....she wrote the song ,but lets her friend James take the credit . James had been going through crisis with his addiction. She offered him the song to cover and release before she released it on her album! He got the accolades .....Now ain't that a friend ...? 💖

He would say mom you know you always have a friend in me. We played this song at his funeral. I miss him so much!! I know he is with Jesus now.

Indeed but this is how it goes, both good and evil become more complex and sophisticated, we just have to learn to retrieve the good stuff we lost along the way:-)! We're all evolving in the eternal dance of light and darkness of the Universe.
Little did the both of them know how influential they would be in the history of music
I love how at the start Carole looks over him with such a warm, caring and loving way. There's no words to describe her influence on music for nearly six decades but for me it's her gentleness, kindness and how grounded and humble that makes her so captivating

When I was a baby, my mother taught me the Four Seasons By singing the song to me. She would sing it at night to me to put me to bed. I still have vivid memories as a young child, and my mother singing this beautiful tune. She would replace the word "me" with "Jesus". I am now learning this on guitar at 30 Years old. I intend to sing to anyone that needs a friend. And I've already performed for my mother. Thank you, James Taylor and Carole King. God bless you both. Amen.

He can transport you back to the 70s with so much ease. What an iconic voice that never changes.

My dad send me this today, it’s my birthday 🥺🥰. I love him so much
These tunes are timeless. Brings back very fond memories. WOW look how young they were. Just awesome.
"They pulled it for a single - whatever that's worth" .... understatement of the decade!!!
This is how I feel about the mother of my children we're a long time apart I'm forever her friend !
James and Carol are the best! What great songs from a great song era.
In his prime so, so very good its amazing. Simple clear almost monotone voice, not trying to impress people with screechy range just a great singer to listen to. Its hard to explain why James Taylor is so great but he just is.

Exactly. His voice is deceptively beautiful because it's heartfelt. Same for Carole. And could they write a song! Neither would have won American Idol, just destroy the winner in record sales.

James like the wonderful frontman that he is and Carol so humble and respectful just playing the piano instead to catch any attention. Two stars giving each other respect and giving us a unique moment in music.

So she wrote this song to let him know he had a friend after he wrote Fire and Rain ……. So very unique special moment
Wow I REMEMBER THIS WHEN I WAS 13 . AND STILL JUST AS GREAT.💯👍
2 beautiful souls up there singing an amazing Masterpiece 🎉🎉. She was a humble soul and ge was a soul that was battling addiction, that song 🎵 is life imitating art.
Lovely song performed brilliantly by the magical James Taylor and the wonderful Carole King. Thank you very much for the beauty of music you give the world. 🎼👏🤗
You've got a friend great song after all these years.
Such a beautiful version of this song! I love hearing Carol King play the piano while James Taylor sings and plays the guitar. I also love how he gives Carol credit for writing the song. Both are talented musicians in their own right. I’ve enjoyed listening to both of them since the early 70’s. This song will always have a soft spot in my heart. 🌻❤🎵
I am 53 years old now. These songs just remind me of my old man driving slowly on a Sunday to visit the grandparents and his brother, memories brought back by the music are the most powerful memories.
I can call you so many times... Dedicated to my best friend, who left us years ago. We used to sing this song together.🎶🎵👌👍
Thank you, James Taylor and Carol King, you both have sung songs that I like, the message is that we must increase friends for peace, not dependency.
Carol King is the epitome of excellence and beauty
That what I call real music! Done by real artists, not computers. Thats good straigth forward music & real emotions today, yesterday and tomorrow too!
My dad introduced me to James Taylor with this song. Just beautiful
