DUDE. I just found this alternate version of the crazy train solo on a demo and I can’t seem to figure out how to play it. If you could do a video on it that would be sick, because I havent seen any.

Love the dedication to completely redo the video, it's very helpful for those who want to learn these songs the correct way.

Kudos for taking the time to redo your video. Journey content is always welcome! A superbly talented group of musicians and songwriters with the greatest of all rock singers. The drum and bass parts of this song are also super cool. The bass is the melodic backbone of the whole song, and Valory's tone really stands out. Weird how much the drums alone sound like a military march ("Turkish music" in the the parlance of Mozart's day.)

Love how in the Neil clip he played the last few high notes with so much more soulful, vocal quality - a lot of color. It matters more than the 5th harmony. Lesson in itself!

Love these technique videos, especially when it explains the wizardry of my favorite bands, songs, and/or players. I'm really looking forward to the Neal Schon techniques video, as he's one of my favorite guitarists. Just nothing like a Neal Schon solo!

Huge Schon fan and have learned many of his lead parts. The intro to this song has been the most difficult for me. Check out the Mother Father solo, it’s one of my favorites

Love this song! All these little parts even on their own just sound so good. It's one of those songs that just gets everyone involved, whether being performed by a band or even at a karaoke night. Definitely a bit of an anthem, Steve Perry's voice really is like no other. Whenever I hear it now since watching the Rock of Ages movie, that's where my mind takes me. Such a feel good 80's music sing along watch. Looking forward to the techniques video! Congrats on 873k Subscribers!

I had such an issue getting into position for that double-stop bend so quickly, but then I found out that if I just bend the second-string while leaning slightly against the first string, the natural harmonic produced on the first string is the same as the fretted note.

Humility. The crowning Hallmark of a great guitarist !!! 👍 Hat's off Sir. Per my prev comment on the 1st video, my HS GF requested I learn Escape songs when it dropped. So I learned it Per the Overdub but dropped a gauge to Ernie Ball .008's & couldn't figure out how Neal didn't constantly break strings on that insanely high triple bend. But after showing her my effort I focused on Who's crying now & Stone in Love. My fave Journey songs are deep cuts. SIL Rocks, but my fave is "Still they ride". 1,000 times more now, nostalgically remembering cruising, that Sweet 16yo girl, & 1st love in 1981. Sappy I know LOL. I Think I'll play Ain't talking bout Love, to try to get that damm earworm song outta my head 🤣

That four-note intro lick has been causing me grief for years. Michael Casswell is one of the few who I've seen play it perfectly.

Thanks for doing this video and also the new redo. I really got obsessed with this song, especially the 4 note sequence. I am just a hobby player who tries to learn all the parts of this song since more than 15 years probably and I am still struggling with it. The last couple of years I could improve my alternate picking technique which helped a lot, but when the 4 note part speeds up I often lose control or it gets sloppy with a lot of string noise. I tried it with consequent down-up-down-up and also pickslanting at first. But recently I also tried to switch to a kind of economy picking motion only for the fast part by going down-up-up-down (which initially happend by accident), where I now have the feeling that this actually works pretty good for me when I do it consciously. Anyway, Neal Schon is one of the greatest for me for sure.

I remember watching that clip of Neal, but didn't remember him doing that bit at the end of the solo. I still want to say it's easier to do the double bend on my LP, might have to try the other way when I get a chance. 🙂

I use economy picking on the fast 2 string part. Its literally half the picking effort and motion, instead of down-up-down-up its just down-up to accomplish the same thing.

I do the 4 note part on one string. May not technically be correct, but that's the way I learned it years ago. Same notes and I can actually play it that way. I can't get it up to speed doing it on 2 strings.

For the 4note pattern remember to downward pick. Not sweeping parallel to the strings, but moving in and out at an angle, so that when you pull it out you're clear of the string when moving to the next string. I have a video of this solo on my channel. It's like 15yrs old and never uploaded anything since lol I alternate picked the fast part.

The 4 note pattern kinda messes me up when it starts to speed up, i'm fine for a couple seconds but then I just get tangled up. I feel like my brain just can't really handle a fast pattern like that, it seems like my hands can move much quicker than the information in my head.

No hate on Neal, he’s consistently come up with some of the most memorable solos in pop rock history…but sweating that run up lick into the main solo is pointless. It’s not Petrucci, it’s CC Deville…a scale shape slipped through as fast as he can get from A to B. That’s why he can’t recreate it either. Sometimes we work too hard, lol.
