    Rachel and Dr. John totally missed this call. You didn’t ask her what her income is and is the husband taking care of the kids while she’s working? Are they saving on daycare? Why is it okay that woman can do this and not men? Maybe her husband is depressed or can’t find a job equally to the one he had. There’s a lot to unfold here. Just so many questions not posed. Also, she obviously has a spending problem. Y’all not ready to take over this show without Dave YET! Clearly the guy doesn't want to take the time to discuss a budget with her anyhow. It is hard to tell what exactly is going on here. Did they both want to just enjoy the money for a while and had no plan for actually going back to work? Has the relationship changed now that they have four children? Can he not fathom working a job anymore after he had some success? Did he get lucky in the past and now he thinks he has a skill that will make him a successful entrepreneur? 10k/month IS pretty rich living. Do you know if there are vacations they take every year that the husband doesn’t want them to stop. 120,000 was not spent on hair extensions. She might not be fiscally smart but it’s silly to say she spent the annual family budget on herself.

  • @lagarde2011
    @lagarde2011 Жыл бұрын

    Calls like this make me miss Ramsey. Yes, there's a relationship issue here, but this couple has a math problem that needs to be addressed pronto. Ramsey would have asked where the money is going--how much is the mortgage, how many cars/car notes do they have, can they sell one of the cars, etc. Can the wife return to a career while her husband works on his project and/or finds a new job? They must be spending a fortune on health insurance for a family of six. Even a very modest job would solve that problem. Losing a job can be devastating. It's easy to think you can't do anything but the thing you did before. These negative thoughts get worse over time. This couple needs to face their fears and jump back into the work force.

It was our only income in our household and we also had a new born baby with a serious mortgage. Told my wife that I will land a better job within 3-months (amount of the severance package) so it won't impact our family, I set a motivation that if I could do this then I'll buy myself the Green Egg smoker grill I've always wanted. Landed a promotion at another company in 2-months but went scorched Earth on the applications and professional connections with 100+ sent because my family depended on it. if they have a 5,000 mortgage (sounds like they may have a very high end home) and normal groceries and Amazon for a large family, then I can see maybe 80k even 100K being needed, but not 120K. They should: never eat out. Zero nails, fancy haircuts or new clothes unless your kids’ tennis shoes are in tatters. Buy BASIC store brands of foods you cook at home. No more Whole Foods etc. (And I say this as an organic consumer for all dirty dozen items for sure)

    The average entrepreneur takes four years before earning money. We lived that before knowing the stat! The only way it worked was we were a two-income family, plus we ended up with a lot of CC debt (paid off now, thanks Ramsey’s!).

    If she wants to spend then she should get a job. She puts her stuff before her family, he married the wrong girl.

    Good lesson for men. You are only as valuable as you can provide. Yeah, the guy should be working. Yes, she should be spending less or working to help out. But the overall point of this discussion is if the man is not bringing home sufficient money, the woman loses respect and will eventually dump him. She said it right there. We may not be married in five years.

    She’s not overspending. Odds are the house payment is a good chunk of what’s being spent. And 4 boys. I have sons. They cost more. The fact that they saved enough for 5+ years attests to their frugality. They don’t have a budget so they don’t honestly know where they’re at. Good starting point, but him falling back on telling her to stop spending money is unrealistic and indicative of other issues.
