Thank you Rachel! Well presented and great learning video!
I have wood that was sanded, stained and sealed with polycrylic. Which would be better to use? HTV or 651? I wasn't sure how the HTV would react with the polycrylic. Thank you!
This was an awesome informative video!! I have been having trouble with vinyl on wood, but I plan to try the HTV way!!!
Question, instead of staining this after the vinyl has been put on, could contact paper be used instead to cover the entire image to keep the H TV in place?
I have stained wood ready for HTV but i want to seal with an oil for outdoor use. Is this best before the HTV, after HTV or not at all. Oil tends to rub off any kind adhesive in my experience. Thanks
Thank you! I'm a newbie. Did not know the difference between HTV and regular vinyl. Excellent place to do some learning!!

So would HTV work on painted wood? And if yes what type of paint is best? I am getting ready to do a project and was planning on painting the wood first using acrylic craft paint, Apple Barrel brand.
Hi! What heat is your press on? I am trying htv on stained wood- first time! I have a large easy press. Am i supposed to keep it moving or press like a shirt? One sign i did is "ok" but the htv turned a bit yellow. Any way to fix that? thanks!
This was soooo helpful. I am a new Cricut user and this really is helpful. Thank you.
There's quite a few different types of HTV. What do you recommend for use on wood? There are even specialized HTVs that even claim to adhere better on wood (i.e. Cricut Everyday Strongbond). Any recommendations? How about the printable HTV? How well does that apply to wood? Anything to consider with regards to wood types and thicknesses? Can you stain or paint prior to applying? Thanks.
Thanks! Just ordered HTV yesterday for the first time. Love your videos, I got a Maker last year.

I enjoyed this video! I'm new to the Cricut world. I want to make a step stool for a child. I want to paint it first and then put a saying and vinyl cut out picture on it. What is the best type of paint on the wood, that the HTV or permanent vinyl will stick to? Since she will be stepping on it, to brush her teeth or wash her hands, should I do the vinyl and Policrylic coats or stick with the HTV and no coat on top? Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! I have a piece of wood w/ rope on it, thought I was gonna need to do the sanding down and everything else...Awesome Tutorial 😀

I tried this technique last using my Cricut Heat Press on 340 and melted my HTV. I was super sad. I'll invest in the hand held one as see if it works better. Or should I just lower the temperature?
I’m making a wood sign that will be outside. I spray painted it with Rustoleum 2x ultra cover paint & primer. Do you recommend HTV or permanent vinyl? I wasn’t sure which would hold up best outside. I thought I should use the polycrylic sealer after paint before vinyl.
I see you all use different scrapers- is there a brand or size you like better? I recently misplaced my Cricut one and looking to get a replacement. Love y’all!

Can you use a heat press doing the same thing? I have siser easyweed. And I want to do vinyl on wood. I do have a Cricut Heat Press. But I usually use my bigger press.
I am new to all of this and don't have an easy press. Would I be able to use an actual Iron? But put something in between the iron and the transfer tape?
When using HTV on the wood sign, can you put polyacrylic on top of the stain before applying the HTV? I like the look of the satin shine more than no poly?
On the heat guide for cricut it says it need to be on the second heat setting, is tht true? Also how long do you need to move the east press around?
Thank you 💕 will definitely be trying the htv 💕

How well does HTV work for outdoors? I am placing Vinyl on Cornhole Boards and want it to last forever or for a while at least. Would you still recommend HTV and then use the Minwax Polycrylic to last longer? Or should we use permanent vinyl and use Minwax?

So, both will work well! For this, I would recommend regular adhesive vinyl, and many layers of brushed polycrylic.
This makes me wish that regular vinyl already had its transfer tape on it like htv

If I wanted to use HTV on a wooden cutting board (likely already sealed from the store) do I need to seal it to make it food safe, and if so what's the best seal for that?
Let me ask you, I’m doing a project with HTV on small wood squares , do I stain it at all?
I see so many conflicting things about whether or not to seal only. I’ve heard so many ppl say it will actually make the perm vinyl lift?
Ohhhh I am def going to make those signs!
Where do you get your thin sheets of wood? And also how would I write someone name bigger than the little scale?
I briefly thought about using HTV on wood signs but never tried to……yet. I wasn’t aware of the difference in characteristics with HTV as opposed to regular vinyl and now after seeing your tutorial, I am informed. So, TFS your expertise with all of us. (PS Being that I’m a Northerner, I just have to say I LOVE your accent!! Rachel, I am a member but still a newbie at trying things I want to put something on some barstools that I have purchased that have already been stained & sealed and everything. They will be outside in the weather! Please please tell me what I should do so I do not ruined these!! I know this is a older video I am just now coming across it… Still trying to learn your program. Don’t know why it seems so hard for me. Please tell me what your recommendation is for the Barstools . thank you so so much this was a great video.I need your expert advice on that! Like I said I just don’t want to ruin the stools …:-) Love all your videos they’re so informative, and make me want to turn my cricket machine on no matter what time of night it is… LOL
I always polycrylic or modge podge and then stick my vinyl. Never had a problem. But now I want to try the iron on!

Well, that was my bright idea for my current project and it is NOT working out for me. It's like the transfer tape is too sticky and won't let go of the vinyl. What am I doing wrong?
What if your using oil based stain and oil based polycrylic. Will this effect the sealing of the vinyl?
Does ir makes big difference of appearance of wood after you apply polyacrylic? If I have a design just on the top of wooden box, should I apply polyacrylic on whole box or just top of it would be fine?

It will make the area glossy :) So we recommend adding it to your whole design.
This video was so helpful!!! Thank you.
This helps so much! I always get nervous trying to place the regular vinyl as I'm a perfectionist and want it centered perfectly, so HTV is what I'll be using from now on! Quick question so I can finish using the regular vinyl I have on hand--when you are done sealing with the poly, what do you clean your brush with so it's super clean and ready for your next project?
@MakersGonnaLearn
3 жыл бұрын
So glad it's helped you! We still use regular vinyl many times a week, but we do love HTV. So, we just rinse our brushes off as soon as we use them with warm water for several minutes. Also, make sure the poly is water based and not oil based :) Best of luck!
@JackiLeaWWP
3 жыл бұрын
we do a lot of refinishing. I keep a canning jar (with lid) on the table with water and a little dish soap to rinse the brushes. Gently agitate and rinse out really well. Blot dry with a shop rag or towel and hang your brush or upside down in the jar so your bristles have free movement and don't dry all crazy ;) I've been using the same three brushes for the last 5 years.
Great session thanks for sharing.

If I have a very smooth painted wood, can I still use Iron on?
If I am applying the HTV to raw wood (unpainted or unfinished) do you think it needs to be sealed? My problem is the sealant changes the color of the wood a little. If you recommend sealing is there one you recommend that doesn't change the color?

Silly question but can you use the bigger heat press on the wood? I don't have the miniature one. Thanks
@MakersGonnaLearn
3 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question! We actually don't recommend that because it's so much harder. See, wood is not perfectly flat or smooth so a larger press can't easily reach all of the uneven areas of the wood, so it will take much more patience to get into all the grooves enough for the Iron-On to stick to the wood :) I hope that makes sense! You CAN do it with a larger press, but be prepared to be very patient!

It would be the same scenario with dollar tree wood signs. You could use HTV, or regular vinyl and seal it unless you want to be able to remove the vinyl later. If you are using a canvas, iron-on works great because canvas is a type of material and the glue will bond to it well. You would just need to make sure that you put a mat or towel in the back of the canvas when ironing so you have a more solid surface to work on. Hope this helped!
