Pffff so you just finihsed You Season 4 part 2 and man do we have a lot to talk about. Throughout this video we're gonna be recapping the new netflix show and also talking about the ending and where it could be going.
Full spoilers ahead so if you haven't checked it out then check out now. With that out the way, huge thank you for clicking this, now let's get into You Season 4.
-
Ok so after all the breadcrumbs were laid in part 1, part 2 has us finally meeting Kate's father Tom Lockwood. Played by Greg Kinnear he's a a devious, evil man who's as obsessed with Kate is Joe is. It's a fatherly obsession but we learn that he's secretly controlled every aspect of her life. Every job she got, every charitable event that went through, it was all him controlling things from the shadows.
We discover that he's learned who Joe is early on and that he wants to use him and his certain set of skills to take out Rhys Montrose. Joe ends up doing this which is when we get our first major twist. Turns out that Joe actually imagined the killer version of Rhys who represents his darker and more evil side. Even though he's doing horrendous things, audiences have still always grown to like Joe because we see things from his point of view. He has very much presented this killer with a heart of gold to us whereas Rhys represents what he's really like. This plays into the ending with him very much embracing this side after Kate enables him to do what he wants.
Now a big question that you might have in this reveal is why did Tom actually want Rhys dead if he wasn't the eat the rich killer. Well it just boils down to him going after rich people. He already used the press to ruin his reputation and sending Joe after him was very much the literal nail in the coffin.

The biggest twist of this season for me was when Marienne was in the cage, I for real thought she left. Before, I thought it was really stupid for the creators to give Tati Gabrielle “main cast” status this season when she was only in one episode and had no involvement in this season. They sure had me fooled 😭

For me it was the complete opposite, after watching the first five episodes and how boring the plot was I immediately thought of Marienne, how he kept her necklace (typical Joe’s obsessive behaviour) + no glass cage which is what makes this show creepy. Did you notice how this season we were not shown Joe's child backstory at all? There wasn't even one flashback to the times, when he was a kid or worked for Mr. Moony; I think it was a very intentional decision from the writers team - it's time that we understand, that Joe is not a hurt by life kid, who needs our sympathy, but real life monster, who needs to be punished for his actions

The part of the ending I find the craziest is that Joe seems to have lost his ability to have compassion, one of his only redeeming traits. How he framed Nadia is something the “old” Joe would never do. This new version of Joe embracing his dark side is ice cold. For example how he couldn’t frame that guy once he knew he was going to get help, he felt too guilty. I liked the depth of his character when he had morals, but I also see what everyone is saying about how we are seeing him for the monster he is. I’ll be interested to see how season 5 goes.

When I saw Kate accepted Joe and loved him uncoditionally, I was sort of envious of that kind of love, but now that I think about it, Kate is litterarly another Love, she is just as horrible as Joe, but she she does not want to get her hands dirty, at least for now. I think Kate loves Joe enough she will cover up for him and allow him to indulge in his 'hobby'. It's just as horrible as Love, if not worst, but I think they're operating on different levels. In my opinion, the entire message of "You" is just commentary on how we, as an audience, would root for a monster as long as they are given enough "human" traits for us to feel for them. It's a socio-political satire about the duality of people, that even seemingly kind people can be monstrous and vice versa. This is one of my favorite shows of all time simply because of how fantastically well-written Joe is, despite how at times, the plot of his story can very much seem too convenient and cliche. The ending of this season can work as an actual finale, or a set up for season 5. Either way, Joe Goldberg is a fascinating fictional character that I think deserves to be talked about a lot more.

This season was a true masterpiece on so many aspects. I'm still in shock especially about Katie's arc and don't get me started on POOR EDWARD AND NADIA. JOE IS A TERRIFYING MONSTER. He ended that kid besides the pavement on broad daylight! The gore! So unnerving yet so realistic, showing us the audience his true nature with no more romanticised narrations. Exactly who he is: a dangerous serial killer. Also, can we talk about how disgusting Katie's father was with his incestuous vibes towards his own daughter!? It's completely logical for Katie to turn out to be who she is and Joe's enabler. Her monster of a father messed her up for life. I knew she was too good to be true. But also, her giving these kids cancer?! Yikes. On a more serious note, this season is also a great commentary about how the system is rigged from the beginning as it favours and protects the monsters of this world with the tools of money and power. Money and power literally outturn justice and there's no poetic justice as well. It's completely realistic and that's what makes it even more TERRIFYING to me.

@@umairaali1952 I beg to differ. He had vibes that were insinuating that, that were ambiguous at the very least. That was my interpretation about him at least and from what I've seen I'm not the only one saying it. He was controlling her, wanting her to be near him at all times, was like her emotionally abusive bf with a benefactor mindset, he literally said to her in a very wierd way that he loved her out of all his children the most, and the biggest part was that he had a literal FILE, with entire lists about her romantic and seggsual endeavours. That's at the very least INSANE. Katie said it herself that he even had her bjs listed. I was wanting to vomit at that part. He was wierdly happy when expecting her at his workshop also. I truly don't know, maybe I'm reading it wrong but to me that did not seem like only a controlling father. He seemed disgusting violating every boundary that a father shouldn't have. Yes even a 1% rich psycho like him. So maybe that's enough for me to view it like that and maybe I'm wrong and you're right and it's all about control, because he is who he is. But, that file info scene that Katie mentioned near the fire pit was intentional. It showed us that she was forever uncomfortable with her father's non fathery behaviours when it comes to her AND her romantic partners and that he charms her to manipulate her besides the control part and that she couldn't escape him. It was an uneasy scene to me that showed that her daddy issues were deeper for a reason beyond the money and status. It's just that money and status enabled him to do these things. That scene showed that he wasn't just a father that wanted his daughter to be him and take over his company, he was directly an obstacle of her having a man and a family. She could have taken the company and even if he was controlling he could have wanted her to have one. But no he didn't. He sabotaged that. Well at the very least he was a narcissistic psycho that saw himself in her and that's why he acted like this and favoured her from all his children we can all agree to that. But yikes he was making her speeches about New York like they were bonny and clyde or something. In the end she became exactly that with Joe basically. Ironic. Also the fact that Joe freed her from her father makes her more enamoured with him.

I felt so bad for Nadia! She almost got joe! She at least got Mariene out alive, what a feat! Joe has no idea! Mariene could still come forward to testify on Nadia’s behalf but would also run into the issue of not being believed although there might be phone tracking data and cctv footage to support them. CCTV is all over London. I’m so surprised joe has not gotten caught. I’ve been rooting against joe ever since he killed Love. I honestly don’t get the difference between her and Kate to him other then maybe Kate is better at impulse control but both had money and power and helped joe hide his horrible crimes and still loved him. Maybe it’s bc Kate is trying not to kill or feels bad about it but then the ending implied she does kill just indirectly through joe and others. Maybe it’s just that joe has given into his nature and that’s the difference. With Love he was still in denial and was restricted bc of the family life. He married her out of duty after seeing his own reflection in her repulsed him. This season really made me hate him. I still liked it though!

I wonder if Kate is using him as a personal attack dog while Joe is using her to cover up his various crimes, it would be interesting to see Kate outwit Joe in the psychopath stakes because you can tell she's just as bad as both Joe and Love, the only difference is that she doesn't directly kill people herself.

He's responsible for it. Let's face it. Joe is a TERRIBLE person who happens to be charming. Also, I can't help but notice that inconveniences the lives of people of color. He puts them in crappy situations with tragic results. And he is often a paternal figure to them. The kid from season 1, Jenny Ortega’s character, and now recently Nadia. Jenny Ortega's character was a freaking minor whose sister, also young, had guardianship. She has no clue what happened to her sister. And what happened to Nadia is just freaking tragic. Joe likes to play this transparent social recognition of his white privilege and other crap, but he uses it to his advantage. He plays the 'woke' card to lower defenses and then attacks. He's GROSS.

I hated feeling empathy for him and it's what made his character endearing. Now that he has accepted he's just a terrible person? It's like his character died without anyone knowing or acknowledging it and got replaced by a new character with no morals, no consistancy, an imposter. Part 2 was great but there are a few things like Nadia jumping to the conclusion that her professor might be the killer because of one line Phoebe says. Or how instead of calling the police and have them hide in the very same place Nadia hid and ambushing Joe, making that very dangerous and stupid plan. I think the twist works because that's what Joe has been doing since s1, he always distances himself from his actions. It was Love, it was this it was that, he never accepts responsibility so him making an imaginary serial killer who's making him do things is in line. I also like that instead of giving him some kind of a redemption they are going full on evil mode so there is nothing to redeem. I thought the first part romanticized Joe a bit too much but part 2 did a good job of displaying that Joe is truly evil.

I would have liked it better for the plot if Joe's suicide attempt had actually been successful. The scene with him and the hallucinated Rhys on the bridge, their entire conversation touched me very much. Joe realizing all the terrible things he has done, but not managing to change and therefore committing suicide fits very well into the story and the show would have had a tragic but coherent ending. But then he is saved and you think he has changed, but then he has not. He murders Eddie and frames Nadia for it, although Kate, as his new girlfriend, could have easily gotten rid of the evidence Nadia found in Joe's apartment, just as she restored Joe's identity through her father's contacts and a lot of money. It makes no sense that Joe admits to his atrocities and even wants to commit suicide to stop them for good but then continues murdering. But killing Joe would have meant that the fourth season would be the last and since the show is still pretty successful the producers probably want to release a fifth season so they let Joe live.

@@cynthiazavala4507 yeah I think so. Joe’s evil side never made him feel bad, that’s why his projection of Rhys is always smiling and happy. It was Joe’s desire for redemption that makes him feel bad (even though that’s what makes us viewer sympathetic to him). When he jumped he regretted it, and thought “I should’ve fought harder”. In that moment, he doesn’t feel the remorse for his crime, and his guilt disappears. He accepts that his desire to be good is the real illusion that tortured him, and he is truly a monster…and then Kate comes around and shows him that even monsters like him can be loved, perhaps because she thought of herself as the monster who gave dozen kids cancer as well, and Joe has showed her love so he deserved it from her

I loved season 2&3 because of Love especially. She brought an interesting aspect to the character dynamics, by being a reflection of Joe in a sense. And I think both of those seasons are, artistically speaking, high quality, for what they want to portray. But what they did with Part 2 of season 4, is outright genius writing, story development and dialogue. It is just insane. I didn't think they could top season 3, but they made the impossible happen. Props to the writers! And the actors too, needless to say. So I wanna conclude by saying, that I find a score of 7/10 to be a bit low, for that wild second part of the 4th season. I'd say this season desearves at least 9/10.

There is no plausible explanation anyone could ever tell me that would convince me that this ending could've actually happened. I just have so many issues with the unbreakable plot armor joe has been accumulating progressively as each season goes on. Surely one detective out there would at least be able to put together that joe was closely involved in the crimes, deaths and disappearances of candace, beck, love, malcom, simon, gemma, delilah, forty, peach, rhys, nadia and paco; has the show also forgotten that sherry and cary are still alive and were attacked by him (and love)? A sloppy "i made my helpless husband do it" in a suicide note doesn't change the fact he was complicit in kidnapping them. Theo also saw on the cameras that he put natalie's body in the car. A ferret could put that all together and make a solid case against him oh but since he's left those places and has big fancy lawyers who can clean any name offscreen he's fine.

they already pinned the "Eat the Rich" killer thing on Dawn, the erotomania woman from Part 1. that part is over. so they just pinned Rhys Montrose's death on Eddie, and, using Joe's logic, the "reason" that Nadia "killed Eddie" was because she really liked Rhys and wanted to see the good change he would do to the area/London overall. He's pinned a lot of his deaths on other people this season: Malcolm, Simon, and Gemma's deaths on Dawn, Tom's death and his bodyguard's death on each other, then Rhys's death on Eddie, and Eddie's death on Nadia.

I think the cops just found her with a body and with her not saying anything, they just took her in for the murder. The boyfriend (I forgot his name already and I literally just finished watching) had a rich family so whoever came to claim his things, probably covered it up. But also, I think they left it loose so that she (Nadia) could come back in a variety of ways. This season was amazing and I loved it but it was a bit too easy to guess what was happening to Joe. Honestly, Joe was made a little too 'likable' for a villain that he is, tbh. It's a good thing that Joe finally is full-on 'villainy' by the end of season 4.
