@Tom M - that is what I felt as I listened to it. I thought O'Brien handled him very well, far better than he would have got had he been a railway worker on the line to one of the other hacks commenting on this story. He was so close to getting the point and might go away and think about what just happened, and I hope he does.

It's absolutely disgraceful that anyone wouldn't support unions amd workers democratic right to strike. People are so brainwashed by the likes of the Daily Fail. There is no party worse than the Tories. Everything is worse under the Tories absolutely everything, from the NHS, education, pay, poverty, workers rights, democracy. Anything you can think of, it's far worse. 13 years of misery and decay is enough. I'm going by own eyes not what the Tory media try and brainwash into believing and I've noticed a huge decline in this country under the Tories.

There's millions of people up and down this country who have been programmed into thinking they don't deserve better wages, they dont deserve better treatment, better standards of living etc. And when some industry tries to fight for those things, they beat them down. The people of this country are obsessed with self sabotage and self harm. Turning on each other instead of looking to where the money is actually going.

Through the workers before us that fought for them. Just a few days ago Liz Truss made it clear she wanted to cut public sector pay. Yes, she denied it a couple of hours after she was caught out, but make no mistake, this is the plan going forward. Jacob Rees Mogg calls 'flexi- work', 'part time work for full time pay'. So all you people who do flexi hours and are probably do more hours then you used to do, he thinks you're lazy. We see many inspiring stories of people who have overcome and then spend their time trying to make sure that the problems they faced don't affect others. But equally there are so many more people who think "well I had to do all these things to get to where I am, why can't others do it too?". It's sad and selfish and ultimately only ever benefits the people who caused the problems in the first place. i.e. - the employers who exploited you.

A note on doctor's pay: A “junior doctor” is every non-consultant level doctor in the UK's professional parlance - those in foundation training (0-2 years practice) and registrars (3-10+ years practice). Medical school is usually between 5-7 years education and training doing an undergraduate degree, with foundation training adding 2 years in-hospital practical training before choosing a professional specialty (becoming a registrar in that speciality). The mean pay for the whole category of “junior doctors” in England is approximately as stated: £44k. That is, within reason, an accurate statement. However, what that figure disguises is the fact that newly qualified graduates going into their first year of practice - Foundation Year 1 - have a salary that starts from around £28k. I listened to this live today on the radio. I was so disappointed with this man. He got kicked out of the army after years and he said that was his own fault for being too young and not understanding the terms and conditions. Shown no Compassion, for anyone else in the same situation. Not ever one is equal, some people wouldn’t be able to understand all the fine print even if they tried to. But with a man like this, he would say too bad. Many people think that our employers have our best interests at heart they still might want to get the most work out of us that they can but they don’t want us to be in danger or to rip us off. But simply not the case anymore and it’s government support the workers losing their rights. This man answer is it’s too bad they have to understand that things change and they have to change with them. The kindness and understanding coming from this man is unbelievable and incredibly sad. He states he’s not had a pay rise in 8 years and by what I can tell he’s ok with that. So if he’s in such a wage he doesn’t need to ask for more or expect to get more , shows he either has enough money or doesn’t think he’s worth more. It’s been a long time since I hear someone who sounds intelligent sound so cruel. He doesn’t think people should try and protect their jobs and livelihoods it’s not just about wages. It’s about being able to afford to live and having a job that’s Secure. Everything about this man , is so sad , because people with his attitude is what’s turning the U.K. into this awful nasty Country. Which is being pulled apart by two types of people. People with empathy for others against people with no empathy for others. What a sad place we now live in.

He didn't get kicked out of the army; the length of a short service commission is a maximum of 8yrs. Junior officers can apply for an extended commission after 2 years of service with the recommendation of their senior officers but there's only so many handed out a year, he chose to bide his time and was beaten in the running by someone better and brighter bringing his contract to an end. When a subaltern gets an extended commission it's a big thing drinks all round moment in their career so to claim he wasn't aware of this is BS imo.

This call epitomises little England. Either "I'm alright" or "I've been mistreated" so everyone should be resigned to the same fate. It's abhorrent. We're so accustomed to sneering down our noses at others we'd willingly s*** on that we simply don't care or bother to look up and see the amount we've already and continue to be s*** on. As long as we continue to undervalue ourselves, thus allowing those with much greater wealth to exploit us, we will forever continue to undervalue the work of others on the same level, while greedy pigs keep at the trough.

This was painful to listen to. You could definitely hear him slowly realise the nonsense of his own view. Reality is that aside from striking, outright resignation or accept poor treatment and do nothing, there isn't much a worker can do if negotiations between trade unions and employers fail. Worker protections are there for a reason. He sounds like someone who has a very Thatcherite view of things.
