Oh my goodness thank you! I reeeeeaally appreciate that!!
Minor thing but wanted do mention it: The book has so much love for arts and crafts in general: cooking, luthiery, architecture, music, painting, filming and videography. As a woodworker I really felt the violin repair scene, it was very accurate and unusually detailed, but also conveyed the fun, intuition and emotion.
I haven't even watched the video yet. I just pressed play and went "Damn, the hair and earring is a LOOK😍"

That’s awesome! Get to it whenever you can and I’m sure you’ll love it :)
I fucking loved this book. As a trans woman with a non accepting mom, Katrina is a character I relate to on a very deep level. And the conviction in this book, my god
I listened to Lindsey Stirling’s album “Artemis” 💿while reading this and highly recommend the pairing! It added more immersion to the story as if I was listening to🎻Katrina playing her violin instead. (Stirling is mentioned throughout the book as well ☺️)

I knew someone else would have already commented on her. Lindsey Stirling gets my vote too. Great album.
This book appears amazing, I had just finished a sci-fiction that has a blend of nonmagical fantasy yesterday, and it was amazing. Light From Uncommon Stars sounds like a great book to read. Thanks for the recommendation.
I'm so glad I found you through your recommendations for translated Japanese literature. I've been watching multiple videos from you during a multiple days, and love your style of talking about books! 😍 You've made my TBR grown a lot and my wallet to shrink even more 😂🙈 And I've got so good daily laughs from you, especially the video where you commented on Murakami fans comments, I laughed the whole day, every time I remembered it 🤣❤️ So glad you loved this book, I was shocked I liked an alien book myself 😂

Wow, that is a massive compliment! I’m so happy to hear that!
I just finished Light From Uncommon Stars and it was a real page turner, hard to put down, with so much to do with everything going on around us and with us, Katrina's struggle is so heartfelt, the danger she is in is so real, Shizuka's soul stealing is real in the sense that the parents of a musical prodigy sometimes enter a deal with a coach where the souls of the child, the parents, and the coach all seem to be on offer to Hell in exchange for musical virtuousity, and Lan and her family journey from the 'evil galactic empire' to a new life describes so well the experiences of immigrants who escape to the US only to be received as 'aliens', this is a very worthwhile book to read and it is enjoyable too
Wonderful review. I appreciated the book for what it was doing, but ultimately didn't love it as much. It meandered too much in my opinion. But I'm so glad that you and countless others have loved it.

@@WillowTalksBooks Thanks, love! I couldn't find it but I'll keep searching :(
Yikes, your tweet about this book was my first time hearing about it. I did a bad job of keeping up with new books in 2021. 😬 I just placed a hold for it with my library to fix that. I love books about music and found family and everything else you mentioned, so this book is 100% for me. The violin is on my list of favorite musical instruments. One of my favorite books about music is Grady Hendrix's horror novel We Sold Our Souls, which I believe is meant to be a love letter to metal music. Oh and while I am on the subject of music and violins, I recently saw a metal band called The Callous Daoboys and there is a member in that band who plays the violin. It is the first time I've seen a violinist in a metalcore band. 😲 But anyway, thanks for talking about this book! Your makeup looks great and I love the Gandalf earring. 💚

Hahaha yeah that’ll definitely do it!
I have "musical" books on my shelf but they're blues and jazz ones, both by French authors Estelle Faye with postapocaliptic Paris, and jazz sung by main character and Maxence Fermin with "Billard blues" where you can watch Al Capon play billard with Willy Hope. Very different books but for me they share the language that transfers you to described places, and makes you hear the music.
Finished it last night. Damn is it heartbreaking and wonderful! I'm not transgender (tho I'm a part of LGBTQA+ community), but I felt so much anger and compassion for Katrina... I wish I could hug all kids like her and tell them I'd die protecting them...
