    I had multiple microphones (Blue Yeti, Rode VideoMic and lav mic) and I was not happy with the audio quality, until I got Zoom H1N, fantastic piece of equipment, great portability and crystal clear audio. You can use it as a shotgun mic, audio recorder and interview mic. Highly recommend. I use it for my KZread videos and courses.

    Holy moly! I currently use that same Takstar into a Zoom H1n with my Sony a5100 for videos and was pretty appalled with how much worse the audio quality was on it going into the Panasonic than what I get out of it with the Zoom H1 but after that lavaliere comparison it all makes sense now! Night and day difference going into the external recorder! Was going to ditch the Zoom H1n with an upgrade to a camera with an audio jack, but it looks like the Zoom has now found a permanent residence in my content creation arsenal!

    As always a good video and I use both the shotgun and lav mics. Both are very good for the price. The only problem I had on the lav was where the cord went into the mic, I had to repair that. But for the cost I am just going to buy a new one.

    I'm a big fan of using the zoom as both a preamp and a dedicated recorder. Plug you mic into the zoom and set levels. Use the headphone jack to run to your camera and press record on both camera and zoom. This way you get a file with the video and a separate safety file on the zoom.

Worked great for my son's martial arts tournament; reducing background noise, and focusing on his performance. Pros: Half the price of Rode, Slightly better Bass response, Includes cables for Both cameras and phones, No battery necessary (so requires plug-in power capable devices) Cons: Shockmount not as isolating as Rode Clean, cheap, never worry about battery... Loving it!

    Does anyone know how to fix this: so Basically I have an Olympus WS- 853 digital voice recorder, which I use for meetings and regular stuff, (although it's not as good as I thought it was despite being £85), I once recorded rain sound with it while outside just by using the handheld recorder alone but the noise capture was not the best of quality and the wind seemed to really mess up with the sound too. Does anyone have any suggestions for external microphones or other cheap but really good bits of equipment I could buy to fix the wind and quality problem especially when recording outside noise. If so I would really appreciate it 💛 if you could give full names of recommended products or equipment, or full details in advice. Thank you!

    As good as the Zoom H1n is for budget recording device, it isn’t suitable as external microphone for most cameras as it has only line output which is considerably higher gain than microphone output. The output volume control is apparently digital and cannot maintain audio quality on very low volume levels. Therefore you would need an attenuator which needs to be matched depending what kind of input audio settings your camera has.

  • @BuzzWorthy

    @BuzzWorthy

    The H1N can help you greatly. You can use it a many different ways with the Osmo Pocket; 1) You can use the H1N built in mics and record the audio to the H1N. 2) You can use the Osmo mic adapter and run a cord from the Osmo to the H1N to capture the audio. 3) You can run a lav/lapel mic from H1N to your son directly. 4) You can run a lav/lapel mic from your son then into H1N then into Osmo and this will save you the trouble of syncing the audio/video in post.

    @@mikepotapa5773 If you put a wireless lav mic on him you are going to have to connect a transmitter to him which he will probably find too tempting. I guess you could mount it on the back of his pants and carefully coil up the extra cord for the mic - that definitely could work, just be careful with the cords. I purchased and reviewed the Pixel WM-10 which has 2 transmitters and a receiver so you or your wife could wear one mic at the same time as your son if you wish. I don't think you can find a better 2 transmitter wireless lave mic for the price. If you only need to mic him up I don't think you can go wrong with the wireless Rode Go - no wires and only $200 I believe. Ted (Everyday Dad) reviewed the Rode Go wireless.

    Or you could plug the budget mic into nearly any smartphone and use it as a audio recorder for the cost of a TRRS cable at about $10 (or less), rather than a $120 audio recorder to plug in a $20/25 microphone into. The smartphone doesn't even need to be on contract to do this so if you know someone who has an old one it might even be free, and if you are truly on a budget free ninety-five is the best price.

    Most people I know prefer to use a recorder so that they don't need to worry about being interrupted by a call or have to put their phone into airplane mode for extended time.

    Not a fan of the takstar’s native audio....I would much rather use a lav mic and save up for an xlr setup

    Above all else...the proximity of the mic to the audio source will determine the majority of your sound quality. You can have the "best" mic in the world and it's going to sound like shit if it's not close enough.

    Do not buy a takstar, sound is whack. Although it does sound better on low cut filter on and 10db turned off. My Sony A5100 has better internal audio still..
