You need this as a filmmaker
This is the Expodisc 2. This little disc is used to properly adjust white balance based on the environment that you are in. No more guessing and no more auto white balance. This little device will make sure your whites are properly white and your skin tones are proper. I have saved myself so much time in post processing when color grading just because I'm starting to use this on all my video shoots. I'm not affiliated with expo disc I just like their products. It is from my understanding that the Expodisc becomes more of an "incident meter" so, while you are correct in putting it on the lens, in order to get "proper" white balance, you would need to then point the camera and Expodisc at the light source that is hitting the subject as apposed to just aiming it directly at the subject
