You Need a Square Clubface

One of my key checkpoints is the club-face at various places during the swing motion.
In this video I explore club face plane.
About the Single Plane Golf Swing
The Single Plane golf swing is not a quick fix golf technique. It is a system, beginning at address, that simplifies the most important moment of the golf swing - impact.
Starting at address on two planes where the arms hang straight down at address, the Conventional golf swing is complicated. Because the arms are hanging straight down, a conventional golfer must lift the body into impact creating stress on the back.
This upward movement to accommodate the two planes is unnecessary.
The Single Plane Golf swing simplifies the golf swing by eliminating the need for the upward movement by starting and impacting on the same plane.

Merci Todd, magnifique vidéo, c'est en effet une très belle mise au point de ce swing à un seul plan. Belle journée depuis la France

"I can hit it dead straight every time without really trying" is like me saying I can make that 8 hour road trip in my sleep. I am really enjoying this journey!

Great video Todd. I have been playing around with the single plane swing now for about two years. More of just a modified two plane swing. Beginning my swing with my hands raised up at address. It's felt good but a little inconsistent with pulls and pushes. So now I have started to keep my trail foot down and copy as closely as I can the true single plane swing. My first few days out at the driving range have been a little shake at best. Thin shots and leaving the ball out to the right. Not fading or slicing, just straight right. I am thinking alignment. Mostly my club face at address. When I set up with the club back behind the ball it seems to go further right. I did sign up for a one day class here in Phoenix and am looking forward to getting my golf game back in shape.

It’s like this one was made for me. I got zero issues hitting it left!

Can you use a trac man or flight scope so we can see numbers?

Do you think this is what Hogan found out to combat hitting a hook? I recall him saying he can go as hard as he wants without hitting it left… 3 right hands.

"Checking" the lead-arm bicep for proper deviation is a good way, at address, to ensure proper placement. My big issue is the transition at the top and even when on-plane, getting out of sequence (4-3 instead of 3-4) and tending to come over the top leading to slight pulls. I try to get the club still going "back" while my body turn is moving in the opposite direction but that is really hard to produce. Do you have any tips or a video on that particular issue? Thanks.

Todd just a question related to forward bend. Did Moe have more or less forward bend than the typical conventional golf swing? The reason I ask is I'm struggling to achieve the correct amount of sidebend at the moment. And looking at video of myself it seems a possible reason for this is I have too much forward bend. Problem is I can't seem to lessen the forward bend if I want to be able to sole the club. Many Thanks. Tim

Matt Fitzpatrick I have noticed seems to have a moe like pivot point. He doesn't point the butt end of the driver to his belt buckle. It points to the lead side of his body . Wonder did he get this from Moe?

So if one holds trail hand "Non rotational" all the way through the swing and does not allow the leading hand and arm to rotate back square to the ball that would be the straight to the left shot I had for a long time until a former Natural Golf instructor cured it by telling me to let it rotate with the lead arm/hand through impact. The cure was to also to position the trail hand more on top and less under "Your not Moe Norman".

I rotate my lead forearm to square the club to impact. The trail hand is non-rotational even though the lead hand is rotating. Sounds like your hands were too rotated to the right (strong) and it was closing the face. (also its "You're, not Your).

Moe finished his swing on the same plane. Why are you finish your swing in your left side?

I understand that you internally rotate your lead shoulder . And that makes your upper arm act as a limiter on the rotation of your forearm. But what prevents your shoulder from rotating back to a neutral place? Which would undo everything.

That’s a great question. The fact is that I am rotating as much as I can. I am maximizing range of motion what keeps me from over rotating by the limits set in place by the positions I described.

I know what you're asking. I think what Todd is saying in his reply above is that he's rotating his shoulder as much as he can, and he holds his shoulder in that position. Then when he goes into impact, he allows his forearm to rotate back to square, and since he's holding his shoulder in its "max" rotation, it ends up square. I've played with this for a long time and only recently am I able to feel this. I DO know what you mean by "your shoulder rotating back to a neutral place". If I don't hold my shoulder in its max rotation, then I can just relax shoulder and wrist, and that face is closed beyond belief.

But it's so easy to leave the face open with the timing of the left arm rotation variables. That's what I've struggled with.

A 3° inside path with a 3° open face hits the ball dead straight. It’s as long as you position the body the face will rotate correctly to match the path because forearm rotation is club path related

@@ToddGravesGolf That's the first thing I noticed when I started the SPS. I hit a ton of straight shots, even though they tended to be out to the right. I just had a tendency to have too weak of a grip and it opened at impact. Thanks for all you and Tim do Todd. Great program.
