Hi Susan. I think, if it's the last thing in a list, you can use them interchangeably. "D'abord, ensuite, enfin/finalement".
I'm so happy I found you! :) I'm up to Unit 30 in Duolingo French, I used to speak pretty fluent french 20+ years ago when I lived and worked in Paris, but it's largely disappeared over the years from not speaking it regularly.... your channel keeps jolting my memory and helping me along in regaining fluency - merci bien mon ami! :)

J'ai beaucoup aimé cette traduction anglaise! J'entends cet usage depuis des années (and getting the gist) mais je ne l'ai jamais utilisé moi-meme. C'est la raison pourquoi une explication d'un natif en anglais est si utile - ces traductions ont de la nuance. Merci! De plus, j'ai apprecié le sketch!

Found the translation enfin = basically very interesting. A good tip I'll try. Ever heard "M'enfin !" ? It's said in Northern France & Southern Belgium. This "Mais enfin !" means something like "How stupid !", "How preposterous !" & is often said by Gaston Lagaffe.

Enfin, Elle a arrivé

*elle est arrivée :) Arriver uses être as the auxiliary helper verb, as it's a verb of moving from one place to another. and with verbs in the past tense with être, you add the female/plural agreement e.g. elle est allée, je suis allée (for females), elles sont parties To clarify, my intentions are to help, and it’s better to speak French with a mistake than not to speak French at all! 🙂

You're not the most fluent or best pronouncing English, French speaker out there but I think you know that and it probably helps a lot in the aspect of learning from what you've learnt in your own journey which is possibly what makes the videos more useful than say someone who was clearly already bi-lingual or completely fluent as you know what others will be interested to learn. Sometimes your pronunciation is a little difficult to understand and I'm an English native, but generally it's not bad and clearly getting better compared to older videos.

I think you kind of summed up Alex's unique contribution to the world of French learning. He has a better grasp on what parts of learning French will be the most challenging for the native English speaker, in particular, than a French teacher who is a native French speaker. That is what I find most helpful about his videos. He is humble, humorous and kind hearted and quick to let us know if he has made an error along the way in his tips, so that we can learn that lesson along with him. He is more advanced than many, but also not as advanced as some of his own viewers. They watch these, I am assuming, to get his take on those French foibles that give English speakers the most trouble. I think he does a great job of engaging people and reminding us not to be perfectionistic. Progrès pas Perfection is his overarching motto......and that can be a really good thing to be reminded of, to avoid frustration and burn out on our journey to fluency.

Alex, please. In my opinion you are damaging your brand when you show up in such a silly get up. You look like Dana Carvey in "Wayne's World." It's not a good look. In my view it is inconsistent with the high quality instruction and valuable content you offer. In short it sends the wrong message and is inconsistent with the aims of your You Tube cannel.

Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, Margaret. I'm sorry you feel that way. I find that by creating characters and putting them in comedic sketches provides a way to put the language I teach into context via realistic conversation, with a humorous twist. I like to not take myself too seriously, and this type of production allows me to show another part of my creative side. I will certainly keep an eye on what the majority of my audience think via the comments section so I make sure I make videos that both I and the viewers (as much as possible) enjoy.

One needs creativity of all sorts when there is, or may be, a language barrier. Being hypercritical of others ,when NOT the instructor, glares that you are hypercritical of yourself and not self realized. Find a class or book, or counselor for self love and self acceptance and the world will be a better place
