You Just Have To Hear This BMW G310GS Owner Compare His Bike With My KTM 390 Adventure

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The KTM 390 Adventure is the hot new motorcycle in the beginner adventure bike segment and it is feature loaded. Traction control, switchable ABS, cornering ABS, plenty of power, but does that mean anything in the real world?
The BMW G310 GS has been around for over a year now and is relatively a simpler motorcycle. Basic ABS, no traction control, quite a lot less power, bigger price tag, but does that make it a lesser motorcycle?
Specifications on paper are one thing, but do they matter when a motorcycle hits the road? What the specifications never tell you is how a motorcycle is to live with on a day-to-day basis; how comfortable it is; how the handling characteristics might be; the service costs etc etc.
These are things that even reviewers can't tell you. After all, they have these bikes for a few hours and have to push out videos, articles and social media posts.
So, to get a real picture of what a motorcycle is like, there is no better opinion than that of an owner. An owner who has spent thousands of kilometres with a bike, and gone through a few services - because this man's opinion is based on experiences that nobody else can give you.
I happened to come across one such person - Aditya Vijayaraghavan - who has covered some 13,000 km on his BMW G310 GS. In this video, Aditya talks about his motorcycle and tries to compare it with the KTM 390 Adventure that he had a short spin on.
The answer to which is better - the KTM 390 ADV or the BMW G310 GS - might not be that simple after all. Watch this guy talk about both these bikes for 25 minutes, non-stop. Believe me, it is quite a treat and informative at the same time.
If you would like to know more about Aditya and his travels, you can check out his Instagram here: / ind_travelogues
If you would like to know more about my bikes and what I do to them, you can check out my Instagram as well; unlike my KZread channel, my Instagram get a updated with motorcycling awesomeness on a daily basis: / abhinavbhatt19
Thank you so much for giving me your time. I hope you have a great day.
Cheers

BMW is daylight robbery even here in the US! I rode the baby GS when it came out and, like many reviewers, stalled it many times and found it lacking the low end grunt too, apart from being very under-powered. Having recently ridden the KTM, I can say the KTM is more of a international motorcycle when it comes to power and features. As for riding in the dirt, you guys should do some training esp for dual purpose or big adventure bikes- where they will tell you that upright is not how you stand on adv bikes. You should always have knees bent, elbows bent, both not locked, slightly hunched over the handlebars (attack position)...though I do enjoy just standing upright (relaxing from sitting down) on a Himalayan, the right way to tackle trails is in attack position. That's how I can make even my FZ09 work on trails pretty well actually! ;) Another good video though- kudos!

Hi. I did hit the trail after shooting this video and yeah, I was in a slight attack mode most of the time. If was my first time out on a trail. Dear @Abhinav and @Aditya, came here after i saw a link of this video in recommendations, and dare i say, this is one good comparison video that kept me hooked till the very end. This kind of comparison is something i've never seen in any of the indian auto mag versions and certainly not by any of the mainstream indian vloggers till date. This video answered many of the questions that was lingering in my mind regarding these two bikes, big shoutout for that. The way Aditya spoke about the minutiae of the bikes' personas speaks volumes about his eye for detail and passion for motorcycling, not to mention his excellent command of the language(And yours as well, good sir). Dare i say, if this guy writes a book, i'm gonna buy and read it! I would love to see you guys do such honest comparison videos of other bikes as well given the chance, and would certainly love to see Aditya having his own channel here. Cheers, ride hard, ride safe.

I'm 6'2 and 240 lbs and haven't even been seated either, but according to reviews, KTM could be a bit cramped while on BMW the softness of the front suspension makes me wonder. I’m not buying the bike to only look at the TFT display. Both bikes are good. But the GS has my heart. ❤️

One of my friends just bought a pre owned GS310 and the first thing he did was modify the headlights. He got a pair of dual beam led lights and it was fairly easy to install them. He also changed the horn to trumpet horns from Bosch. So i dont think fiddling with the electronics is troublesome on this bike. I myself would go for the KTM owing to its ownership costs and a full set of features.

About the KTM rear monoshock rebound. I saw this trend start from the 3rd batches of the 2017 KTMs. Almost every bike bought after September had a very soft rebound. Now at first I thought that was a faulty suspension, but I saw this trend continue. Now all my KTMs had very stiff rebound and even preload (because I bought them before this trend), so far that I run my Interceptor's reload at 1 step below Max.

I can't speak about the BMW but the KTM does not heat up at all. I do feel annoyinng vibrations at the pegs though. Slight on the bars and mirrors too.

Definitely a lot better than the old BS4, infact it is better than the KTM as far as throw and spread is concerned. + that headlight vibration has been fixed.

What an honest review! I have the bmw, and yes its pretty confortable! I placed Oxford heated grips and led auxiliar lights from China for 50€. The only thing i dont like about the bike is the engine on high rpm, because its very "torquy" i'm thinking of changing the front sproklet to one with one more teeth to reduce its rpm's at high speeds
