Excellent. I'm going to spend some time on this video. Some great bass players were drummers before, like Mark King or Jaco.

YES! Retired professional drummer from L.A. here (videos on my channel) retired due to 14-foot surgeries, (7 on each) three lower back surgeries, one on each thumb, over 20 in all. I still play my electronic kit a bit but FINALLY bought a bass guitar! I have been playing with bassists for decades, I hear the bass line of any tune instinctively and am stoked to get good at playin it. I wanna learn the bass line to the theme song of Barney Miller (OG's like me know what's up...youngsta's look it up) I will definitely sub to this channel cause you get it.

Great video. I play keys and this concept also works on Hammond B3. Think like a drummer

This is exactly what I needed! I was just talking to someone about how to play more percussive like Louis Johnson when he slaps. This video really shows me where to begin. Thanks again

Awesome video. I always think of how lock in tight with a drummer (and do) but it never dawned on me to think LIKE a drummer for slap. It's like I got that percussive was a key part but I just never took it further than that. Definitely an "of course" moment haha. Really dug the triplets. Was that a triple pluck or the fret board tap thing? And that groove... Filthy nasty awesomeness right there. So good.

Wise philosophy...Marcus miller always states the important of groove and s locking in with the drummer ..that technique around the 3min mark is something marcus has been using since his late teens when he was playing with Lenny white in the lates 70s ... Marcus would mimick what Lenny white was doing on the snares
