    Great video. Perfectly captures how it feels in co-op. You have no idea what you're doing and get constantly slaughtered, but every time you play, something else clicks into place. Great game.

    I've got way too many hours played in this game. Love it. There's no "right build", and plenty of time to do what you want between quests with timers (and all the time you want between the starting quest chain and the faction quest line). Just get out there and do stuff! Which usually means spending a good part of the early game running away from critters trying to eat you. The replay potential is actually crazy. The more you learn about the game, the more new characters you want to make to try out different weapons and skill combos. Even if you end up with a "routine" on how new characters start getting their careers going, each experience is different as you wander around picking up bits and pieces.

    Also you start the game with a dagger slash ability, it’s really good. Also throw lantern and tripwire traps are your best friend.

  • @Hagelnot
    @Hagelnot Жыл бұрын

    the dagger is actually pretty sweet, but you have to select the dagger attack from your skills, this is one you always have at the start (same as the lantern throwing), because dagger is treated as secondary weapon, like shield too. therefore you cannot attack with the mouse buttons. I recommend you both make a fang weapon, they are nice early on :) glhf

    In the first playthrough we all made every possible mistake. Thats why consecutive playthroughs feel more fun. Gaining knowledge is rewarding and can be used in practice and not spoon feed like so many games out there guiding though every move you do and end up boring.

    Yes! I love the lack of hand holding after games like Horizon. While beautiful and smooth, it has ZERO room for real exploration. We also play Star Citizen so our love for not being spoon fed directions existed, and Outward is scratching that itch in a fantasy setting

    @@GFFBud The better question, for me, is why DO people like it? The ONLY answer I am given when I ask this is, "you just gotta get used to it, then it gets way better" but, like, this is literally the case with most things. Simply getting used to something does not make it fun. It makes for complacency with terrible design and mechanics. If you want a specific answer from me, here: all of it. The combat mechanics are wack. The creatures and people don't seem tied to the same rules as you. When I get hit, I stutter. Absolutely NOBODY stutters when I hit them, not even apparent weaklings. EVERY SINGLE time I get hit by something, I get some kind of disease. I can't leave Cizero, or whatever it is, because there is either a group of bandits, or hyenas at the very first fork in the road. Going through the storage room is impossible for me, since the troggs 2-hit me. EVERYTHING seems to have the same swing speed, from a halberd to a shortsword. Which is NOT how it works at all. While reach seems to be influence, I have to get right up to someone when I wield a halberd. Should not be so. Are you facing an opponent directly, and blocking? well, the opponent did a side swing and hit your ribs, now you're dead or diseased . Your block and facing the opponent was useless, since they swung sideways, and you can't block sideways. It is near impossible to make money at any reasonable rate. Why can't I make weapons and sell them? I tried to make some clubs to sell, even for some measly 3 or 4 gp. I know how to grind, I have 15 years in RuneScape. You can't even sell weapons you make from the wood you can gather all over the place. You can't pick up the campfires, needing you to stop and make a new one EVERY TIME. Even cooked food has made me ill. I don't care how close something is to rotting, it is NOT rotten until it IS rotten. Even with 1/465 durability. Still NOT rotten. Too bad about my opinion, though. It will be a very nice and sunny day, yet I will be freezing to death. Like, how? Too bad, since I can't make any armor or any clothes without making money or killing, which seemingly can't be done. I've spent 13 hours playing, am on day 47 and haven't even left the starting city. I rage so hard at the game I can't even remember how I got the money to get the people off my back for the blood pact. I play for like 25 minutes at a time before I Have died 12 times and lost literally ALL of my pocket and satchel to bandits, requiring me to start over. TO summarize why I dislike the game, lack of progression at any reasonable rate. It seems like if you don't look up guides and watch videos, you're not going anywhere. This is like cheating to me, to have to be walked though the game from the start. To have people telling you the answers, because the game presents problems with no solutions in reach. Am I the one playing, or is the person guiding me vicariously playing through me?

    It's fun. It's engaging, relaxing, atmospheric, and rewarding. It has fantastic visual storytelling and worldbuilding. The combat works fine, you just have to learn it. It's not as refined as some other games, but it's not broken. Learning the intricacies feels daunting, but once you do, building your character's skillset and gearset up to take on the late game bosses is very fun. If you could sell clubs you'd have infinite money the instant you started the game. You can make weapons and sell them, and that's actually a great way to make early game money... just not crappy clubs. The "safest" way to make silver early is to be a fisherman for a few days and sell cooked meals and ice rags. Just a few days doing that will net you enough to get the blue sand armor from the smith, and it's good enough to take you all the way through the main story. I recommend everyone play through unspoiled. I did and I don't consider myself a particularly skilled gamer. Spoilers aren't necessary AT ALL to finish the primary questlines. I'm in my 40s and my first Outward playthrough was one of the best gaming experiences I've had in my lifetime. Overcoming the early game frustrations is part of the process, and some people won't have the patience for it. And make no mistake, I DID share some of your thoughts at first. But the more I stuck with it, the more I realized that my initial assessments were wrong. That's why people like it. But it's ok that you don't like it. It's a niche game, but it's not garbage.

    @@knifemind Ah, the classic "but once you get used to this trash system". THAT is the complacency that allows for terrible games to exist. You want a pretty looking game, go mod Skyim to death. You can make that game look any way you want to. AAAANNNNDDDDD you can make progress without someone holding your hand thought literally every single move you could make. I have not found a single player online who was able to do anything or start playing the game seriously, WITHOUT first looking up a guide on how to even leave the starting city. If you have to look up how to even start the game, despite there existing an obvious and separate tutorial from the main game, then you have a trash game. "if you could sell clubs, then you'd have infinite money" well, sir, that is part of the TRUE RPG experience, being able to take advantage of little quirks. It's not a glitch, that is a restriction purposefully put in place to make the game more painful. In a true RPG, I should be able to play my role. Part of the things people praise is "all the ways you can play". Except crafting You can't be an artisan of any kind. It is exclusively about the terrible combat system. So, really, the game isn't about "all the ways you can play" just all the different ways you can FIGHT. The combat is just bad and broken. I beat Mortal Shell in around 6 hours. When combat works, it works. This game does not work. That ONE aspect of the game HAULTS every other part of progression.

  • @knifemind

    @knifemind

    But it's not broken. It works fine. Watch anyone who knows the game and it's obvious. But you asked why people DO like it. I answered. I don't play Skyrim. Don't like it. I tried Mortal Shell and felt probably the same way about it as you do about Outward. Does that make it garbage? Obviously not. All of your issues with Outward seem to actually be subjective. But to reiterate, that's fine. Variety exists because people are different.
