I love the "Winter is coming" banner in your background. The Stark family motto from the _A Song of Ice and Fire_ novels is essentially a shortening of "Strong Men make Good Times, Good Times make Weak Men, Weak Men make Hard Times, Hard Times make Strong Men." And talk about a perfect banner for this song.

Big truth. Blue collard 29 here. Colorado Springs Colorado, refinery trash from Texas covering the Rockys these days with two kids. The lyricism just before that exact lyric scheme is lost on most. @4:35 I wish politicians would look out for miners, not just minors on an island somewhere. That one is tough, we want the heads of tyrants, but does the day to day become warped with past tense shit that should of never happened to begin with? To me it just simply says here it is today, we the people heard the news too, we're furious but so many fucking days happened since then and what is the result and why are 'mine' still hungry?

That line about young men just kills me every time I hear it. So many fine young men lost to our war on masculinity. Gangs, drugs, drink, suicide, hopelessness, its a damn, damn shame.

It's so true. My dad left when I was 17, I was a junior in highschool, supposed to graduate in 2016. I told him I would be okay, and I really believed it, but unsurprisingly I was not. I was already not doing well, I had a very tumultuous childhood. When I was just 6 years old my mom warned me not to hit my head because I would go to sleep forever and not see anyone again. I had already developed sleeping as a coping mechanism, so I tried to lean off my bed to hit my head on the carpet floor rather than the tile so it wouldn't hurt as bad when I went to sleep. So my father leaving to move across to the other side of the country was a kick in the teeth when I was already on my knees. Internally I crumbled and once I turned 18 my high school terminated my enrollment due to poor attendance because I would be gone for weeks at a time crying and contemplating suicide. No one gave a shit about me, people I called friends didn't send a single word of concern my way during that whole struggle. I tried to escape in video games, youtube and other internet activities. Sometimes it helped, other times I couldn't escape all of the media telling me that I was an awful oppressor ruining the lives of women and minorities because I was born with white skin and a Y chromosome. My own mother couldn't conceive of what to do with me and wouldn't even try to figure out what was causing my suicidal thoughts. She tried to get me institutionalized into a mental ward multiple times. All I needed was someone to extend a hand and not blame me for being broken, just hear my cries and wipe my tears. It's a miracle I'm alive, and I'm glad that I am now. I'm doing much better, but it pains me to see young men going through what I did and worse. When I try to talk to women about these issues that young men are facing they are often dismissive and play the "well it's worse for women" card when I never tried to make it a competition. Our country needs to heal. Our boys need our love and support. We need to stop playing the divisive identity games and get back to caring for people.

Exactly this. It is sooo deep and layered. I’ve watched about 60 react videos now and every time it just expands and hits different- but yes THIS- the attack on young men- it’s all these ways. Just like the line about the obese milking welfare- that’s not only individuals misusing the safety net, it’s also the banks and corporations on corporate welfare, and the money laundering going on over there near Russia. $700 per household in Maui, $13B to zelensky. It’s a damn shame.

"Oliver Anthony really does punch down on the poor. The lives of ordinary working people are being torn apart by the rich, he laments, but we can fix it if we cut welfare - and taxes too. Listening to the lyrics in that context, I came to understand why the song had gone viral among rightwing figures in the US. It’s a classic example of the divisive narrative that bosses have used to pit worker against worker since the days of Joe Hill. If the poor are fighting one another over racial hierarchy or cultural grievance, their anger will be directed away from the people responsible for their plight - the rich who exploit those in work and abandon those in need." Billy Bragg 2023
@schmiddy8433

@@DjWellDressedMan that's the dumbest take I've ever seen. The whole reason people are struggling is because of insane inflation and taxes to pay for the totally corrupt build back better push and welfare state. If funding the welfare state creates more recipients to the welfare state it's NOT doing it's job. The point of the song is a lot of us wouldn't be struggling if we didn't need to prop up people exploiting the system, and the system doesn't even properly help many of the people who are straight up starving.

This song deeply resonated with me, Oliver's genuine emotions matched the deep frustration that is all too common for the once 'mighty' middle class. Every government solution involves us all giving up a little more. The common people must realize we are ALL just cogs in the machine, put away our political boundaries to stand together against the corrupt ruling class. I will be a loyal fan of Oliver Anthony.
This is why they control the flim stars and musicians. This is just one song, but the feelings and the message it stirs in you is so powerful you can only imagine if more of the actors, singers/rappers jumped onboard without worrying what their puppet masters would say what a better world we would live in.

This year and last has been full of great sounds but this one takes the cake. Possibly one of the best songs ever
This song is my new anthem on the current world. Love it.
My husband and I got married young, (19, 21). My husband decided he wanted to work in the oilfields to get a skilled trade. He got a job in the desert in the middle of nowhere. I didn't want to be without him so we went together with our baby. He worked like a dog, 90 hours a weak maintaining oil tankers, worked his way up, but it was a rough few years. It was very isolated, we lived in a camper, spotty electricity, no wifi, no laundry facilities, I washed clothes in a barrel like we were out on the prairie, but we made it, listening to this song makes me think about my husband stumbling home absolutely exhausted from a days work, covered in fuel, and just needing a hug. He would hold our baby and I would hold him and he would just sleep. That line about kicking men down hit me so hard 😢 I made damn sure my husband didn't have to do anything when he got home, but I was the only woman on the yard, most wives were far away in the houses these men paid for. Brutal lives and then rich academics and politicians pontificate on the evils of men amd it infuriates me

I feel for you dude, you listen to this song and there is literally nothing more relevant, profound or insightful than what Mr. Anthony is laying down. Truth. Truth to power.
I was a music major, sat 2nd chair at 13 in my band. Mostly brass here. I like your take. I had to give up my love of music because of life. This hits me on so many levels. That voice is untamed, its real, untrained and yet so capable of translation of emotion. The politics came about 8 times afte me hearing this. The body language and the grimace... My God.
It's real and its raw, like country is supposed to be. Country music has not had any emotion or actual message for a decade. Thank you for this sir, we needed this in more ways than one.
Absolutely incredible, and the absolute truth spoken by a true American!
The Natural Ampe Theater he's singing this song in, is what makes it "HISTORIC"!!! The song RESONATES its simplicity and reality in the open-air sound garden with Conviction and BRUTAL HONESTY!!! Well Done Oliver... "WELL DONE"... SALUTE!!!

Thank you!
Dude. Spectacular. Been perusing reaction videos to this song, every single vid like yours. From both political parties, every religious belief, doesn't matter. Spectacular song, incredible voice, superb skills, and even better lyrics. You did a great job reacting, deserve more subs.

Thanks man! Much appreciated
There are parts in there where he's not really even singing. He is basically yelling in anger - the emotion is incredible, and powerful!
Oliver Oliver Oliver!! you are a talented and exceptional young man.. Thank you for sharing this meaningful and beautiful song. Millions of us feels the same way..Forgotten and thrown into the cracks. God bless you. 🙏🏼❤️🥰
Needless to say, this has blow up in past couple days, but when you read comments you see people from Russia, England, Spain, Greece and many more commenting the same sentiment. This is a global anthem as much as an American one.
Thank you for this Conversation Old Stone Run! It was the Perfect 'Concert on Air'. That Song was tremendous; I give him a Million Votes! Excellent prose, I Love it! What Heart He Has! So Enjoyable! THE Truth!!
I’ve probably watched his video 39 times in 2 days & it still brings tears to my eyes.
When he says the "New World," it reminds me of the globalists' New World Order..."you will own nothing and be happy." You can tell Hank Williams Jr. is a musical influence of his. A really powerful song.
Increíble voz , me llegó al alma y eso que aun no se lo que dice en mi idioma, saludos desde España 🇪🇦 , espectacular
Been waiting for the this for so long. I have seen recently the former troubadours and protest singers of the 70's live, and none are offering anything anymore, except they are very rich. They once denounced wars, corporations, the needy. Not anymore, they are part of the problem, rich hippies. Well done man.
This song is perfect timing as all or most Americans feel his pain n why this song so popular! God Bless you Oliver Anthony! 🙏🥰
Gives me goosebumps when he sings and I'm an old fucking man
This is what music should be! This man.. is brilliant
Great voice. Great song. Great beard. Dave from Alaska.

Yo. Eagle River.
So, i actually live in the same town as this guy, around here when anyone talks about the area, it's "North" or "South" of Richmond. The differences between the two halves of the state is night and day.
Love you broke down that there is millions of things from a few simple lines. But most seem to miss : For People Like Me and "People Like You". That is what surely sends it home to everyone.
This song is the working class anthem. Nevermind in just America, up here in Canada too, world wide. This is Revolutionary.
LOVE IT!!! Great Voice..
