One really interesting thing to note that not a lot of people talk about are the lines "sometimes killing is a must" and "sometimes sneaking is a must" in this song. Odysseus has the time, cunning, knowledge, and ability to stop anyone from opening the bag, such as by pretending to sleep, waiting for someone to take the bag from him, then killing the traitor to make an example of them so no one else risks trying to open it. But he's not willing to do that. So instead of relying on the wit that has kept him and 600 men alive for 10+ years he tries to brute force it by just staying awake. But the crew is willing to do whatever it takes to see what's in the bag, such as betraying his trust and sneaking behind his back to steal it while he's asleep. If Odysseus had listened to Aeolus' warning that sometimes killing is a must, he and 592 men would have made it home safe and sound. Of course that doesn't justify the crew opening the bag in the first place after he warned them. I'm just appreciating some normally underappreciated lines.

They made the casting for Aeolus gender blind, cuz with wind being ever changing and fluid the gender of the singer is also non important and meant to a bit androgynous.

Every Epic casting is about capturing the character's vibes. One of the runners-up for Poseidon was a woman.

The worst part of when it was opened, in the Odyssey, and this animatic, they were within sight of the shore. They could see the farmers of Ithica. Aolus with her little spyglass looks from Odysseus' palace, down to him to emphasize just how close they had gotten.

What makes their decision to open the bag even more stupid is that, in the Odyssey, Ithica is LITERALLY IN SIGHT. They can SEE their home from the ships! And then they just have to go and ruin it…💀

I feel that’s why they did it also Like, not only taking advantage of the captain FINALLY falling asleep because he saw a glimpse of Ithaca, but they saw themselves so close to home that they maybe felt that the consequences couldn’t possibly be THAT bad, I mean, we can see the coastline already! How bad could it possibly be? (Spoilers: Horribly so!)

@@plaguedoctor2882ooooh honestly good take on that. They probably celebrated arriving home too early and bit off more than they can chew. What’s worse is that it’s only the men on Ody’s ship that has the bag. The other ships were otherwise clueless or weren’t affected by Aeolus’ taunting about opening the bag and got swept up in it anyway. I’d imagine they thought it was Ody who opened the bag and added more blame onto him.

Pretty sure there's a whole lot of artistic license taken on the design - but it is a really cute and fun design. This is truly one of my favorite animatics (and songs). The flow as the "camera" spins around the ships with Aeolus is just so impressive!

As long as you are aware Poseidon is also the God of horses, Anniflamma's version of Ruthlessness is exquisite! But if you want to stay with a visual consistency since this video is from Gigi, I'd watch her version of Ruthlessness because it's really a tie between the two whose is more favored in the fandom.

If you want it to have continuity, I suggest going for Gigi’s Ruthlessness. If you want it for the pure Poseidon Badassery (and have no fear of horses), go for AnniFlamma’s Ruthlessness. Both are amazing, it’s just that AnniFlamma’s horse imagery scares the living crap out of me

Now that you've finished the underworld saga, btw ithica was in sight. Odysseus' mom saw the storm and thought they died, so she drowned herself in the shore to be with him

Aeolus is such a fun character and I love all the designs people give him.

Titles are more leading in act 2 so if you want to avoid spoilers avoid the song titles until you're ready to react. He didn't trust his men because they sided with his 2nd in command in the previous song.

I reccomend AnniFlamma's version of Ruthlessness, it's super intense and one of my favorites aiside from Gigi's version!

You should turn captions on or have lyrics on another screen cuz u talk over from clues and references

Like the rest have said for Ruthlessness the go to is either from Anniflamma (which I ADORE) and Gigi(another wonderful one) and one I found recently which is also AMAZING from Tamatama.

Stupid decisions abound in this musical, and it always hurts! The crew's actions would be a tad more understandable if Odysseus hadn't TOLD them what was in the bag. I mean...even if you suspect your captain/general/king of hiding treasure, would greed/curiosity really be worth risking being wrong and releasing the storm when you're so close to home after ten long years?? I cannot imagine what the crew on the other boats must've had going through their minds this whole time...☠ I'm loving your reactions so far and am SO looking forward to the next song! Whichever version you choose (AnniFlamma and Gigi are the two mains), you should definitely watch the other, though ofc it doesn't have to be on stream. I hope you're enjoying Epic so far! ^_^

It's made even worse with the post-Scylla revelation of WHO opened the bag.

Yeah, they swapped out the old man Aeolus for the female form, and added, completely new characters, the Winions. I normally don't like such a drastic departure from source material but this really works.

Time to learn a lesson next time

In the original Odyssey by homer it wasnt random crew mates that opened the bag in the original it was eurylochus that opened the wind bag

It may have been mentioned before and perhaps it’s too late depending on your recording schedule, but Anniflamma has such a great animatic for Ruthlessness, the next song in the musical from your upload schedule, and while I’m at it be careful when you get to the Circe Saga because there are a few unfinished animatics out there, and of which there are also full versions by the same creators, Anniflamma also has some great ones for the last two songs in the Virce saga tho you have to make sure you’re not clicking on an unfinished version for those
