We actually have to believe in order to function. The idea that we don't have to have beliefs is itself a belief. Mathematics, physics, astronomy, the scientific method - all these rely on underlying beliefs that cannot be proved. We walk down the road *believing* that the law of gravity is not going to reverse itself. So the question is not whether or not we're going to believe - we're going to do it anyway. The question is what we're going to believe.

I think this video is very open and as a believer of God from a non believer. It's like an eye opener that in some circumstances in life we all get to have pass in this situation in our life. Well the world is just a circle and you can't identify sweetness without bitterness. Nice content :)

You are a unique sole. Honest, plain spoken, open and smart. There are some truths that have helped me in my journey and may I presume to briefly mention one of them? I see beliefs as assumed truths that are necessary in order to pursue our goals/live the life we wish to live. For example, if my goal is to experience the love of God, I must assume as true that God exists and that He wants me to seek Him and that He will reveal Himself to me and that He is worth seeking. Faith to me is being true to the goal even when temptations and doubts come up. Faith is not disregarding truth, rather it is the deliberate setting aside of the objections under the assumption that they will eventually be reconciled. A very powerful goal, especially to the young, is to gain the freedom to live as they choose and a belief in God doesn't help that cause.

I appreciate the honesty in wrestling through these things. I want to suggest another reason why God is hidden and requires faith. It's for the sake of grace. Without it, how could He show us grace? Because knowledge causes us to be accountable and blameworthy, since we are accountable to act to the standard of what we know. If God were to reveal all to us, especially His glory , we would be condemned! That is true throughout the Bible. The law brings wrath. Jesus said it would be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the judgment because the same mighty works that Jesus performed in Chorazin, Bethsaida, etc, were not performed there, so their ignorance made them less blameworthy. Now God wants to reveal enough that we can believe and be saved, but not so much to remove faith and make us condemned, until we are one day perfected and made ready for that reward.

Keep it simple as far as definitions and labels go and don't conflate them. Some of the people I've heard just start loading everyday words up with so much baggage that the words become useless. I tend to go straight to the dictionary as my starting point. The human mind is complex, so of course words won't easily sum up your experience but that alone is not a reason to burden words with more definitions... that's what long conversations are for. As for labels, we all have multiple labels, and they usually don't fit perfect.

Jesus was unable to change people's hearts in the bible when he was walking around - and he is even less likely to change people's hearts now that there is a just a 2000 year old book of unverifiable claims to go on. Belief and claims to knowledge are different. I am an agnostic atheist - I do not believe in god and I do not know that god exists and I do not know that god does not exist. I just use this label when asked so that when discussing with others, people can get a fair grasp of my position on these matters but of course that assumes they understand the terms correctly. One can talk about the validity and meaning and usefulness of labels - I don't bother with that. All that interests me is what people believe and why. Then we go from that point.

I don't want to be another Christian that tells you what to do, but I do know from personal experience in my relationship, that God loves everything about you, unconditionally. He enjoys the good, the bad, & the ugly with his warm smile of love. He sees nothing in you, but good. It's simple, he loved you so much that he died for you while you were still a sinner all you have to do is believe it.

Perhaps you have heard A Jew/Christian/Muslim make the proclamation that “With God, anything is possible.” We must test this assertion using the Scientific Method to determine, if indeed, the existence of Gods is possible. What are the properties of the existence we inhabit at this very moment? We arrive at three possible choices: 1. A place where nothing can happen. 2. A place where only some things can happen. 3. A place where anything can happen. Tests 1-2: Use your hand to pick something up. You have just determined that you do not dwell in an existence where nothing is possible, as well as having determined that you, at minimum, live in an existence where some things are possible-because you just picked something up. Test 3: Our test will be the ability to teleport to the Red Sea, and (as Moses did) part it/divide it in two with a wave of your hand. Take the time now to teleport yourself to the Red Sea and part it with a wave of your hand. You will discover that you cannot. And you have concurrently discovered that you do not inhabit an existence where anything is possible. If you inhabit an existence where some things are possible (picking up a pencil), if something you cannot accomplish in that existence (parting the Red Sea with a wave of your hand) becomes possible, then the existence you inhabit is an existence where anything is possible. But as our Red Sea test has confirmed we do not live in an existence where anything is possible. And that would be the existence we inhabit if there were a creature that could part the Red Sea with a wave of its hand. If anything were possible, anyone or anything (grass, chairs, leprechauns, Lions, your fingernail) could teleport itself to the Red Sea and part it with a wave of its hand if it so desired. For a Supernatural creature that can part the Red Sea on a whim to exist, the feasibility for a creature that can part the Red Sea on a whim must exist for a creature to be able to come into existence that can part the Red Sea on a whim. The supernatural must exist independently of the creature. The creature, after it has come into existence, cannot invent the supernatural. Reality/the very fabric of existence itself must be conducive to such feats. If this god exists, this world, reality as we know it would not be the case." And the scientific test you just attempted (parting the Red Sea) confirms it is not possible. This dictates that it is impossible for a creature that can accomplish the impossible/supernatural feats to exist: no Gods (deist or otherwise). This also confirms that the reality you are able to measure/note/observe-the natural world-does exist, and is the only existence there is, as we have demonstrated that the supernatural world does not exist.

Exactly, the dudes got a issue with definitions and common uses, conflates knowledge with beliefs, agnostic and Gnostic concerns knowledge and athiestism and thesism concerns beliefs. Labels help if you want to actually understand your fellow man and relay information accurately, if you're not concerned about being understood and happy to live in your own head then don't stress about labels I guess.

Believing is not Knowing, you're wrong there and fooling yourself. Believing is the same as faith. Faith is not a New Testament concept. The concept of faith predates the Old testament. Other faiths existed before Abrahamic religions and believing and having faith is a human thinking process.

COMPLETELY dissagree!! Anyone who says "you're wrong" about a philosophical concept, is wrong. philosophy and spirituality is grey. not black and white. And anyone who calls me a fool for having my subjective opinion (from years of studying and research) about something spiritual and philosophical, is a fool for thinking that they have the answer. Also Im using the bible as a reference, but Im not JUST talking about biblical faith.

You are very confused. Labels allow is to discuss concepts. In order for labels to be useful, the usage/definition must be understood by those engaged. Knowledge is a subset of belief. Belief is the acceptance that some premise is true, or likely true. Someone believes that a premise is true (or likely true) or they do not. This is binary, belief or not belief. All the tap dancing doesn't change that. These games are both sad and amusing because every one of the 40,000-odd Christian denominations disagrees . BTW, Jordan Peterson and smoking a bong are about the same thing, IMO. 😅
