Graham Potter is a magician, the man took a Swedish team from the 4th tier to winning the Swedish Cup and beating Arsenal at the Emirates in the Europa League, he then went on to turn Brighton from a relegation team to top 6 contenders. Now he has secured his retirement money and robbed plastic Chelsea, top bloke!

Chelsea fan here, agreed with everything Jamie said about the club. First Boehly got rid of any long standing staff who had any relationship with Abramovich, and these people are the heart and soul of the club…. Then Tuchel getting sacked absolutely broke my heart, I was so desperate for us to stop this culture of sacking managers when it gets bad, I mean when he won the champions league the season before under incredible circumstances and had the love and support of the fans who backed him over player power. So after that I just felt like my club wasn’t my club anymore…..football today is ruthless.

This obsession clubs now have with sacking managers during any short period of failing to get wins is doing football more harm then good imo. Clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool who have been patient with their manager and allowed them to build something over multiple seasons pays off massively and enables them to have long term success (I know this isnt the case for Livepool currently but thats more down to a lack of spending and replacing their ageing players). Imagine if more clubs had the patience to allow their managers to build something worthwhile and ride out the periods where results arent coming. We may see so many more teams playing great football.

I can't believe we're in the same season that saw Tuchel lose to Jesse Marsch's Leeds 3-0, and that infamous handshake with Conte (now all three managers sacked), and seeing Chelsea spend 600 mil over two transfer windows, AND now sacking the new manager already. And then you've got players that have been there for a while who are probably wondering if they're even wanted there anymore with all the new players being brought in. So the new players that come in then must feel like they're stepping onto a sinking ship. It's like throwing jewelry into a mud pit and expecting it to shine.

I completely understand but the quality of the players we have, we should be performing better than we have. And that falls at Potters feet. Lineups so questionable he has to chop and change in game. Team coming out and looking headless after 30 games. At some point, he has to be questioned and after 30 games the evidence has shown he’s not good enough for Chelsea - especially based on what you’ve become accustomed with. Makes no sense as to why he even got the shot in the first place. He had done nothing of merit to warrant it. As Carra summed up perfectly, you don’t go from Tuchel to Potter. Chelsea fans are iffy/against the idea of Poch & he’s done more to deserve it

It's that the job there is particular : players play without pressure, winning the ligue 1 each year, and being a money attraction for the club, while being protected by Nasser. Verrati never felt threatened. So no manager can do anything about such a situation. However, as Ian Wright said, the situation is crazy. They have a lot of young players with a 7 years contracts. So no pressure for them, if they are asked go leave, someone has go pay a lot for them, and otherwise, they are there for years in a comfort zone. Boehly really don't understand that sport..

I amazed that Chelsea has several long-term system while exploiting the short term deal and the success they had, but the new owner can't even understand basic football and spend here and there without any thought. @@sofnajias Kathy4697 says, their progress over the last 13 years has been absolutely exemplary. Tony Bloom takes over in 2009 with a long term view to bring the club up the footballing ladder, and is an early example of owners adopting an analytical approach to maintain sustainable club spending. They get promoted from League One to the Championship in 2010-11, and move to the Falmer Stadium (aka the Amex) in summer 2011, the first time they've had a home for 15 years. 6 seasons later, they get promoted from Championship to the Prem in 2017 under Chris Hughton. They break their record signing a couple of times (up to £13m) that summer but nothing like the spending we've seen from newly promoted Fulham and Notts Forest sides since then. Then they finish 15th in Prem in their first season, the highest finish in the club's history, and even dip into the top 10 at several points across that season. Second season started well, also got to the semis of the FA Cup, but had a sharp drop off towards the end leading to their (controversially) sacking Hughton. They appoint relatively inexperienced Swansea manager in Graham Potter and he leads them to 15th and 16th finishes. Then they came 9th in 21-22, and are currently pushing for Europe spots under Potter's successor De Zerbi. Throughout this, they have operated on a net positive spend. For about 3 years, their intricate passing and possession based style has been far more attractive than the styles of Man United, Spurs, Chelsea and (formerly) Arsenal despite those clubs spending hundreds of millions more every year. Every time Brighton get dealt a seemingly big blow, they've emerged stronger. Hughton sacked controversiallly, Potter brings them to new heights with a delightful playing style. Potter leaves for Chelsea, De Zerbi joins who appears an upgrade even on Potter. They bring in talent for cheap, sell them for lots, then repeat. Bissouma goes to Spurs for £50m, everyone thinks Brighton are going to struggle, then £5m Caicedo steps up and is now allegedly worth £70m. Evan Ferguson, Mitoma, Sanchez, Ben White, all these players brought in for >£10m massively appreciate in value during their Brighton tenure and, when they're sold for tens of millions, Brighton pull out another cheaply acquired gem in their place. And repeat. They're the epitome of a sustainable, competitive, progressive club. They're really engaged with their fanbass, the owners are very in touch and democratic and passionate about the club. In my view, Brighton might be the best run club in Europe. And it's a shame that, despite being so well run, they might never break into the top 4 permanently because of the wealth gap. If anything, the biggest argument for strict Financial Regulation in football is that a team can be as perfectly run as Brighton, and yet still hardly stand a chance of competing for top prizes. We desperately need financial regulation (From a Liverpool fan)

I think that he'll have no regrets about joining Chelsea. His stock was peaking at Brighton, and so I understand why he chose to cash in on his popularity at that moment in time. While I agree that he should have remained at Brighton, he had nothing to lose and everything to gain by moving to Chelsea. After all, the worst that can happen now that he has been fired is that his reputation will reset to pre-Chelsea levels, which is hardly a disaster.

Takeaways from Potter's sacking: • The only person we should do the long term manager thing with is John Terry (Mr. Chelsea). He's the only one who deserves it, not now though... • It's gonna be a while before we see an elite English manager. • A philosophy coach like Potter needs a pre season. So even the timing of his appointment was off. • He's not a manager fitting of the Chelsea fc profile... it sometimes looked like a farmer at a Louis Vuitton catwalk. Moving on... • Don't make the same mistake twice with Nagelsmann. • All eggs in 1 basket now. The one I want is Zidane but he's too elite... so let's get Poch & have a decent shot at winning the UCL & playing in it next season. Don't delay.

CFC fan here. Agree with everything said except last 5 seconds. Poch with that adjusting mentality to compromise winning fits Spurs. Its between three good managers for us: Enrique, Nagelsmann, Amorin. Nagelsmann has the players in place for his style, but is young and skateboard type. Enrique has the maturity and will get good youth academy to back, but will ask for creative players to generate creativity in short spaces upfront. Amorin has a little bit of all out of Nagelsmann, Enrique and Poch. fans would accept anyone of these three. Just dont let Poch anywhere closer than 50 metres of Stamford Bridge. Spurs is waiting for him. PS: Can we agree with Lampard as interim role before the UCL fixture. It would be a win-win for both parties and Lampard can rebuild his credibility as a manager.

This is my first witness Carragher has been mutual and not one sided... A fair comment 100% in agreement - the new owners are running a business and will be selling and buying they'll get burnt soon rather than later, they will learn the hard way. I'm a Blues Fan this really disappoints to witness we are 11th and falling. Potter's (+ his support staff) work ethics and ideology was stuck at picking up a point there and scrapping a win here and was overwhelmed by a three day break routine of consistent winning expectation - for him it was a hard lesson that will stick and would appreciate to coach at Champions League level

It is allegedly reported that Potter was given an opportunity to speak to the owners before his sacking. Whatever he told them obviously did not inspire any confidence on their side. He simply wasn't cut out for it. Underperforming as Chelsea may be, make no mistake they have an embarrassment of talent in every department (maybe except the goalkeeping department). A great coach would look at this team and rub his hands at the idea of coaching such a group of players.

When managers are sacked the people who appointed them should also pay some penalty for appointing them in the first place. It should be in the contract, to have to pay some financial penalty themselves. They would be thinking twice then before first of all appointing the manager and then just scapegoating them when it doesn't work out.

As someone fairly new to following football, it's strange to me how fickle it is. One day a player is a world class talent, the next he can't get into the team. Managers get sacked quickly. Big sides can have too many good players, and can't to manage the squad right and get results. I'm used to American sports so it really stands out as different to me. I understand a lot of it is down to the format of the competition, being that every result matters. But it is wild to me
