You Don't Find Happiness, You Create It | Katarina Blom | TEDxGöteborg

Why is it so hard to find that life of meaning, and connection, and happiness we long for? Why can't we just live in our "happy place" all the time?
According to psychologist Katarina Blom, the brain is not always on your side when it comes to well-being. Survival, absolutely. The rest, not so much. But there is hope!
In this personal and inspiring talk, Katarina Blom lets you in on a few secrets of the mind - and how you can cultivate happiness by befriending your brain. Katarina Blom is a psychologist, a co-founder of a gym for the mind, the first author to publish a Swedish book on positive psychology, and she is the creator of one of the biggest digital platforms on psychology in Sweden. Also, she is an Acroyoga instructor. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I am praying for you. Also know that every moment is an opportunity for a new beginning. I took on being the kindest most compassionate person I am able to be about 8 years ago. I am far from perfect though I have so much forgiveness for myself and others now. I believe that every thought, action and feeling we have has a huge impact on ourselves and the world we live in. Taking this into account I strive to create a world worth living into. Obviously this may be a bit extreme for some people. Still just loving yourself enough to forgive yourself is so valuable to who you are being to yourself and others. It is powerful and you deserve forgiveness, we all do. Forgiveness will permeate into your words and actions. You will more than make up for any regret you are currently suffering. Please consider you are a valuable contribution to this planet and move forward with certainty 💗

I'm personally valuing friendship a lot. However, chance are I won't always say/demonstrate-it "actively" (I say a lot of positive things thought when I think about it, but I can also be isolated for long, not talking to some people I value because I just have nothing to say, etc. and they might "feel X" without knowing or forgetting how much I care about them... some others have no issues with that and we can not talk for 1+ year and next time we talk it is like 10 years ago when we were talking daily, same acquired respect... but I can also just not say all I think or feel awkward or whatever... and that won't mean I don't care even if someone might feel like it). I am not saying everyone care, far from this, some don't give a F... But we should not assume something we don't know that easily. We, humans, are very good to create negative scenarios in our head. Don't conclude on them too easily. It is OK to wonder, but if you can have multiple hypothesis, don't conclude on them, like, you can think people don't care or they care AND just don't say it. Who know? That being said, don't stop to being a good person! There are a lot of good people that care out there too. :)

Wow amazing speech!👏🏻 I think this video is so suitable for young people in their 20s, including myself, who are in the early stages of quarter life crisis. In this phase we begin to question what goals and achievements we should get in our life. One of them is happiness. We wonder "where can I find happiness?", "how to find happiness?". It's all about "finding happiness". Whereas happiness is a skill that we all can work on. I’ve heard many people say that "happiness is created from ourselves, not be sought", I never believed that sentence until I finally did it myself. We should control our action not just about our positive thinking to create happiness, because if we only worrying our thought about how to be happy, it won't change anything. Let’s start an action to creating happiness by ourselves for a better life.

Such truly words about our thoughts. This is always hard to control them, and we can’t just get over our negative and obsessive thoughts, but we can overcome our desire to do nothing. We are all human and our main goal is to create meaningful connections between each other, to create trusting relationships, sharing our love, emotions and feelings with each other, because happiness doesn’t exist if it isn’t shared. I wish everyone to find the right person with whom you will truly happy and with whom this amazing feeling will be shared

Wow... out of the blue I text friends to tell them how much I love them and what they mean to me. I am constantly building bonds between me and some 10-15 friends. I have always had an amazing circle of friends who I appreciate and care for. I have always thought of myself as someone who is always upbeat and happy and people often tell me that. But I still appreciated this talk.

I had the same problem getting a good restful night sleep because of my extreme anxiety, severe depression & insomnia, so i feel you 🙋🏼‍♀️ It would get so bad at times it made me cry & get so frustrated, thank soon after, nausea & migraines would join the all night pain party. I spoke to my doctor and i researched everything possible (i was up all night anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️) and i learned that just changing a few small things within my diet, and adding a few things to my daily routine… and within a few weeks, i was sleeping better & feeling better, and then within 3-4 months the doses of my depression & anxiety meds were nearly cut in 1/2. Stay positive, you’re not alone Namaste 🙏🏻 ***what I deleted/changed within my diet*** Switched my regular coffee to 1/2 caf 1/2 decaf and replaced my usual cream & sugar to steevia & light vanilla almond milk. No sodas, lots of water and flavored water beverages. ***what i added*** 30 minutes a day of physical cardio exercise.… my choice was walking my dog and on rainy or cold days my stationary pedal cycle. And i would listen to a calming meditation music after a good soak in a hot bath before bed. It really is the smallest of things that we all can change, add & switch around that can make the biggest of changes in our lives ♥️

The way the speaker gave the talk so clearly allowed me to understand it well. This video helped me realize that in order to achieve happiness, it is also necessary to act not only with positive thoughts. I also still have trouble controlling my thoughts and emotions which makes me sometimes uncontrollable and makes my mood messy. The speaker also informed about the idea of a "psychological gym" introduced to train happiness skills. This video highlights the importance of building good habits, especially in relationships, for lasting happiness. I am very grateful to the speaker for sharing information that can be useful for all of us to create our own happiness. Thank you
