One of the best marvel selects. I remember when selects were glorified statues. We are itching our way closer to getting more articulation but keeping the same adult collectible feel with the paint apps and details on figures. If only hasbro learned something from diamond select.

I like this new version of "inching our way" haha "itching our way" that is awesome! Diamond Select only sometimes manages to scratch my itch, otherwise some of their figures look pretty weird and even feel very stiff (in the past anyway), but some of the designs or sculpts are so cool seeming to me and they almost always look higher quality or fancier than Marvel Legends while being roughly the same prices sometimes or even less than some of the Marvel Legends on the after market occasionally. I actually have a lot of Diamond Select figures, a lot of which are boxed as well, and I even have "Art Asylum" figures which was some earlier thing or connected somehow. I'm excited to get them opened some day because the boxed are pretty insane seeming lol they are so humungous and take up so much space. I have some from all kinds of different series besides Marvel. I'd probably like to get that gigantic red robot Maximilian from Disney's The Black Hole someday too, but it is a low priority. I want Mephisto to be re-released and I'll probably get him, but I also think he looks sort of horrible and ugly as compared to some of the comic appearances where he might look cooler to me, maybe they could improve it, but even if they just re-release it, I'm likely to purchase it, the currently available versions are too expensive. If the that gift Mephisto has been kept, which I think it should absolutely be kept, I'd like to see that figure make more appearances in the videos for comparisons and appear behind scenes. I'd also like regular appearances of all Diamond Select figures that are available to re-appear with the Marvel Legends and others, like Titanium Man, Mephisto, Hulk, and whichever others you may have or get. Some good ones to consider adding for comparisons might be the Sabretooth, and if you can tolerate over-large types that seem like video game bosses (which is how I like my villains to me) then the Magneto and a certain version of Carnage as well. Cable also looks pretty cool and I don't have that one, and I've also wanted a closer look at the Psylocke. They probably have many others that I'd be interested in. I have some kind of almost classic looking Cyclops, brown and possibly also yellow Wolverine, Sabretooth and Zombie Sabretooth, Magneto, Ghost Rider, Daredevil possibly but I'm not entirely sure, Mar-Vell, Gambit, Spider-Man in two different versions, Taskmaster from the Disney Store so in an original costume and not the MCU film version, Abomination, Titanium Man, Thanos, and then lots from other franchises which aren't Marvel, and I might have missed some other Marvel ones, I have the Red Hulk, Apocalypse, and Beta Ray Bill all on pre-order as well. I'm interested in The Watcher sort of, but then also kind of iffy on it, it looks undeniably perfect and I like it way more than whatever the Marvel Legends has just released for a Watcher character, but I just don't know if I need more characters with giant heads other than M.O.D.O.K. Oh yeah! I just read another comment below and I remembered I have Colossus and Storm as well in the Diamond Select forms, and I'm alright with Storm at that height and I definitely wanted a big and imposing Colossus figure! Oh yeah! Another comment reminded me that I have a Destroyer figure as well! Oh and that reminded me that I have some version of Thor too in the Diamond Select form!

Marvel Select has limitations on how much articulation they can put on a figure. However, they have progressively been able to add over the years. Believe me, they've come a long way from almost being a statue to even getting foot swivel and double knee joints. The Select Hulk is my favorite between the two. However, I do collect both scales. I've pre-ordered Marvel Select Apocalypse, Red Hulk, Vision and Beta Ray Bill.

I have select Hulk and Legends Hulk and it is hard to choose for me. The Select head sculpt is exactly as Dave said, looks like someone posing vs. someone that is actually mid yell. I also really like posing Legends Hulk with those butterfly joints all the way back. Select wins on paint and those feet though, plus the size. If I had a Legends Hulk head the same size as the Select one I think Select would win hands down, even without the butterflies.

Also, if you don't have the shirt accessory from Hasbro, you can rip up a piece of paper-towel / kitchen-roll, or cut up a hand towel or something lol. I really enjoyed this review and the final rating as well, the figure looked really nice, the comparisons were a lot of fun, everything looks great visually, the colors were so nice, and I also like the Dr. Doom with the lighter and brighter colors. There were a lot of jokes and silly things said throughout the review which I appreciated, and I also noticed and laughed at various small bloopers or Easter Eggs like the sound of something falling while in the audio mode early on, and also almost saying something in the black & white mode but then not being able to think of what to say and going into mup mup mup or whatever lol it sounded like maybe "What will the neighbors say" or something might have made sense there, but I love little things like that and videos to be goofy and slightly broken like old "Public Access" television lol. The messier the videos, while still being high quality, I think there could be a lot of enjoyment in just having silly elements going on and things seeming much more loose and real. I also really liked the relatable and true "seed in the teeth" reference haha, which I recently went through, and helps humanize all this sort of thing, including the reference to the back butterfly joint anatomy stuff also and the observation about how it looks like a person posing and frozen for a picture "gah ih yeh?" ( "Got it yet?" because they have to keep their mouth opened for the artist to capture the pose haha) rather than how the other Hulk seems to be in the middle of action or dialogue potentially, which is an important point too and important also for artists to note. So there was a lot of commentary in this video which was entertaining and also useful and relatable, making it one of the better figure reviews. You've not done too many or for too long and they are already improving rapidly. See, these are very intelligent things that end up being brought up and they help people to really carefully think about these figures and not just blindly buy things, but to really give it a little more time and use their minds when looking at and comparing the nuances of a sculpt or design. I'm about to re-watch all the Robocop films now.

Glad that finally someone agrees with me about this figure, I think he's great and this is absolutely my go-to Hulk for my classic Avengers/Marvel heroes shelf. I've seen the 80th anniversary Hulk in person a couple times and I had him pre-ordered and I just didn't like the figure, I wasn't a fan of the shade of green (too dark) and I didn't really like either of the face sculpts. I didn't even know that this Select version existed until I saw it at my local comic shop and I thought for sure with the size and weight it would be at least 50-75 bucks, but they had him for the 29.99 price and they were having a 20% off sale on all toys that day so it was an instant buy for me! I had finally found my classic Hulk! Then when I had put some pics up on a Facebook group a couple people said that the figure was way too tall or lacked the articulation to go with a Marvel Legends display and I was like, well sorry but, gotta disagree. I think the size is absolutely perfect, I want him to be that big when compared to the other Avengers and I have no problem with the joints/style being slightly different from the legends figures, I think he looks fantastic alongside "my" classic Avengers - the 20th Cap, Iron Man (AI version is the one I like the best), and Thor (painted the eyes on the Ragnarok figure)

The waist does swivel, but it's super tight. No butterfly joints, but the arms can move further forward than the Legends which is better than back only butterfly joints in my opinion. I believe Legends and Select hired the same studio to sculpt both of these figures, and the Select sculpt really feels like an improved second draft. That being said, the Select is too big for my diorama action shelf, so I have to keep both. Woah is me

Good point about the 80th Hulk head feeling more "alive" than the Select. However, I think I might actually like the head sculpt of the Select more... except for the eyes. The eyes don't seem quite right. I do prefer the bigger body and color variations on the Select, but the lesser articulation is a bummer. Articulation is much better than how they started, though. I do not like the bigger feet on the Select, they seem silly and out of proportion. Head seems a bit big, but I can live with it. I'll be honest, I love the Marvel Select figures I got, especially for the big guys, and I'm always pleased when I open one (okay, I like my Watcher, but I miss articulated legs) . Always lots of bang and value for your buck with Select, as opposed to Marvel Legends where it's a crap shoot. That Human Torch is a bit too big for Legends scale, unless you put him in the back of the display, but what a gorgeous, underrated figure with wonderful translucency, a great flaming stand and nice accessories. It "torches" the Marvel Legends Torches.

The select one is infinitely better. If the 80 year one had butterfly joints that actually functioned and allowed the arms to go forward, it'd be closer I don't understand the comments about the select one being a boojie alternative (more expensive) either, since...it's not. The Hasbro Hulks aren't released at the basic figure price points, so they've always been the same price or more expensive than this select.

  • @aFoxyFox.

It isn't necessarily meaning, or the way I interpret it anyway, that they are literally more expensive (but they perhaps had been in the past), but possibly that they look fancier and higher quality? I took it to mean that they at the very least are fancier looking because they look like fancy painted and sculpted statues, but are now roughly the same price or even less than some of the Hasbro figures which very many times look totally cheap and garbagy sometimes.

ASD I am a DST MS collector & I too feel the same as you. The MS looks like the bigger brother to the ML. I do not consider the MS an alternative to the ML at all, in fact they both earned their respective places on the shelf with their work. I find the details in the MS better and the paint applications are over the moon when it is compared to a MS character of the same.

@@aFoxyFox. Good perspective. DST MS might scare off some consumers as some of DST products look more artistic in detail in comparison. However, I have never encountered an issue paying more for a DST then a Hasbro in Canada. They went for about the same price but now Hasbro has gained the lead. I have been replacing certain ML figures with the MS versions (Magneto, Sandman, Jugs, Rhino, and Abomination) and so far there has only been two real disappointments (Elektra and Cap Mar'Vel) that were unpassable statues. Still, the accessories make the DST MS worth the money. The MS Silver Centurion or the Human Torch are perfect examples of this. And if you don't care about accessories, the Titanium Man.

Their re-runs used to be way further between than they seem to be now. That's why the secondary market price on a few of the selects were and in some cases still are, nuts. I haven't checked lately, but to name a few that were really high - Lizard, Rhino & the Destroyer. As far as Neca creating artificial scarcity, I can't tell if they're actually doing that or if they're just a smaller company. I feel like they're leaving a ton of money on the table by not reissuing or producing more of a lot of their TMNT figures if it's just an issue of them purposely limiting production. I don't believe they own their own factory like Hasbro does though, so I'm less inclined to believe they're actually doing this. Would like to read about it if you have evidence to the contrary though, might change my opinion of them.

I love comparing the Marvel Legends big guys to the Diamond Select ones. Hulk, Thanos, Juggernaut, and Colossus are some that I have doubles of and I can't decide which one I like over the other. You're absolutely right when saying that there are certain qualities that one will have that the other does not. I know what you mean, bro. it's like the price point is the price point for figures in the line. they just average them all out. they don't break down the weight to the gram and then adjust it by the penny. they average it out across their lines. so they don't go insane. a character who's supposed to be larger is going to use more plastic. a person would probably skip a wolverine toy because he has 25 of them already, not because he uses less plastic, right? I don't know. I love all of it and all of you, I'm just trying to say I know what you mean about that, @fiama98 😅

The waist does twist, but you need to put quite a bit of muscle into it. Frankly, twisting him at the diaphragm is much easier and is more natural. Speaking of articulation, the 80th Hulk can't turn at the diaphragm and the Select also has the McFarlane-style hip swivel. Both have points of articulation/range of motion that the other lacks. Honestly, he replaced my 80th Hulk as soon as I got him over a year ago. For me, it wasn't even much of a dilemma.
