you could drown in this music... probably | Vocal Coach Reaction/Analysis EIVOR "Falling Free"

Ойын-сауық

Welcome to today's video breaking down the incredible voice of Eivor in her performance of Falling Free. The storytelling in this song vocally as well as enough musical layers to drown in truly seal the deal on this musical experience. It's hard to tell whether the musical experience or the at times otherworldly vocal choices of Eivor is my favourite part.
If you enjoyed this video please like, sub and hit the bell (if you want to).

This is not my first time listening to Eivor but it is my first time hearing her voice in this song. For those of you who like to feel things building as they listen to music this is the song for you. Fans of M83, Aurora and Florence and the Machine will enjoy this... maybe... probably. Let me know in the comments if you did.

Love how the synth is like an ocean of sound on a dark night, the drums are like distant thunderclaps, and her voice is like a bird flying through the stormy skies, this moment gliding on the currents, and the next moment beating with its wings to cut through the winds with power.[

The "yodel" you hear is Joik :) A way of singing among the samis. It is fantastic to hear. In the Swedish talent show Talang (swedish for talent, our "got talent" show) we had a guy called Jon Henrik Fjällgren that performed a joik called Daniels Jojk. It is a joik that came to him while sitting outside his friend Daniels cabin mourning his death. Soooo emotional, you should check it out! WARNING! Tears may show up during that

The "singing" around the 13 minute mark is, or sound a lot like something that we used to do in Scandinavia, to translate it it will be called " Cow Calling " So when the cows had been grassing in the hills and mountains and it was time to return a girl from the farm or village would go out and sing this " Cow Calling ".. and there are YT videos about it, and its really haunting and pretty to listen to. And yes it is actually a real thing.

Great analysis really insightful - the vocalizations seems to be a Faroese folk thing (at least she’s from there and uses it sometimes) but to me it’s very reminiscent of Native American (or First Nations in Canada) vocalizations. I think the vocalizations which you have in mind are those which remind of the traditional chanting of the Sami people (who live scattered among the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia) which is called Joik (and has already been mentioned by several people in the comments) it is indeed very reminiscent of Native American vocalizations. I've already mentioned the Norwegian singer Mari Boine and two of her songs in my post a few comments below. Fun fact (since you mentioned the First Nations in Canada): Mari Boine has done a cover version of the song "Eagle Man/Changing Woman" by the Canadian singer Buffy Sainte-Marie. Here's a live-version of this cover from 2004 (video quality is poor, but the sound is good): kzread.info/dash/bejne/hZ5_p85vcsXHiqw.html

we all need to hear and appreciate the tremendous talent of performers in the "world music" genre....Eivor is one of those talents....do yourself a BIG favor and see any of her many performances of her song "Trollabundin", which she sings in her native Faroese....

The begining was great in singing but a little flat on the music for me. Then when instruments started coming in it got interesting and near the end it exploded sooooo good. I'm glad I stayed for it.

agree with you.. Wake me up // RTT, which is basically a build-up song as well with a grand finale is highly recommended. It is just way better in every aspect! You will hear a voice range guaranteed never heard before!

I see what you mean it seems like it was the same refrain over and over for a while, but part of that may have been because Julia kept pausing the video to make her analysis. Not that I’m blaming her. I loved it the whole time though.

Eivor is such a talented woman. I saw her live in the Heilung's concert first part. She was amazing! Btw, you still never reacted to any Heilung song.... i really wonder what you are waiting for, especially now that they are on tour in Australia... Maybe you are not ready for this new journey. Maybe... still, enjoying following you and your share of knowledge.
