@@BOOGiNS awards don't mean nothing really. He was in five movies and all of them were up for Best picture so don't tell me he wasn't a coveted actor. That's your opinion he's a great actor in my view . John Holland Cazale (/kəˈzæl/; August 12, 1935 - March 13, 1978)[2]: 8  was an American actor. He appeared in five films over seven years, all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture: The Godfather (1972), The Conversation (1974), The Godfather Part II (1974), Dog Day Afternoon (1975), and The Deer Hunter (1978), with the two Godfather films and The Deer Hunter winning. Cazale started as a theater actor in New York City, ranging from regional, to off-Broadway, to Broadway acting alongside Al Pacino, Meryl Streep, and Sam Waterston. Cazale soon became one of Hollywood's premier character actors, starting with his role as the doomed, weak-minded Fredo Corleone opposite longtime friend Al Pacino in Francis Ford Coppola's film The Godfather, and its 1974 sequel. John went on to star in Sidney Lumet's Dog Day Afternoon. Cazale chose to continue acting despite having been diagnosed with lung cancer. He died in New York City on March 13, 1978, shortly after completing his role in The Deer Hunter.

19:10 Earlier Freddo acted like he didn't know Johny Ola (who had called him to set up Michael). The reason Michael looks at his brother with a 1000-yard stare is because Freddo slips and reveals he's already talked with Johny Ola and he had acted like he'd just met him when Michael introduced him. So from that point on he knew his brother betrayed him.

Frankie killed himself, slitting his wrists in the bathtub. It was foreshadowed in the last conversation he had with Tom. "They went home and sat in a hot bath and opened their veins, and bled to death. Sometimes they gave a little party before they did it." By committing suicide rather than have Michael exact punishment, Frankie made sure his family was protected.

Michael was quick when the shooting started because his marine training kicked in. Remember, he was in WW2 and fought in the Pacific. It never left him. Vito had two big advantages that Michael didn't get. One, Vito had no family. This means he had no Fredo to deal with. Everyone close to Vito was chosen by him and loyal to him. Vito also married a Sicilian woman. She shares the culture, she knows her role in his life. Michael inherited everything. None of those people, except late additions like Al Neri, were chosen by him. People like Clemenza and Tessio were personally loyal to Vito, they only accepted Michael as the leader. Finally, Michael married an American woman. Kay is not from that culture and couldn't be expected to be supportive. Back when we first saw her, Michael was not part of the family business, so they made sense as a couple. Michael made the mistake of marrying her after his life changed. This is why I believe Michael was serious about wanting to turn the family legitimate. He married Kay with the expectation that the criminal life would be over before his marriage started to suffer.

Vitto had less advantages than Michael. They are criminals their associates even the allegedly loyal ones could turn their coats at anytime. Vitto preferred to be loved Michael was feared. Vitto's priority is family. Michael was business. Carlo, Connies husband. Vitto never trusted him and he knew carlo was part of the set up with sonny plus he was beating Connie but Vitto never killed him. He didnt want his daughter to be a widow and his grandkids fatherless. Fredo was there when he was shot and he never raised his hand to him even to chastise him for not calling for bodygards or breaking down and not calling for help after being shot 5 times Michael had Carlo killed the day of his nephews baptism. And in fairness Kay stuck it longer than most American women. She was almost assassinated while pregnant with her 3rd child, 7 years into their marriage. 7 years after Michael's promise to go legitimate. This along with the murder of Fredo was more than Kay could take. She married the ghost of the man she met. He married his 2nd choice after his first wife. Kay was a reminder of what he could have had outside the family. BOTH women were wring for him. ANY woman would gave suffered married to the man Michael became. A monster

Sonny had his devotion to his friends and family and Fredo had his tender and supportive side. Michael inherited his father’s intelligence and ruthlessness but without the other two qualities to balance him out eventually leads to his downfall.

The reason why he lost was because of his boycott for the original Godfather. He felt he should've been nominated for Best Actor instead of Best Supporting Actor. Unfortanately that cost him because at that time he was not looked at as the Legend he would become & Hollywood was gonna humble him which they did by not letting him win until his 8th nomination. Also my 3rd favorite performance was James Caan. 4th would be De niro

They didn't show any scenes of their relationship since their faux reconciliation at Mama Corleones funeral but I would have thought Michael did not really speak to him and because Fredo was becoming close to Michaels son that might have been the last straw. Like I say it's just speculation but for me Fredo was smart enough to know that he might be killed as the family kept their friends close but their enemies closer. A cop walked into the place and stopped it right before he died. One of the guys who was in on it was Carmine Persico. He was the head of the Colombo family from the 80s all the way up until 2019 when he died in prison. Carmine became known as the snake because he was a friend with the Gallos and set up the meeting. In the movie they even name one of the fictional characters Carmine. When he's yelling and telling him not to do it in his spot. Just wanna point something out that might make the Vito killing more amusing. The man named Don Fanucci (guy in the white coat) wasn't that powerful, nor was he a real Don. He was actually a fraud posing as one who played his role accordingly. Vito noticed it fairly quick. He threatened people by his own hand, and would muscle fairly weaker folks to do business with him. That trade of money was the last indicator, if Fanucci was a real Don, he would have slapped Vito around to get *all* the money. Instead he takes what he was given and gives him a nice approach. Reminder in the beginning he saw what a Don could do. Vito kills Fanucci, supposedly one of the wealthier guys in Little Italy...in a small apartment where he lived, mostly to rid of a man who will be more of an annoyance. A pest out of Little Italy.

Great reaction. Godfather 2 is my personal favorite! There's so many layers to uncover in this sequel! You can watch it over and over again and see things you may have missed on the first watch. I'm surprised you didn't see Fredo's death coming. Did you notice Michael's eyes towards his bodyguard to signal to kill his brother while Michael was giving Fredo a hug? I feel with The Godfather 2 with Michael you have to read between the lines especially with Hymn Roth who was a great adversary! It felt like I was watching a Chess Match between Michael and Hymn trying to outmaneuver each other! And Vito's background story makes this film even more of a Masterpiece! I feel you should definitely watch The Godfather Part 3 even though it is not as good as the 1st and 2nd one. The 3rd Godfather still has a interesting ending! Pay close attention to Connie in Godfather 3 you could tell she spent too much time with her brother Michael! 🤣 Enjoy!

Coppola talks about Vito being like a king with three sons: each inherited part of his personality. Sonny has his emotionality and protectiveness of his family. Fredo has his love and caring for others. Michael has his ruthlessness and cunning. Unfortunately Michael was missing the parts his brothers inherited, he was cold and distant, even to those closest to him… And that’s why we see him alone and miserable at the end, even in victory.

Yeah, he never was groomed into the successor position for the family. His time spent overseas in the war likely snuffed the majority of his compassion out of him, so he continued his soldiering on when he took up the reigns of the family. That mindset kept him attacking the perceived threats around him rather than trying to garner deals of mutual interest like his father did.

25:11 this part of the movie references something that would have happened about 15 or 20 years earlier in real life so most audiences back then would remember it; the congressional hearings where Kennedy got Joe Valachi of the Genovese crime family to break the mafia’s code of silence. Same thing kinda goes with the Cuba stuff. Under the oversight of Meyer Lansky (whom Hyman Roth was based on) the mafia made deep inroads into the Cuban government under Batista.

Afterwards, everyone clearly knew Vito had killed him, but there was no retribution. Also, I'm not sure how much closer you can get than Michael killing Solozzo and the police captain. After the Senate hearing, Tom visits Frank in custody. Hagen tells Frank that he did the right thing by recanting. Tom and Pentangeli talk nostalgically about the good old days when the Corleone Family, as Pentangeli says, "was like the Roman Empire." Hagen tells a story about what would happen to traitors during those Roman days, implying that the correct thing for Pentangeli to do now is to kill himself. Hagen tells Pentangeli if he accepts responsibility for turning on the Corleone family and kills himself, Frank's family will always be taken care of, just as the families of confessed traitors in the Roman days who killed themselves were allowed to keep all of their possessions. He thanks Hagen, returns to his assigned quarters, and despite the presence in the other room of his federal guards, commits suicide by slitting his wrists while taking a bath.

@Matejko108 Micheal Corleone aged and lost interest, especially after being alone on top of things for a long time. His priorities changed. This was the final act of the character's development. • @alaooooy7

    @alaooooy7

    Жыл бұрын

@Matejko108 It's a matter of opinion. Believe it or not, there are people that don't even like the first two! What Micheal did in the first two was motivated by him trying to keep his family strong. Losing his father, his mother, Tom and what he did to Fredo over that long period of time with growing older without his wife or his kids changed everything. Not to mention his serious attempts to actually make the family's business legit. He's stuck between doing what's right for a gang and what could help him go legit. He's stuck between what would protect his power and what would protect his family and bring them together. All while heavy bearing of his past and what he did to Fredo being that dark cloud over his head. He's getting older, his health is getting worse. It makes sense on the human level and it's a logical downfall. The fact that people don't like seeing the downfall part affects how they see it. Just like many people don't enjoy watching the final third of Scarface and Goodfellas. This whole film was the third part of The Godfather. And the fact that not every actor is perfect for his role as they were in the first 2 parts makes it far from perfect but for me it's still great. Had they cast Chazz Palminteri to play Joey Zaza and an actual good actress to play Mary that would've changed a lot!

The first time I saw the two Godfather movies (probably mid 80s on Dutch tv), it was actually (a re-release, and if I'm right from 1977) as a tv-mini-series, with the first two movies told in chronological order. So it starts in Sicily, just like part 2 starts, and from then on, it follows Vito's (De Niro) story, and then it goes back to the first movie, with the older Vito (Brando) , and from then on, to Michael with part 1 & 2....for me it had a more emotional impact, seeing Vito's whole story, and then when he dies as a old men in the Orange garden (that was heartbreaking), and Michael taking over the family business...it was called ''The Godfather Epic: 1901-1959'' and it runs 7 hrs 3 min. and has also many cut scenes included, like Michael killing the traitor /bodyguard who murdered his first wife by a car bomb. Greeting from The Netherlands.

Johnny Ola had called Fredo to get info on the meeting in Cuba so you should have picked up that Fredo had betrayed his brother way before that classic scene. They didn't get Frank, he killed himself after he got assurance from Tom that his family would be looked after once he was dead. That was what their conversation was about. Frank didn't get cold feet when he was testifying. He saw they had his brother and he sacrificed his freedom to save him.

It was DeNiro’s mimicking of Marlon Brando’s speech patterns and mannerisms, that perfectly sold that character, provided an essential link to G1, and earned DeNiro his well-deserved first Oscar, just as Brando won for portraying the same character. Great reaction, as usual. 👍

By the way, the moment Kay tells Micheal that she had an abortion is, I think, one of the best performances from an actor I've ever seen, and I mean Al Pacino's performance just with his eyes. Some scene that were in it include: Michael finally tracking down the man who killed his first off and offing him with a car bomb, Vito killing 2 more men responsible for killing his family (one of em with a funny way of him wacking a guy with a paddle literally), Michael waking up after his first wife was killed having that look on his face showing he had lost some humanity and wanted revenge, Sonny telling his mom that Vito was shot and her being like “Oh. What's great about this movie is how it shows the similarities and differences of Vito and Michael as dons: Vito finds value in cooperation, so he tries to make friends so everyone benefits. It's an approach that gets him loyalty through love, but he's not soft: if you double cross him or reject his friendship, he will not hesitant to end you, and by making that clear, he also got loyalty through fear. Michael on the hand, doesn't care to make friends but to make business partners, cold and transactional, so he has precious few people loyal to him out love, which makes him more vulnerable than his father. However, just like Vito, Michael is happy to meet betrayal with death, and the patience to enact a slow-burn plan to get there (which is why he was better suited for opposed to implusive Sonny). Michael rules solely by fear, which is effective, but damaging to the family in the long run.
